Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Kuemper Falls in Quarterfinals to Dike- New Hartford

Kuemper made a furious rally in set one, gaining some momentum but couldn’t make up the 21-8 deficit and fell in three sets to top ranked Dike-New Hartford on Tuesday. Their block was strong from the middle of the first set on, finishing with 10 blocks against one of the best hitting teams in the state. Dike-New Hartford block created a lot of trouble for Kuemper early in set one, forcing Kuemper to adjust their approach and how close they were to the net. The Knights struggled to get their hitters going, finishing with a -.118 hitting efficiency but held Dike-New Hartford to a .141 kill efficiency, well above their season average of .334.

Dike-New Hartford started the match with an 8-1 lead getting big kills from Payton Petersen who finished with 15 kills. The Knights called a time out and cut the deficit to 12-4 but the Wolverines went on another run, extending the lead to 21-8. Kuemper came on strong with their block at that point, frustrating the Wolverines hitters and forcing Dike-New Hartford to take a timeout. Kuemper pulled within 22-18, but Dike-New Hartford responded with two straight, going up 24-18. The Knights answered with a pair of points but fell 25-20.

A quick start in set two put the Wolverines up 12-3 and Kuemper struggled to stay in system as Dike-New Hartford took control of the match, going on to win 25-11. The Knights picked up some momentum scoring three of the last six points. A 6-0 lead for Dike-New Hartford in set three put Kuemper behind from the start and they would trail by as many as 11. The Wolverines won the final set 25-14 to advance into the semifinals.

Lauren Boell led the Knights with 5 kills, Sophie Badding had 4 kills and Frannie Glynn and Kaci Peter each had 2 kills. Ashlyn Badding had a team high 8 assists, Macy Simons finished with 4 assists. Sophie Badding finished with 6 blocks; Lauren Boell added 2 blocks. Kaylie Simons finished with a team high 9 digs with Ashlyn Badding adding 7 digs and Aubrey Heuton had 4 kills. Kaylie Simons had both of the Kuemper aces.

The Knights finished the season 38-5 with a Hawkeye 10 Conference Championship.
