The Carroll Tigers had a chance to capture the lead against ADM in the fourth quarter down only two points, but ADM was able to edge out Carroll in the end. 

Carroll was coming off a huge 68-66 win over Carlisle last week and won two straight while ADM lost to Winterset 62-50 after winning three straight games. ADM found ways to Contain Carroll, and more specifically, Evan Hammer and Bryce Berlau who both had double digit points against Carlisle. ADM got out ahead 13-4 going into the fourth quarter. Carroll’s slow start got a bit better as they’d put up 11 points in the second quarter but were still down 20-15 at halftime. Trey Hunter was the only Carroll player who ended the game in double digits for points with 13 points. 

Carroll was able to keep the momentum on their side in the first parts of the second half. They were able to keep ADM at bay while they further cut down the lead to two points at 29-27. ADM was able to break free in the fourth quarter and ended the game with 14 points and the six-point win 43-37. 

Carroll fell to 6-3 overall on the season and 4-3 in the Raccoon River Conference. They conclude their week of action as they travel to take on Gilbert on Friday, January 13th.

In one of the highest scoring games of the season, the South Central Calhoun Titans kept their winning streak alive as they were able to get past Humboldt. Both teams came out from the start with bucket after bucket. Humboldt was able to hold on to a three-point lead at 19-16 heading into the second quarter. The Wildcats kept their pace up, as did the Titans. Both scored nearly 20 points with Humboldt holding on to the lead at 35-31 at halftime. 

The biggest half of the night was saved for the second half as both teams would score a combined 58 points in the third quarter. After the long back and forth, the Titans were finally about to out-do the Wildcats in the quarter at 30-28 but were still down by two points at 63-61. South Central Calhoun’s gas tank was still plenty full heading into the fourth quarter, where they were able to put up an additional 23 points and kept the Wildcats to a mere 10 points as the Titans, down for a majority of the contest, were able to pick up the 84-73 victory. 

Three Titans ended up with more than 20 points scored, that included Eli Wheelock with 22 points, Tyler Lightner with 24 points, and Joe Clark with a team high 28 points. Wheelock and Lightner both led the team with seven rebounds each.

Ar-We-Va at Glidden Ralston

The Ar-We-Va Rockets and the Glidden Ralston Wildcats went the distance Tuesday night as their game went into overtime to determine a winner. 

The Rockets would get down in a rut early against the Wildcats as Glidden Ralston would get up 13-9 in the first quarter, and eventually 27-18 at halftime. Ethan Olberding ended up with a solid game for the Wildcats with 14 points to lead the team. Both teams ended up with three players who put-up double-digit points in this game. 

In the second half, Ar-We-Va was eventually to get a hand up on the Wildcats, only after they went point for point in the third quarter. Both teams ended up with 10 points in the quarter as the Wildcats held on to their lead at 37-28. The Rockets finally got over the hump in the fourth quarter with a 17-point performance to tie the game at 45 points, forcing an overtime. Glidden Ralston had a chance to win it, but the shot didn’t fall. The Rockets kept their momentum up in a low scoring overtime period where they went 8-4 and came away with the 53-49 victory. 

Wyatt Ragaller led the team with 15 points while Emmett Neumann had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Olberding, John Whitver, and Colby Wallace got double digit points with 14 points, 12 points, and 12 points respectively. The Rockets improved to 3-6 overall on the season and 2-5 in the Rolling Valley Conference while Glidden Ralston fell to 2-9 overall and 2-5 in the conference. Up next for both teams, the Rockets will host LoMa on Thursday, January 12th while Glidden Ralston will travel to take on Exira-EHK on Friday, January 13th.

Paton Churdan was able to hold their own up until the fourth quarter as they took on Boyer Valley Tuesday night. 

The Bulldogs came out quickly in the first quarter and got up 12-1. The Rockets closed out the quarter going 5-4 but trailing 16-6. Paton Churdan started to climb out of their deficit with a solid second quarter. They were down 26-18 late in the quarter, but eventually cut down the Bulldogs’ lead to seven points at 29-22 at halftime. Shaydon Thurman has been a great leader on the court as he’d lead the Rockets with 16 points in this game.

In the second half, Boyer Valley started to gain back plenty of ground and kept increasing their lead further. They’d end up with a 49-35 lead going into the fourth quarter. In the final eight minutes, the Bulldogs had added 24 final points to their lead to come away with a 73-45 win. 

Two more Rockets had double digit point performances, those being Cayden Stream with 10 points and Phoenix Hartman with 12 points. Paton Churdan wraps their week of competition with a road game against Coon Rapids Bayard.

Underwood at IKM-Manning

The IKM-Manning Wolves had a back-and-forth battle with Underwood Tuesday night before the Eagles took over in the second half. 

The Wolves have been on a roll recently, with a four-game winning streak on the line dating back to December 16th while Underwood recently fell to Treynor 51-44, only their second loss of the season. It was all IKM-Manning in the first quarter as they got out ahead 24-11. Underwood flipped the script in the second quarter as they’d go 25-11 in the quarter to gain the slight one-point advantage at 36-35 at halftime. The Wolves have had a few leaders on the floor this season, but in this game, it was Ross Kusel who nearly ended up with 20 points for the Wolves. 

The second half eventually ended up in the hands of Underwood. The Wolves battled hard in the third quarter but were outscored 16-12 as the Eagles took the 52-47 lead into the fourth quarter. It was all Underwood in the final eight minutes of the contest, with 21 points added to their total with the Eagles eventually coming away with the 73-57 win. Underwood sank 11 three-pointers as a team. 

Kusel ended up with 19 points for the Wolves with Ben Ramsey and Reed Hinners scoring double digit points with 10 and 12 points respectively. The Wolves fell 6-4 overall on the season and 4-3 in the Western Iowa Conference. They are back in action on Friday, January 13th when they travel to take on Riverside.
