Girls Basketball Results for Friday, December 9th

Cate Mayhall and the Kuemper Knights snapped a two-game losing streak as they were able to get past Red Oak by 29 points.
The Knights were coming off a 52-41 loss to Denison Schleswig while the Tigers were looking for their first win of the season. The Knights got off to a nice start in the first quarter leading 14-10 heading into the second quarter. The Tigers struggled in the second quarter as the Knights came up with plenty of steals. Mayhall led the team with 10 steals on the night and eventually came away with a double-double with 17 points. Red Oak put up two points total in the second quarter as Kuemper led 28-12 at halftime.
Red Oak’s struggles continued in the second half as they were unable to put up any points in the third quarter. Kuemper got another double-digit quarter with 12 points in the third as they took a 40-12 lead into the fourth quarter. The Knights set their cruise control as they’d round out a solid defensive night with a 49-20 win at home. Lauren Boell had a solid night for the Knights as well with eight points and five rebounds along with three steals.
The win brings the Knights to 2-2 overall on the season and 1-1 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference. Kuemper is on the road on Tuesday, December 13th as they take on Atlantic.

The South Central Calhoun Titans from start to finish were dominant as they extended their winning streak to four straight with a route of GTRA Friday night.
The Titans wasted little time getting down to business as they’d put up 23 points in the first quarter and led 23-6 going into the second quarter. Riley Batta and Kylee Schleisman were an unstoppable duo on the floor with Batta coming away with 11 points and four steals in the first quarter alone. South Central Calhoun kept their offensive attack going in the second quarter with another 20-point performance as Batta and the Titans led 43-11 at halftime. Batta had 15 points in the first half for South Central Calhoun.
Coming out of halftime South Central Calhoun picked up where they left off and kept GTRA at arm’s length. South Central Calhoun nearly went three straight quarters with 20 points with 18 in the third quarter and kept GTRA to four points, leading 61-15 left in the contest. Batta and Schliesman had a chance to take a break toward the end of the game with Olivia Toms stepping up big time off the bench. Toms would come away with 16 points and lead another strong fourth quarter for the Titans as South Central Calhoun came away with a 73-28 win at home. Schleisman and Batta both put up double-doubles with Schleisman putting up 15 points and 10 assists and Batta having 21 points and 10 rebounds.
South Central Calhoun has now won four in a row to improve their record to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Twin Lakes Conference.

Boyer Valley At Glidden Ralston

Glidden Ralston used a nice run late in the 1st half to lead by 6 at the half on their way to their second win of the season. Defensively the Wildcats held Boyer Valley to 6 points in the 2nd quarter and 7 in the 3rd as they opened up a 10-point lead in the 2nd half. Kassidy Wenck scored 12 straight points for the Wildcats from late in the 3rd until late in the 4th quarter, helping to hold off any rally for the Bulldogs. The Win moves the Wildcats to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Rolling Valley Conference and gives Glidden Ralston a 2-game winning streak.
Tiela Janssen came out firing, scoring on a three and a pair of free throws as the Wildcats led 5-3 early. The 1st quarter was tight with four ties and three lead changes. Paige Klocke hit a three to put the Wildcats up 8-5 after Boyer Valley tied the game at 5. The Bulldogs grabbed their first lead at 10-9 but Kassidy Wenck hit a pair of free throws for an 11-10 Wildcats lead. Boyer Valley hit another three but Paige Klocke tied it at 13 to end the 1st quarter. Ashtyn Klocke gave Glidden Ralston the lead for good with a three to start the 2nd quarter. A tough layup by Vanessa Koehler in traffic put the Wildcats up 20-16, then Paige Klocke extended it to 22-16. The 6-0 run gave the Wildcats the lead for good. Boyer Valley cut it to three but Paige Klocke answered with another three and the Wildcats led 25-19 at the half.
Boyer Valley cut the deficit to 25-23 early in the 3rd quarter but Paige Klocke hit her final three, then Kassidy Wenck took over. Wenck had a bucket to make it 30-23, then hit a free throw and another bucket to make it 33-23. Wenck ended up scoring all 12 points for Glidden Ralston from late in the 3rd quarter until Paige Klocke scored to make it 42-33 in the final minutes of the 4th quarter.
Paige Klocke led the Wildcats with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Kassidy Wenck added 14 points and 6 rebounds. Vanessa Koehler did her damage on the glass and defensively while also finding her teammates for some easy buckets. Koehler had 12 rebounds, 4 assists, and a team-high 4 steals. Elizabeth Lloyd pulled down 4 rebounds.
The Wildcats head to Paton Churdan on Tuesday.

Becca Anderson was a scoring machine for Paton Churdan Friday night as the Rockets took on West Harrison.
Both teams entered this contest looking for their first win of the season and both teams played with plenty of heart. The Rockets were able to grab the advantage after the first quarter, leading 13-10. West Harrison caught up to the Rockets and got past them a bit with the 19-16 lead at halftime. Becca Anderson was unstoppable on the floor as she ended up with 36 of the Rockets’ points on the night. In the second half, both teams were nearly back-to-back with points scored. They’d both put up 17 points in the third quarter to keep West Harrison ahead by a score of 36-33. Paton Churdan fought hard in the final eight minutes of the contest and did end up winning the quarter by a score of 18-17. The small three-point lead for West Harrison ended up being their savior as they narrowly escaped with a 53-51 win.
Emma Stream also had a nice night for the Rockets with nine points on the floor. Paton Chrudan’s week of competition will end with another game on Saturday, December 10th when they travel to take on Boyer Valley.

The IKM-Manning Wolves were inches away from a late-game rally, but they didn’t have enough gas in the tank against Tri-Center Friday night.
The Wolves have started off the season with a nice 2-1 start with a solid win against AHSTW behind them. Tri-Center is off to a 2-2 start themselves with wins over West Harrison and Audubon. In the first quarter, the Trojans were challenged well by the Wolves but held on by two points at 12-10. Tri-Center started to inch away from IKM-Manning increasing their two-point lead up to 10 points at 31-21 at halftime.
The Wolves completely changed the momentum of the game in the third quarter by shutting down the Trojans. The Wolves ended up outscoring the Trojans 16-7 and cut the 10-point deficit down to one point at 38-37 going into the final eight minutes of the game. A massive third-quarter push led to a less-than-anticipated fourth quarter for IKM-Manning with only seven points added to their score. Tri-Center was able to bounce back with 14 points in the fourth and took home the 52-44 win.
Mabel Langel continued to be a leader on the floor as she had 15 points for the Wolves with Abby Nieheisel and Anna Stangl adding eight points each. The loss drops the Wolves to 2-2 overall on the season and 2-1 in the Western Iowa Conference. They are at home on Saturday, December 10th when they host Exira-EHK.

The Audubon Wheelers had another test within the Western Iowa Conference as they hosted AHSTW Friday night.
The Wheelers are coming off a tough loss to defending conference champions Treynor while AHSTW found themselves in a two-game rut looking for a win. The Wheelers were able to hold on early with the Vikings down 5-3, but eventually, AHSTW were able to get out 8-3 heading into the second quarter. The Vikings got out early in the quarter with a 6-0 run to lead 14-3. Audubon had a 5-0 scoring run of their own to cut down the Vikings’ lead to 14-8. Toward the end of the first half, the Vikings were able to close it out with a 12-5 scoring run to lead it 26-13 at halftime. Sienna Albertsen had a nice scoring night for the Wheelers with eight points total. Just behind her was Rylee Brittain who came up with six points.
The third quarter was all AHSTW as they’d extend their lead further after going 14-4, leading 40-17 heading into the fourth quarter. Audubon didn’t have many answers for the Vikings in the fourth quarter as the Vikings cruised for the final eight minutes to a 52-24 victory in Audubon.
The Wheelers are back in action on Tuesday, December 13th when they travel to take on Riverside.

The East Sac Raiders faced off against one of the best teams in Iowa girls basketball in Newell Fonda at home Friday night.
The Mustangs are off to a 4-0 start this season while the Raiders in their first two games are 0-2. Newell Fonda didn’t waste any time in getting out to a 26-7 lead after the first half and led by 29 at halftime at 46-17. The points kept coming the Mustang’s way as they’d get another 26 points up in the third quarter and finally 20 points in the fourth quarter. The Raiders had a nice second quarter with 10 points, but they were unable to slow down the Mustangs. Newell Fonda comes away with a 92-21 win. Kendall Quirk led the Raiders with seven points and Addisen Ehler had five rebounds, a team-best.
The Raiders are in action this weekend on Saturday, December 10th when they travel to take on the Falcons of OABCIG.
