Audubon swept through their opening round matchup with Nodaway Valley, winning set one late, then controlling sets two and three. The first set had 12 ties and 4 lead changes while the rest of the match was only tied twice. Audubon jumped out early in set one, leading 4-1 but Nodaway Valley rallied back to tie the set at 5. The Wheelers pulled ahead and maintained a 1 to 2 point lead until Nodaway Valley tied it at 12, then 14 and 16, taking their first lead at 17-16. The Wheelers rallied back and lead 19-18 but the Wolverines weren’t done yet, scoring 3 straight to lead 21-20. Audubon quickly took the lead back and Mattie Nielsen served the final two points to give them a 25-22. Mattie Nielsen had 9 kills in the first set for Audubon. Addie Hocker had a 3 point service run early in set two, putting the Wheelers ahead 8-3. They never looked back, jumping ahead 17-6. Nodaway Valley settled in late in the set, cutting the Wheelers lead which had grown to 11 several times down to 8. The Wheelers went up 2-0 with a 25-16 win. A quick 2-0 lead by Audubon was erased as the Wolverines scored a pair tying the set at 2. They tied it again at 3 before Audubon went on a run behind the serving of Harlow Miller. They led 7-4 but Nodaway Valley scored a pair of points again to trail 7-6. That would be as close as it got with the Wheelers stretching the lead to 19-10. Nodaway Valley pulled within 8 again late but Audubon went on to win 25-18.
The Wheelers hit .220 with 29 kills. They added 11 blocks and 8 aces. Mattie Nielsen and Harlow Miller both had double digits in kills. Nielsen led the team with 14 kills and Miller added 11 kills, playing well in sets two and three. Addie Hocker finished with 26 assists. Mattie Nielsen led the back row with 8 digs and tied for the team lead with 3 blocks. Harlow Miller and Kali Irlmeier both had 3 kills. Addie Hocker led the Wheelers with 3 aces and Kylee Hartl added 2 aces.

Coon Rapids Bayard had their season come to an end against a good Griswold team on the road. The Crusaders battled hard on every point, making Griswold work to score. Lydia Hofbauer paced the Crusaders with 6 kills, Gracy Johnson and Malia Clayburg both added 5 kills and Aubrey Hofbauer added 3 kills. Gracy Johnson led the team with 5 assists and Lacie Davis had 3 assists. Lacie Davis paced the back row with 17 digs, Anna Hart had 14 digs, Gracy Johnson had 10 digs and Lydia Hofbauer added 7 digs. Lydia Hofbauer had a very good all-around game with 4 blocks, while Malia Clayburg led the team with 5 blocks.
The Crusaders ended their season 8-21.

East Sac advanced through the opening round with a four set win over the Rams on Monday, advancing to take on Ridge View at Holstein. East Sac controlled sets one, three and four while struggling in set two, trailing 21-10 before falling 25-19. They used the momentum from the late part of set two to control the early part of set three. The Raiders had seven different players make a kill as the team hit .061. They finished with 34 kills with Kenna Meyer leading the way with 9 kills, Kierstin Carroll and Addisen Ehler both had 7 kills and Kate Vondrak added 5 kills. Mary Bontrager led the setters with 18 assists while Jen Aschinger and Kendall Quirk both had 8 assists. Kenna Meyer also had a team high 9 digs with Kate Vondrak finishing with 7 digs and Mary Bontrager and Ella Lynch both having 5 digs. Kate Vondrak had 3 of the teams 5 blocks. East Sac had 11 aces, serving 89.5% with Mary Bontrager leading the way with 5 aces and Kenna Meyer with 4 aces.
East Sac improved to 15-14 heading into their match with 28-7 Ridge View.

IKM-Manning played one of their best matches of the year, leaving it all out there in a the opening round of regionals. The Wolves fell 3-1, taking set three, then nearly winning set four. They struggled in set one but came on in set two, using the momentum to help propel them into the win in set three. IKM-Manning finished with a .043 kill efficiency with Kylie Powers leading the team with 10 kills and Megan Williams adding 7 kills. Amber Halbur had a very good all-around match with 19 assists, 3 kills, 12 digs and an ace. Anna Stangl had a team high 19 digs and Emmie Ring added 8 digs. Ring added a team high 2 aces. The Wolves served 88.4% with 5 aces.

The Glidden Ralston Wildcats took care of business Monday as they hosted their opening round of playoffs in Class 1A Region 3, hosting Storm Lake St. Mary’s.
Coming out of the gate, the Rolling Valley Conference regular season champion Wildcats showed their might with a dominant 25-12 win in set one. Paige Klocke had five kills to start off and Lauren Hulsing added three kills and an ace. Glidden Ralston kept that pace up all night as they cruised to a 25-11 set two win. Summer Toms clenched the set win with a final ace serve to give the Wildcats a 2-0 set lead. Addy Boell was also great at the setter position as she recorded 24 assists overall in the match. Hulsing had a great night overall with 11 kills and seven digs. In set three, the Wildcats didn’t let up and were able to sweep the Panthers with a 25-14 win.
Glidden Ralston improves to 23-5 overall on the season and advances to the quarterfinals of the Class 1A Region 3 bracket. They will host the next match as they host West Bend Mallard on Wednesday, October 19th.

The Ar-We-Va Rockets battled well in sets one and three against the St. Edmond Gaels Monday but couldn’t find all the answers.
The Rockets were able to hold the early advantage in set one thanks to some mistakes from the Gaels offense. Ar-We-Va led 13-9 before St. Edmond tied it at 13-13 with a 4-0 scoring run. From there it was a back and forth with tied and lead changes before Ar-We-Va had set point at 24-23. The Gaels hung on though to win it in extra points at 28-26. Maggie Ragaller had a solid night for Ar-We-Va, putting up nine kills and had support from Jamie Hausman and Kora Obrecht who both had seven kills. Set two solely belonged to St. Edmond as Ar-We-Va faced some difficulties themselves. The Gaels tied the set at 4-4 and got a surge of momentum to get up 20-10 towards the end and eventually win 25-12. The Rockets had some fight left in them in the third set and started to play better. The Gaels were up 16-10 in the middle of the set before Ar-We-Va started to bounce back and eventually tie the set at 21-21. Serve receiving is what the Rockets struggled with in this game and the Gaels were able to get some ace serves late in the set. The Gaels were victorious with one final pushed ball that went out of bounds from the Rockets to give them the 25-23 win.
The season for Ar-We-Va comes to an end with a final record of 4-18.

The Paton Churdan Rockets saw their season come to an end in the first round of the Class 1A Region 3 playoffs as they took on Twin Lakes Conference Champions Newell Fonda.
The Rockets were able to find ways to get points on the boards in the first set. The Mustangs, though, got out in front and kept in the driver’s seat, winning 25-12 in set one. The Rockets defensively saw some success with Becca Anderson putting up eight digs and Paige Teeples right behind her with seven digs. Newell Fonda left set two winning 25-8 and finished the match with a 25-6 set three win. The Rockets season comes to an end with a final record of 1-20.
