The Carroll Tigers were able to put up big numbers Friday night against Gilbert, but barely edge out their conference rivals.
Both teams were shooting lights out in the second half, but it was Carroll who was razor sharp. Gilbert gave some resistance in the first quarter with 13 points but had a bit less in the second quarter with nine points. Carroll’s shooting gave them a nice 36-22 lead at halftime. Evan Hammer was one of those guys who was shooting lights out with 22 points total in this game along with four steals, five rebounds, and five assists.
Gilbert caught up to Carroll quickly in the second half with 24 points in the third quarter that erased a 14-point lead for Carroll down to one at 47-46 going into the final quarter. Carroll kept their heads up in the fourth quarter and got back to their shooting success they saw in the first half. Gilbert still gave plenty of effort in the quarter with 16 points, but Carroll was just about to edge them out with 20 fourth quarter points and came away with a clutch 67-62 win at home.
Carroll’s other top performances include Jack White who nearly had a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, Trey Hunter who ended up with 12 points and four assists, and Markus Wagner who came away with eight points. The Carroll Tigers starts off their season 2-0 and are now 1-0 in the Raccoon River Conference. They return to action on Tuesday, December 6th when they travel to take on North Polk.

Coon Rapids Bayard at Paton Churdan

Coon Rapids Bayard will start off their season 2-0 and bring some confidence into their schedule next week as they pick up a convincing win over Paton Churdan Friday night.
Despite only suiting five guys, Paton Churdan showed up well in the first quarter and caught Coon Rapids Bayard by surprise. They stayed close in the game down 9-6 until Coon Rapids Bayard closed out the first quarter leading by 10 points at 16-6. The Crusaders started to get back into shape in the second quarter, putting up 22 points and leading 38-8 at halftime. Cal Heydon in his second varsity game of his high school career, put up a double-double with 22 points and 16 rebounds along with six assists. Paton Churdan’s Shaydon Thurman showed that he can lead this Rockets team as he put up 12 points and five rebounds.
Paton Churdan started to get some nice shot off and that was thanks to Phoenix Hartman who came up clutch. He sank three shots inside the paint with plenty of pressure in his face for six points in the third quarter. Hartman in his high school debut ended up with 10 points and five rebounds. Coon Rapids Bayard continued to set the pace and ended up with a 62-28 victory in the end.
The Crusaders will start the season off with a 2-0 record while Paton Churdans begins conference play and the season at 0-1. Coon Rapids Bayard is back in action on Monday, December 5th when they host Stanton while Paton Churdan takes on West Harrison on Friday, December 9th.

It was kind of an odd game on Friday as both teams went nearly a quarter without scoring but South Central Calhoun was in control most of the game. The Titans jumped out 20-0 in the 1st quarter and led 26-6 heading into the 2nd quarter. Their lead got as high as 27 but the Raiders wouldn’t quit fighting. East Sac held South Central Calhoun scoreless until the 1:32 mark of the 3rd quarter but only cut the deficit to 47-31. The Raiders didn’t score until there was 1:31 left in the 1st quarter, falling down 20-0. The Raiders outscored the Titans 21-14 in the 2nd half.
Joe Clark scored to put South Central Calhoun up 2-0 to start the game. Tyler Lightner and Gavin Batta were huge on the offensive end early. Lightner was able to get to the rim and was strong with a mid-range jump shot. Batta drained a couple three’s and was strong on the boards and in the mid-range. They combined for 17 of the Titans first 20-points. Karter Ludwig hit a jumper to get the Raiders on the board with 1:31 left in the 1st quarter. Caleb Eichorn knocked in a three and the Raiders settled in but trailed 26-6 after the 1st quarter. Ryan Clair was really strong for East Sac, coming off the bench. He picked up the Raiders in the 2nd quarter, scoring 7 of their first 10-points. Eli Wheelock got rolling in the 2nd quarter for South Central Calhoun, scoring 11 of their first 15-points of the quarter. The Titans led 47-20, going into the half.
Luke Wright scored his first points of the game to start the 2nd half, though he did most of his damage on the boards, finishing with 11 rebounds. Ryan Clair and Wright scored the first 8-points of the half, then Aden Vondrak hit a three to pull the Raiders within 47-31. Joe Clark responded for South Central Calhoun, scoring with 1:32 left in the quarter to stem the tide. The Titans built the lead back to 22-points and the Raiders were only able to get as close as 17 the rest of the game.
The Titans were paced by Eli Wheelock and Gavin Batta with 18 points and 17 points respectively. Batta added 8 rebounds and 4 assists while Wheelock had 4 steals. Tyler Lightner finished with 10 points while Joe Clark had his typical all-around game with 8 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 6 steals. Bryan Steig added 6 rebounds off the bench.
Ryan Clair paced the Raiders with 15 points while pulling down 8 rebounds, Caleb Eichorn added 13 points. Luke Wright finished with 11 rebounds and Luke Wernimont had 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Aden Vondrak pulled down 6 rebounds while dishing out 3 assists.
The Titans open the season 1-0 and will play at Manson NW Webster on Monday. East Sac sits 0-1 and plays Newell Fonda next Friday.

The IKM-Manning Wolves early success continues as they are now 2-0 after a solid win over Riverside Friday night.
The early parts of the first quarter were going IKM-Manning’s way as they’d get out to a 10-5 lead heading into the second quarter. Riverside was able to avenge their first quarter woes with a solid second quarter performance that gave them the lead. IKM-Manning’s response was a 15-2 run in the later portions of the quarter to take back the lead at 25-15 going into halftime. Cooper Irlmeier was able to come up big in this game with 11 points, five rebounds, and three steals.
In the second half, IKM-Manning was still challenged well by Riverside, but they were able to keep their lead intact at 35-23 heading into the final eight minutes of the game. Riverside made it interesting by cutting down the Wolves’ 12-point lead down to six at 37-31 with a late game push. While the Bulldogs still ended up outscoring the Wolves, IKM-Manning’s overall performance awarded them with a 43-34 win at home.
Other star performances from the Wolves include Reed Hinners with seven points and eight rebounds and Caden Keller with nine points and nine rebounds. IKM-Manning returns to action on Tuesday, December 6th when they host AHSTW in an early season game of undefeated conference rivals.

The Ar-We-Va Rockets had their season opener postponed Tuesday night, leaving Friday as their new season opener as they proved a lot in their loss to CAM Anita.
The Rockets got to work from the start as they’d keep up well with the Cougars. CAM would only outscore Ar-We-Va by one point and hold on to a 12-11 lead going into the second quarter. The Rockets proved that they could hang with one of the top teams in the Rolling Valley Conference as they put-up double-digit points in all four quarters. The Cougars started to inch a bit away from the Rockets by getting ahead seven points at 29-22 at halftime. Emmett Neumann and Blayne Smith were leaders of this young Rockets team as Neumann put up 15 points and eight rebounds and Smith had 13 points and four rebounds.
Ar-We-Va gained some ground back in the second half with a nice third quarter performance. A nine-point Cougar lead was diminished down to a mere five points at 41-36 heading into the fourth quarter. The Rockets kept chipping away at that CAM Anita lead and eventually were only down by three points with three minutes left in the game. Despite that, CAM Anita found ways around the Rockets to come away with a 54-46 win.
Other notable performances from the Rockets include Kyelar Cleveland, Harley Molina, and Tyson VonGlan who all recorded six rebounds with Molina having four assists on top of that. The Rockets are back in action on Tuesday, December 6th when they take on Exira-EHK at home.

The Glidden Ralston Wildcats came close to victory Friday night against Exira-EHK, but a poor start hurt them in the long run.
The Wildcats did not get the start they wanted in the first quarter as the Spartans got out quickly to a 16-3 lead and led 20-5 going into the second quarter. Glidden Ralston played leaps and bounds better in the second quarter, even outscoring the Spartans 17-12, but still trailed by 10 points at 32-22. Three Wildcats ended up with double digit points in this game, including Ethan Olberding and John Whitver who led the team with 12 points and Colby Wallace who ended up with 10 points.
Glidden Ralston’s luck changed a fair bit in the second half, but so did Exira-EHK. The Spartans were able to match the Wildcats in points with 10 in the third quarter, keeping them ahead by 10 points at 42-32. The Wildcats still weren’t done yet, they’d make a huge comeback in the fourth quarter and eventually turned a 10-point deficit to a one-point lead at 47-46. Both teams would end up tied at 50 points until the Spartans were able to close out the contest with a 7-0 scoring run winning 57-50.
The Wildcats are on the road on Monday, December 5th when they take on Woodward Granger.

The Audubon Wheelers continued to find their groove on the court as they took an undefeated Tri-Center squad Friday night.
The Wheelers got off to another great start as they did against Missouri Valley and kept up with Tri-Center. The Trojans were only able to hold on to a three-point lead heading into the second quarter at 13-10. In the second quarter, the Trojans were able to distance themselves from the Wheelers with 21 points in the quarter and leading 24-19 at halftime. Edward Miller had another solid scoring game as he put up 13 points and had great help from Carson Bauer who ended up with 11 points.
Tri-Center in the second half were just as precise as they’d keep up their scoring pace. Audubon was still able to find room to put-up double-digit points in both of the final two quarters. Tri-Center’s offensive efforts awarded them 38 second half points and a 72-42 win. Audubon’s 23 points in the second half continues their trend of solid second half playing in the early parts of the season. They are off until Tuesday, December 6th when they take on Treynor at home.
