Kuemper found a way to win on a night they didn’t shoot the ball well. The Knights hit 2 of 22 shots from beyond the arc and shot just 29.8% from the field. Their defense played well, holding Red Oak to 19 points in the 1st half and 22 in the 2nd half. They held Red Oak to 3 of 16 from the three point line. The win improves them to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Hawkeye Conference.
Kuemper had their best quarter, starting the game, scoring 16 points. They struggled in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, with 10 and 11 points respectively. They held off Red Oak in the 4th quarter, extending the lead down the stretch. Kuemper hit 12 of 21 from the free throw line.
DJ Vonnahme was huge, finishing with 21 points, 14 rebounds and 5 steals. Michael Kasperbauer shot the ball well, hitting 6 of9 shots inside the arc, finishing with 16 points. Evan Adams helped Kuemper control the boards with 8 rebounds, Dawson Gifford had a big night on defense with 6 steals.
The Knights are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Van Meter.

Glidden Ralston played without two starters but battled hard to pick up their first win of the season, getting solid performances from a number of players and a really good defensive performance in the 1st half. The Wildcats held Boyer Valley scoreless for around 12:00 in the first half. The Bulldogs scored the first- four points of the game, then didn’t score again until there was 1:00 left in the 1st half. Glidden Ralston went on a 17-0 run after falling behind 4-0 to start the game. They led 20-6 at half, extending it to 25-6 early in the 3rd quarter. Boyer Valley trimmed the lead in the 2nd half, getting as close as 12 but the game between 12 and 16 most of the 2nd half.
Waylon Hein got the Wildcats on the board after Boyer Valley scored the first-four points. Jackson Sklenar tied the game at 4 and then Ethan Olberding put the Wildcats ahead 6-4. Emmett Snyder had a nice run in the 2nd quarter, helping the Wildcats extend their lead from 6-4 to 10-4. He scored back-to-back baskets, then Ethan Olberding made it 12-4. Dawson Majerus extended the lead to 14-4 and Jackson Sklenar made it 16-4. A Majerus free throw was the final point of the 17-0 run. Boyer Valley scored with 1:00 left in the 2nd quarter but Emmett Snyder scored again and Glidden Ralston led 20-6 at half.
Emmett Snyder scored a basket and a free throw to start the 2nd half, Ethan Olberding extended the lead to 25-6. Boyer Valley responded with a 7-0 run, pulling within 25-13 before Colby Wallace hit a three to push the lead back to 28-13. The Wildcats didn’t extend the lead in the 2nd half but held Boyer Valley at bay, not allowing them to cut the lead below 12.
Dawson Majerus had a team high 10 points and 6 rebounds. Waylon Hein finished with 10 rebounds and 7 points. Ethan Olberding and Emmett Snyder both finished with 9 points with Snyder adding 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Colby Wallace pulled down 7 rebounds.
The Wildcats improve to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Rolling Valley Conference. The Wildcats head to Paton Churdan on Tuesday.

South Central Calhoun nabbed their third win of the season, improving to 2-0 in the Twin Lakes Conference. They controlled the middle quarters on Friday night, outscoring the GTRA 43-21 in the 2nd and 3rd quarters combined. South Central Calhoun continues to shoot the ball well, hitting 50% from the field with ten-threes. They created 8 steals while holding their turnovers to 11.
South Central Calhoun led by 2 heading into the 2nd quarter before clamping down on defense, holding GTRA to 7 points, extending the lead to 35-23 at half. They blew the game open with a 21-point 3rd quarter, then held on as GTRA tried to rally in the 4th quarter.
The Titans nearly had four players in double figures. Gavin Batta both had 24 points with Batta adding 7 rebounds. Keegan Soard had a huge night with 18 rebounds along with 9 points and 4 steals. Tyler Lightner finished with 13 points and 7 assists.

East Sac battled back in the 2nd quarter only to see the game slip away in the 2nd half. Newell Fonda took charge in the 3rd quarter and outscored the Raiders 53-17 in the 2nd half.
Caleb Eichorn gave East Sac the early lead with 6 quick points. Newell Fonda got rolling midpoint of the 1st quarter, taking the lead with a spurt from three point range and taking advantage of a few Raiders turnovers. The Raiders trailed 26-14 heading into the 2nd quarter and got things rolling. Sam Julin had a big 2nd quarter, scoring 9 points, helping the Raiders score 24-points in the quarter. The defense was really good as well as the Raiders controlled the boards, pulling within 5 at half.
The Raiders came out of the locker room and rushed things in the 3rd quarter, allowing Newell Fonda to open the game up. Their pressure defense forced the Raiders to turn it over or take rushed shots. The Raiders trailed 71-44 heading into the 4th quarter.
Ryan Clair had another double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sam Julin had a team high 13 points. Caleb Eichorn had 12 points, Luke Wright had 10 points and Aden Vondrak dished out 6 assists.
The Raiders fell to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the Twin Lakes Conference. They travel to OA-BCIG on Saturday.

The Wheelers dropped their fifth game to start the season, falling behind in the 1st quarter. After the slow start, they played better on the defensive end in the 2nd quarter, allowing 9 points. The Wheelers trailed by 10 at half. They played well in the 2nd half, scoring in double figures in both quarters. They were outscored 29-23 in the 2nd half.
The loss drops them to 0-5 on the season and 0-3 in the Western Iowa Conference.
Edward Miller had a team high 13 points, Collin Bauer added 9 points and Carson Bauer had 8 points.
They head to Riverside on Tuesday.

A lull in the 2nd and run in the 3rd quarter by the Trojans kept IKM-Manning from picking up a nice road win. The Wolves were sharp in the 1st quarter, scoring 19-points. They didn’t shoot as well in the 2nd quarter, scoring 8-points, falling behind 34-27 at half. The Trojans used a run in the middle part of the 3rd quarter to build the lead into double digits and held the lead around 10-14 points most of the rest of the 2nd half. IKM-Manning scored 8 points in the 2nd quarter and 9 in the 3rd before putting 19 on the board in the 4th quarter.
Ben Ramsey had the best game of his season with 25 points, Ross Kusel added 12 points and 5 rebounds. Caden Keller finished with 9 points and 3 blocks. Eli Dreyer and Cooper Irlmeier had 4 assists each.
IKM-Manning fell to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Western Iowa Conference. They host Exira-EHK on Saturday.
