Girls State Wrestling Results Thursday, February 2nd- Session 1 and Session 2
History was set on Thursday as the fist ever sanctioned Girls State Wrestling Tournament was held in Coralville. Four area schools were represented with twelve girls wrestling. Evelyn Kramer of South Central Calhoun reached the quarterfinals and will wrestle again Friday in the 4th wrestleback. Julia Kanne of Carroll High reached the second round and will wrestle on Friday in the 4th wrestleback. The rest of the girls wrestled well but finished their seasons on Thursday. Carroll had five wrestlers compete on Thursday, combining to go 4-9 with all four wins by fall. South Central Calhoun competed with four wrestlers, finishing the day 4-7 with 3 wins by fall and a decision. Kuemper had Grace Hoffman who went 2-2 with both wins by fall. Evelyn Kramer went 2-1 for South Central Calhoun at 120 pounds. She won her first two matches, winning 12-9 in the opening round, then winning by fall in round 2. She lost in the quarterfinals by fall and will face Lexa Rozevink of Ames on Friday in the 4th wrestleback. If she wins she will advance to the medal rounds. Julia Kanne is also one win away from the medal rounds. Kanne won her opening round by fall, then fell in round 2, before winning back-to-back matches in the consolation brackets, including a win by fall over Grace Hoffman of Kuemper to advance to the 4th wrestleback against Maya Humlicek of Lewis Central.
Kourtney King of South Central Calhoun finished the tournament 1-2 with her win by fall. Delanie Westcott won her opening round match for the Titans, finishing the day 1-2 with a win by fall. Iris Melody went 0-2. Emma Daniels of Carroll High finished the day going 1-2 with a win by fall. Brianna Kiger, Averi Burke and Kloee Jones of Carroll High all finished 0-2. Grace Hoffman of Kuemper was 2-2 with both wins by fall on the consolation side. Olivya Mack and Olivia Villegas of East Sac both went 1-2 winning their first match on the consolation side by fall.
