Boys State Wrestling Tournament Results for Friday, February 17th
Four of our area wrestlers remained when Friday rolled around with East Sac’s Bradyn Burns and Charlie Veit and Carroll’s Dreylen Schweitzer and Cooper Ludwig wrestling for a spot on the podium. All four wrestlers had to win their first match of the day in order to advance to the fifth round of consolations and have a chance to be on the podium.
Both Brayden Burns and Charlie Veit saw their seasons come to an end after great runs in their consolations brackets. Burns went up against the #7 wrestler at 120 pounds Jaxon Larson of Don Bosco. Burns was pinned in 54 seconds in the fourth round of consolations to end his season. Charlie Veit at 138 pounds faired a bit better in his fourth-round consolation match against Cael Bridgewater of North Linn. Veit got some shots in, but he too lost via decision 7-2, completing his season.
Carroll went 1-1 in their fourth-round consolation matches. Cooper Ludwig competed against the #6 wrestler at 145 pounds Celeb Olson of Union-LePort City but ran into a brick wall where he lost via fall at 3:16, ending his time at the state tournament. Dreleyn Schweitzer continued his fantastic run in the consolation bracket with two wins to keep his tournament hopes alive. He stayed ahead long enough against Jonah Luensman of Monticello to win via decision 4-2, giving him a guaranteed spot on the podium Saturday. He followed that up with another great performance in the fifth round of consolations. He went up against Ryan Bahnson of West Lyon and again, he had to battle all three rounds to end up with a 5-1 decision to guarantee him at least a sixth-place finish. Schweitzer will compete for a chance to wrestle for third place when he takes on Kaden Weber of Nevada Jr (29-1) Saturday morning.
