Lewis Central At Kuemper

Lewis Central was able to out-physical the Kuemper Knights Friday as the Titans came away with a big conference win.

In the first quarter, the Titans were able to get ahead by a score of 8-0 before the Knights were able to finally break through with a made free throw. Lewis Central was able to keep the momentum on their side and stay ahead 11-7. Tregan Beiter had a solid first quarter to get the Knights back in the game with four points. The Titans started to find their way into the paint and got plenty of points in transition. Taye Vonnahme was able to spark the Kuemper defense as they put up plenty of three-points attempts, but were only able to make one. The Titans put up 20 points and were up 31-19 at halftime. Kuemper Head Coach Sean Minnehan said in the post game that Lewis Central implemented a similar look to what Harlan did in that they took away their scorers and tied up the baseline to limit what Kuemper could do offensively.

Kuemper had a bit of a momentum change in the second half with the whole team stepping up to the plate. They cut down the Lewis Central lead down to 10 points but still had a mountain to climb down 43-33 with the final quarter upon them. Kuemper’s woes from long range continued as they had to throw up three-pointers to try to stay in the game. Lewis Central was in foul trouble for a large part of the game, but they cut down their fouls in the second half and started to pick apart the Kuemper defense. They’d eventually go 17-9 in the fourth quarter to end up with a 60-42 win.

Tregan Beiter ended up leading the Knights with 10 points while Carter Putney ended up with a team high six rebounds. They fell to 13-5 overall on the season and 7-2 in the Hawkeye 10. Kuemper is back in action on Tuesday, January 31st when they host Harlan.
