The game went back and forth in the 1st quarter but came down to which team made a run last. IKM-Manning used a 15-3 run in the 1st half to lead 25-12 late in the half. LoMa answered with a 17-3 run in the 2nd half to tie the game at 34 early in the 4th quarter. IKM-Manning had the last laugh, using a 17-0 run to end the game, to win for the fifth time in their last six games. IKM-Manning got nice contributions from everyone that played, finishing with three guys in double figures. The defense played well, picking up 11 steals and locking down on the Panthers shooters in the 4th quarter. Their full court pressure helped control the tempo, allowing them to get out and run at times but slow the game down and work in  the halfcourt set when they needed to. The Wolves hit a couple early threes, then knocked down a several in the 4th quarter, finishing with eight made threes.

LoMa scored first, taking a 2-0 lead, but Ben Ramsey nailed a three, putting the Wolves on top 3-2. After a Panther three, Ross Kusel hit the first of his five, putting the Wolves back up 6-5. LoMa went back up 7-6 and led 9-6 before Caden Keller hit back-to-back baskets to give IKM-Manning the lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Ben Ramsey made it 12-9 early in the 2nd quarter and Keller extended it to 14 and 16-9. A Lane Sams basket put the Wolves up 18-9. Ben Ramsey gave them their first double digit lead, up 23-12. Eli Dreyer made it 25-12 late in the 1st half. Wes Vana knocked down a three for LoMa and they Wolves lead was 25-15 at half.

Ross Kusel extended the lead to 28-17, then hit another three to put the Wolves up 31-17 early in  the 3rd. Reed Hinners hit the three for the Wolves only points until the 4th quarter as LoMa started knocking down threes, including banking in a shot from the baseline. They pulled within 31-26 at the end of the 3rd, outscoring the Wolves 11-6. LoMa kept the pressure up to start the 4th quarter, tying the game at 34 with a chance to take the lead but they missed a free throw and IKM-Manning took control after that. Ross Kusel hit a three to put the Wolves up 37-34, Eli Dreyer and Caden Keller added baskets before Kusel  hit another 3, making it 44-34. Eli Dreyer put the Wolves up 46-34 with a pair of free throws and IKM-Manning was able to salt the game away at the line. The first free throw attempt of the game came at the 51.8 second mark of the 4th quarter. IKM-Manning finished 7-8 while LoMa went 0-1.

Ross Kusel had a team high 17 points and 4 steals for the Wolves, Caden Keller added 12 points and just missed a double-double with 9 rebounds. Ben Ramsey scored 10 points, all coming in the 1st half. Reed Hinners was huge on the boards, finishing with 10 rebounds. Eli Dreyer added 7 points off the bench.

The win improves IKM-Manning to 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the Western Iowa Conference. The Wolves head to Riverside on Friday.

The Raiders had chances in the 1st and 3rd quarters but weren’t able to capitalize and weren’t able to battle back, falling at home. East Sac and Cherokee had a number of turnovers in the 1st quarter and were tied at 18 heading to the 2nd quarter. The Raiders missed a few opportunities to score on Braves mistakes in the 1st quarter and it came back to haunt them in the 2nd quarter. They struggled on both ends of the floor, getting outscored 21-10 to trail by 11 at half.

East Sac stole the ball on the Braves first-four possessions of the 3rd quarter, but again missed some opportunities to score, but still pulled within 49-43 thanks to a pair of threes from Sam Julin on some nice passes by Brody Boeckman. The Raiders took the lead in the 4th, thanks to a 10-0 run to start the quarter. A few missed opportunities and a few turnovers kept the Raiders from extending the lead. Cherokee took advantage of a few defensive breakdowns and went up 59-57 with 2:00 left. East Sac was not able to regain their rhythm and fell at home.

Luke Wright paced the Raiders with 17 points to go with 7 rebounds, Ryan Clair added 12 points and 6 rebounds. Caleb Eichorn scored 8 points while Aden Vondrak dished out 7 assists and made 8 steals.

The Raiders fall to 2-7 overall. They head to Storm Lake St Mary’s on Friday.
