In their regular season finale, the Kuemper Knights were tested well against Sergeant Bluff Luton Thursday night.
The Warriors were battle tested coming into this game and they showed that by hanging on well in the initial parts of the first set. After exchanging five ties, the Knights broke an 8-8 tie and started to pull away. They’d end up winning the set 25-15 with some nice playing all around. Lauren Boell led the team early with four kills and Aubrey Heuton had two blocks. Set two was a lot closer toward the end of the set when the Warrior mounted a comeback. Kuemper held a 16-11 lead before Sergeant Bluff Luton had a 5-0 scoring run to tie the set at 16-16. Both teams went back and forth tying the game and taking the lead until the Knights stayed ahead and won the set 25-23. Kaci Peter went up the set ending kill.
Sets three and four belonged to the Warriors as they started to play around the Kuemper block. Alexa Trover led the charge for the Warriors and came away with 15+ kills. Kuemper was close to tying up set three at 14-13, but the Warriors stayed ahead and ended up winning the set 25-19. Set four was close throughout, but the struggles defensively continued for Kuemper. Sergeant Bluff Luton had the set tied at 11-11 and were able to string together a 25-22 win, forcing a determining set five.
Kuemper was able to finally figure out the Warriors strategy defensively and got some nice swings. They’d get out to a 4-1 start and kept that pace to a 15-8 victory with one last kill from Heuton. Other stats for the Knights include Frannie Glynn with five blocks and Kaylie Simons who ended up with 12 digs. Macy Simons and Ashlyn Badding both set the ball well with 24 and 22 assists respectively.
The win elevates the Knights to 35-4 overall on the season and extends their winning streak to 11 games. They will take on the winner of Panorama and Underwood in the Class 2A Region 3 Quarterfinals at home on Wednesday, October 19th.

The Titans fell short of winning the Twin Lakes Conference, falling in four sets to Newell Fonda. The Mustangs claimed the conference title, finishing one game ahead of the Titans. South Central Calhoun played well in three of the four sets, but couldn’t keep the momentum from a 26-24 win in set one. They dropped set two, 25-11 and set three 25-19, digging them a hole they nearly dug out of. The Titans were edged in set four 26-24 to fall. The Titans hit only .015, with 34 kills. They did a nice job getting touches and blocks with 9 blocks, thanks to another big night from Keira Hammen. The Titans finished with 10 aces but served only 87.7%.
Jayci Graeve had a big match for the Titans, helping keep them in the match. She finished with 37 assists, 16 digs and a pair of aces. Brenna McAlister had team high 10 kills to go with 15 digs. Riley Batta added 9 kills and 2 blocks. Keira Hammen was strong both offensively and defensively at the net with 10 kills and 6 blocks. Kylee Schleisman had 16 digs and a pair of aces and Alexa Holm added 9 digs and 4 aces.

The Titans finished the triangular 1-1 with a sweep of Sioux Central. The Titans cruised to an opening set win, 25-12, then kept the Rebels at bay with a 25-18 and 25-20 win over the next two sets to pick up their 31st win of the season. South Central Calhoun hit at a .207 kill efficiency, finishing with 33 kills. They served much better in this match, serving at a 91.5% clip with 13 aces, with Riley Batta leading six different Titans with an ace.
Riley Batta had a team high 10 kills to go with 6 digs and 6 aces. Keira Hammen added 7 kills and Mollie Monahan added 6 kills with Brenna McAlister finishing with 5 kills. Jayci Graeve added to a good night with 31 assists, 10 digs and 2 aces. Kylee Schleisman had 8 digs and 2 aces.
The Titans head to the Winterset Tournament on Saturday at 31-6 overall and 10-1 mark in the Twin Lakes Conference.

The Raiders battled hard but fell in four sets to end the regular at 14-14. The largest margin of victory in for either team was set three, which Alta-Aurelia won 25-20. East Sac tied the match at a set apiece, taking set two 28-26. They finished with a .171 kill efficiency, with 46 kills and two girls in double figures. They held the Warriors to a .144 kill efficiency and 43 kills. The Raiders served 92.3% efficiency but had only 2 aces while the Warriors had 12 aces. Kate Vondrak was dominant at the net defensively, helping the Raiders finish with 12 blocks.
Kate Vondrak had a big night with 15 kills, 7 blocks and 16 digs. Kenna Meyer added 13 kills and 16 digs. Mary Bontrager had a team high 21 assists and Jen Aschinger added 11 assists and 9 digs. Addisen Ehler nearly gave East Sac three girls with double figure kills, finishing with 9 kills and 3 blocks. Kendall Quirk had 8 assists and Greeley Schlepp added 6 digs.
The Raiders are 14-14 overall. They host MVAOCOU on Monday in opening round of Regionals.

The Paton Churdan Rockets were unable to pick up a win Thursday night as they took on Eagle Grove Thursday night.
The Rockets got off to a solid start in set one but couldn’t grab the win, falling 25-19 set win. Becca Anderson led the team offensively with four kills while Calleigh Fitzpatrick was second with three kills. The Rockets couldn’t keep their pace in set two as the Eagles won the set 25-17. Paton Churdan came back in set three with some nice momentum. The Rockets kept the set close but came up short by a score of 25-20.
Other stats from the Rockets include Becca Anderson with 12 digs, Emma Stream close behind with 11 digs, and Bailey Anderson with six assists.

Audubon and IKM-Manning At Western Iowa Conference Tournament At Tri Center
Audubon and IKM-Manning both competed in the consolations brackets of the Western Iowa Conference Tournament in Tri Center on Thursday. The Wheelers finished the night with wins over IKM-Manning and AHSTW and a close two set loss to Tri Center. The Wheelers should finish 6th at the conference tournament. They were able to control the match with IKM-Manning, picking up a 2-o win, defeating the Wolves 21-13 and 21-10. The Wheelers squeezed out a firs set win against AHSTW, winning 24-22. That momentum carried into set two and they rolled 21-11. The loss to Tri Center was a well played match with the Wheelers falling 21-17 and 21-19. The pair of wins helped the Wheelers improve to 14-16 on the season.
The IKM-Manning Wolves fell in all three matches they played Thursday night. The Wolves took on Tri-Center, Audubon, and LoMa. Against Tri-Center, the Wolves didn’t have great luck in the first set falling 21-10. They saw some better play in set two, but ultimately fell 21-16. Kylie Powers had a nice night in the front row, ending the night with 10 kills. Against Audubon, the Wheelers took control from the start winning both sets 21-13 and 21-10. The Wolves saw their best game against LoMa. Set one was very close between both teams where the Panthers only won by two points at 21-19. IKM-Manning still played fairly well in set two but LoMa won by a wider margin at 21-15.
Mattie Nielsen had 6 kills in all three matches and led the Wheelers with 18 kills. She added 8 digs and 8 aces. Addie Hocker finished with 45 assists, with 15 in each match. She also had 4 aces. Harlow Miller added 14 kills and tied for the team lead with 7 aces. Madison Steckler finished with 11 kills. Michelle Brooks was really good defensively at the net, finishing with 7 blocks. Audrey Jensen led a balanced back row with 13 digs to go with 6 aces. Kylee Hartl added 11 digs and 3 aces, Anna Larsen had 9 digs and 4 aces.
The Wheelers will host Nodaway Valley on Monday in the Regionals.
