Boys State Wrestling Results for Thursday, February 16th
Day two of the boy’s state wrestling tournament has concluded and we have four of our area wrestlers moving on to Friday’s fourth-round consultation round.
South Central Calhoun, Kuemper, and Coon Rapids Bayard all saw their wrestlers lose today, ending their seasons. Raiden Doty had the number two wrestler at 182 pounds in MaKade Bloker of North Butler-Clarksville where Doty was defeated via fall at 1:15. South Central Calhoun’s Brock Nattress got Conor Cassidy of Martensdale St. Mary’s in the second round consolations where Nattress lost via major decision 11-1, ending his season.
All four of Kuemper’s wrestlers ended up losing but two got to the third round of consolations. Caleb Hoffman got past Codder Malcom of Wapello via fall at 4:51 but lost to Kalab Kuhl of LoMa in the third-round consolations ending his season. Riley Parkis ended his time at the state tournament going 1-2 in matches he wrestled, beating Hunter Wernli of North Mahaska via a 10-3 decision in the second round of consolations, but later losing to Steve Brandenburg of Lake Mills via a 4-0 decision. Will Healy and Owen Nepple both lost in the second-round consolations.
East Sac and Carroll were the only two schools to see wrestlers advance to Friday’s fourth-round consolations. Both of the Raiders’ wrestlers, Bradyn Burns and Charlie Veit, will compete Friday for a chance at a podium spot. Burns has been on a roll in the consolations, defeating Ruger Kincaid of Baxter in the second-round consolations, and later picking up a fall victory over Josh Winey of Earlham at the 3:41 mark. Veit picked up a fall victory late against Jack Peiffer of Highland Riverside at the 5:30 mark and later in the third-round consolations, he went the distance and beat Ben Holton of Hudson via a 7-3 decision.
For the Carroll Tigers, Cooper Ludwig and Dreylen Schweitzer were able to advance to Friday’s next round of consolations. Ludwig picked up the quick 33-second fall victory over Jacob Youngbear of South Tama County and later went into overtime with Christ Aragon of Creston but won via sudden victory. For Schweitzer, he too won via sudden victory in the second round consolations and got past Gabino Vargas of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley holding on to a 5-4 decision to advance to Friday’s fourth round consolation. Cael Nelson, Jireh Gallegos, and Colton Wieland all made it to the third round of consolations while Owen Klocke ended his season in the second round of consolations.
Ludwig, Schweitzer, Burns, and Veit will have to one at least their first match tomorrow in the fourth round of consolations in order to wrestle for a top-eight spot in their weight class.
