The IKM-Manning Wolves were matched up with the AHSTW Vikings in the opening round of the Western Iowa Conference where they played three entertaining sets.
The Wolves started out the match with an electric set one, going the distance with AHSTW. The set went into extra points where the Vikings eventually came away with the 29-27 win. After a long set one, both teams entered set two with the same amount of energy. IKM-Manning came out and kept up with the Vikings, but eventually it was AHSTW who pulled away for a 25-19 win. The Wolves in this match were led offensively by Kylie Powers who ended the night with seven kills, one kill ahead of Mable Langel who ended up with six kills. AHSTW in set three was able to claim their widest margin of victory, getting past IKM-Manning by a score of 25-14, winning the opening match of the WIC tournament 3-0 in sets.
The loss drops the Wolves to 2-18 overall on the season. IKM-Manning will continue consolation matches at the WIC tournament on Thursday, October 13th.

The Audubon Wheelers came in as the seven seed in the Western Iowa Conference and had to take on one of the conference’s best in Missouri Valley.
The Wheelers didn’t get off to the start they wanted but had some opportunities to stay in set one. Missouri Valley was able to keep the momentum and came away with a 25-16 set one win. Set two was much closer and better for Audubon. They were down 10-8 in the beginning parts of the set and were able to get back within four points late. Mattie Nielsen was a big reason for the resurgence as she ended up with 14 kills in the match. The Wheelers stayed strong in the set down 22-18, but the Lady Reds were a few steps ahead and won 25-18. Set three was Missouri Valley’s best set of the match and didn’t let Audubon catch their breath. The Lady Reds cruised to a 25-13 set three win and won the match 3-0 in sets.
The loss drops the Wheelers to 12-15 overall on the season. Audubon will continue consolation matches of the WIC tournament on Thursday, October 13th.
