Treynor at Audubon

Treynor 68

Audubon 28

The Audubon Wheelers had a tough opponent Tuesday night as they took on the defending Western Iowa Conference champions Treynor.

The Cardinals gave the Wheelers trouble from the start as they’d get out to a 9-0 scoring run in the first quarter and implemented a full-court defense that caused plenty of Audubon turnovers. Madison Steckler was able to find ways inside the lane to put up two buckets for four points as the Wheelers found themselves down 15-4 after one quarter. Treynor’s defensive attack kept them ahead in the second quarter as they’d extend their lead to 26-10. Steckler was able to drain a three pointer that gave her seven points on the game to lead the team.

The Cardinals backed off from a full-court press in the second half, but kept poking and prodding the ball away from the Wheelers for more takeaways. Treynor found themselves up 47-16 entering the final eight minutes of the contest. Audubon’s fourth quarter had some nice moments including Steckler putting up five points and some better ball movement on offense. After the final horn sounded, the Treynor Cardinals were victorious by a final score of 68-28.

The Wheelers round out their week of competition as they take on AHSTW on Friday, December 9th.
