Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Kuemper and Ar-We-Va Win, Glidden Ralston Falls on Saturday

Kuemper won their 2nd straight game and did it in dominant fashion, using pressure defense, creating 19 steals and turning Greene County mistakes into shots in the lane. The Knights jumped out early, leading 10-0 and 19-2 at the end of the 1st quarter. They didn’t let up in the 2nd quarter, continuing to drive the lane and attack the rim and led 42-6 at half. Coach Klenk was able to clear the bench in the bench in the 2nd half, and the Knights pitched a shut-out.

Kuemper created numerous turnovers with their full-court pressure, getting easy buckets from Elsa Tiefenthaler who scored the first-six points of the game. Lauren Boell hit a three and Kuemper was off and running. Catherine Mayhall made it 10-0 before Greene County scored, pulling within 10-2. Karsyn Overmohle hit a pair of free throws, Lauren Boell scored 6 straight points, putting the Knights up 19-2 at the end of the 1st quarter. Things didn’t change much in the 2nd quarter, with Kuemper getting early points from Catherine Mayhall, Ellie Sibbel and Lauren Boell to lead 37-4. Karsyn Overmohle scored the final points of the half for Kuemper and they led 42-6. With the a continuous clock in the 2nd half, the game moved quickly and Kuemper was able to play everyone. Charlotte Hackfort and Caitlyn Yetmar each hit a three in the 2nd half as the Knights finished 2 of 4 from beyond the arc. Alivia Schenkelberg played well in the 2nd half, pulling down 5 rebounds. Kaylie Diercksen also had a nice 2nd half with 3 rebounds.

Catherine Mayhall led two Knights in double figures with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Lauren Boell added 11 points and Else Tiefenthaler finished with 9 points and 5 steals.

The Knights improved to 4-3 overall and will host Spirit Lake on Monday.

Ar-We-Va got off to a quick start, holding Glidden Ralston to 13-points in the 1st half, building a 28-13 lead at half. They kept the Wildcats from making a run in the 2nd half. The Rockets nabbed their first win of the season, improving to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the Rolling Valley. Glidden Ralston had their four game win streak snapped, falling to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the Rolling Valley Conference.

Maggie Ragaller paced two Rockets in double figures with 23 points and 4 steals. Delaney Schurke added 12 points. Sammy Hinners had 3 blocks and Jamie Hausman finished with 8 points.

Paige Klocke paced the Wildcats with 20 points and Tiela Janssen had 9 points for the Wildcats.

Ar-We-Va hosts West Harrison on Tuesday while Glidden Ralston travels to Woodbine on Tuesday.
