Atlantic pulled away in the 4th quarter as Kuemper struggled to get shots to fall over the final three quarters after leading into the3rd quarter. Atlantic answered with a pair of free throws, then the next three baskets changed the lead with Karsyn Overmohle giving the Knights an 8-6 lead late in the quarter. The Ar-We-Va Rockets extended their winning streak to four games as they downed another Rolling Valley Conference team in Boyer Valley Friday night.
The Rockets were less than 24 hours removed from their big win over Audubon where Delaney Schurke hit the buzzer beater to win it while the Bulldogs have been on a lengthy losing streak. Ar-We-Va’s first quarter performance would end up being the most important one as they doubled the score of Boyer Valley at 12-6 as the game remained competitive until the end. The Bulldogs had a better second quarter outcome, outscoring the Rockets 11-10, but still trailing 22-17 at halftime. Maggie Ragaller had 22 points for the Rockets in their game against Audubon, and she played another pivotal role offensively with 17 points total in the game.
In the second half, Boyer Valley continued to chip away at the Rockets’ lead by outscoring the Rockets again 17-15 in the third quarter and only trailed by three points at 37-34. Ar-We-Va at one point in the third quarter led by as much as 10 points before Boyer Valley came back. In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs were able to capture the lead with one minute left, leaving the Rockets to scramble to score. They would eventually get that score when Amber Ragaller hit two clutch three pointers to get the Rockets within one point and eventually the lead. Emmetsburg at East Sac
Emmetsburg 40
East Sac 27
The East Sac Raiders played with a bunch more intensity against Emmetsburg, but they were unable to take care of the basketball Friday night.
The Raiders were able to hang fairly well with the E-Hawks who are competing with South Central Calhoun and Newell Fonda for a Twin Lakes crown. The Raiders were only down two points at 9-7 after the first quarter concluded. The E-Hawks had a bit better scoring in the second quarter, but not by much as they led by six at 19-13 at halftime. Mary Bontrager continues to solid senior leader on the floor as she had 13 points and six rebounds for the Raiders in this game.
In the second half, Emmetsburg started to inch further and further away from the Raiders. They’d keep East Sac to only five points in the third quarter and put up another double-digit score with 13 to lead 32-18 going into the fourth quarter. The third quarter push from the E-Hawk was enough to allow them to pull away with the 40-27 win over East Sac. Despite not seeing the outcome they wanted, East Sac Head Coach Jason Phillips says his team played with a lot more intensity, they just couldn’t score against the E-Hawks. The Raiders travel to Carroll on Saturday, January 7th to take on the Kuemper Knights. Jeff Blankman will be broadcasting that game on Kick 106.7 beginning around 3:45.
