South Central Calhoun held on for a close win Monday night as they traveled to take on Twin Lakes foe Manson NW Webster.

The Titans had a solid start in the first quarter, holding off the Cougars and keeping them to four points while getting up 9-4. Both teams would go point-for-point in the second quarter with a 13-point standstill to keep the Titans ahead by five points at 22-17 at halftime. Riley Batta and Kylee Schliesman were a dynamic duo on the floor as Batta led the team with 24 points and Schliesman had 12. 

Manson NW Webster gained some ground back with the Cougars winning the third quarter 11-9 and cutting down the Titans’ lead to three points at 31-28. South Central Calhoun Head Coach Curt Batta says their shooting wasn’t the best tonight, but they got the job done. In the final eight minutes of the contest, the Titans were able to hold on by five points for the 41-36 win.

South Central Calhoun has now won two and a row and are 2-1 overall on the season and 2-0 in the Twin Lakes Conference. They are back in action on Tuesday, December 6th when they travel to take on Webster City.

Glidden Ralston at Woodward Granger

The Glidden Ralston Wildcats won a nailbiter of a game Monday night as they traveled to take on Woodward Granger. 

The Wildcats got off to a solid start against the Hawks and held on to a two-point but would trail 15-14 heading into the second quarter. Glidden Ralston would flip the script in the second quarter and outpaced the Hawks 14-4 and led 28-19 heading into halftime. Glidden Ralston in this game was led by Tiela Janssen who had herself a great scoring effort with 24 points, followed closely behind by Paige Klocke who had 17 points. 

Along with their solid offensive stats the Wildcats kept their defense sharp while Woodward Granger started to mount a comeback. The Hawks started off with an 11-point third quarter and cut down the nine-point Wildcats lead by two at 37-30 going into the final eight minutes of the contest. The push for a comeback continued for Woodward Granger as they’d cut down Glidden Ralston’s lead down to one point at 49-48 with 10 seconds left. The Wildcats were in control of the ball on the sideline. Tiela Janssen was set up to take one last shot to put away the Hawks but missed it. Paige Klocke was ready underneath the basket with the rebound and putback to give the Wildcats the 51-48 win and their first victory of the season. 

The Wildcats have one final game of the week as they host Boyer Valley on Friday, December 9th.

Stanton at Coon Rapids Bayard

The Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders saw too many mistakes happen on the court Monday night as they took on Stanton. 

The Crusaders’ struggles started off in the first half where Stanton took control early and didn’t let go. The Viqueens took a 16-2 advantage into the second quarter. The Crusaders made up for some lost opportunities by putting up 10 points in the second quarter, but still trailed by 23-12 at halftime. Coon Rapids Bayard Head Coach Kaitlyn McAlister said her team had many unforced turnovers in this game among some other struggles in the first game of their busy week.

The Crusaders couldn’t snap out of their struggles in the second half, putting up only 14 points in the second half while Stanton had 27. The Viqueens came away with a 50-26 win to give Coon Rapids Bayard their first loss of the early season. Anna Hart and Lydia Hofbauer lead the team with six points while Breeley Clayburg was a big asset underneath the hoop with 14 rebounds. Hart also led the team in steals with four in the night. 

The Crusaders have another opportunity to grow on the court as they host West Harrison on Tuesday, December 6th.
