Makenna Steiger had one of her biggest nights of the season as she led the East Sac Raiders to their first win of the season over GTRA Monday night.
The Raiders were chasing their first win of the season after a rocky start to the season while the GTRA Titans were seeing similar issues at 3-6 on the season and 1-3 in the conference. The Raiders got off to a good start in the first quarter with GTRA hanging on by a thread with East Sac leading 11-9. The Raiders from that point on didn’t let the Titans get close to their lead as Steiger and her offense went off. They were able to put up a game high 19 points in the second quarter to lead 29-19 at halftime. Steiger’s night included a team high 22 points for the Raiders and three assists.
In the second half, it was all East Sac up until the final buzzer went off. They would put up 32 points in total with GTRA mustering up 17 points in the half. The Raiders picked up their first win of the season in convincing fashion with a final score of 62-36. Other stats for the Raiders include Sarah Bontrager who had nine points and four assists off the bench and Kendall Quirk who had eight points and six rebounds. The Raiders are now 1-8 overall on the season and 1-3 in the Twin Lakes Conference.
They are in action again on Tuesday, January 10th when they travel to take on Denison Schleswig.

Audubon at Missouri Valley

The Audubon Wheelers were able to their first win of the season as they got past Western Iowa Conference foe Missouri Valley. Three Wheelers put-up double-digit points, being Madison Steckler who had 13 points and Audrey Jensen and Sienna Albertsen who both had 15 points. Audubon was able to win by eight points at 50-42. No box score was available for this game.
The Wheelers improve to 1-9 overall on the season and 1-6 in the Western Iowa Conference. They are at home on Friday, January 13th when they host Tri-Center.

The Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders stumbled out of the gate against #6 Woodbine Monday night, but they had a great rest of the game that showed they can hang with the best in Class 1A.
The Tigers came in as the sixth ranked team in class 1A with a 9-0 record, while Coon Rapids Bayard is 1-1 since resuming play after the holiday break. In the first quarter, Woodbine showed why they are in the rankings with a strong 14-4 performance. Coon Rapids Bayard bounced back in fantastic fashion by going shot for shot with the Tigers and putting up 18. Despite that performance, the Crusaders still found themselves down 35-22 at halftime. Breeley Clayburg continues to be a focal point for the Crusaders game in the paint as she got herself another double double with 14 points and 12 rebounds along with three steals.
In the second half, Coon Rapids Bayard continued to try for a late game comeback with a solid third quarter. They were finally able to outdo Woodbine with a 11-9 quarter, but were still in a rut, down by 11 at 44-33. The final quarter wasn’t filled with much scoring by either team as Woodbine used their strong first quarter performance to carry them to a 51-42 win over Coon Rapids Bayard.
Another solid performance from the Crusaders included Anna Hart who had 11 points and three steals. The Crusaders will fall to 5-5 overall on the season and 3-4 in the Rolling Valley Conference.

The Paton Churdan Rockets were unable to pull out the win against Manson NW Webster Monday night.
The Cougars got up quickly in the first quarter with a 23-10 lead over the Rockets. Manson NW Webster would eventually get up 35-18 lead at halftime. Becca Anderson continues to be an anchor for the Rockets’ offense with 10 points in this game. The Rockets saw struggles in the second half but made up for it in the fourth quarter outscoring the Cougars 15-12. Manson NW Webster would go home with the 68-24 win.
The Rockets are back in conference action Tuesday night when they host Boyer Valley.
