Audubon held a halftime lead but couldn’t hold the lead in the 2nd half, falling to 3rd place in the district race. The Wheelers had a chance to pull into a tie for first place in the district race and played well in the 1st half, outscoring the Hawkeyes 12-6 in the 2nd quarter to lead 20-19 at half. A safety in the 3rd quarter switched the lead and momentum and West Harrison was able to score a pair of touchdowns in the 4th quarter to claim the win and clinch a share of the district title.
West Harrison took the early lead when Mason McIntosh hit Nolan Birdsaw for a 2-yard touchdown with 7:17 left in the 1st quarter. Audubon responded, driving from their 15-yard line and scoring four players later on a 13-yard pass from Aaron Olsen to Edward Miller. The big play on the drive was the first play when Aaron Olsen ran for 57-yards. The Wheelers went up by a point with the two-conversion, leading 8-7. Mason King put West Harrison back ahead with a 1-yard run, late in the 1st quarter and the Hawkeyes led 13-8. The Wheelers answered in the 2nd quarter, taking a 14-13 lead when Evan Alt hit Edward Miller for a 7-yard touchdown. The lead didn’t last as Mason McIntosh hit Walker Rife for a 47-yard touchdown on the Hawks next possession and they lead 19-14. The Wheelers grabbed the lead right before half, scoring with 1:24 left in the half. Aaron Olsen found Edward Miller for his third touchdown catch, this time from 39-yards. Audubon led 20-19 at half.
West Harrison took the lead for good with a safety midway through the 3rd quarter, going up 21-20. They extended the lead early in the 4th quarter, scoring on the first play of the quarter. They put the game away with a touchdown pass from Mason McIntosh to Mason King, extending the lead to 35-20. Aaron Olsen found Evan Alt for a 29-yard touchdown with 2:14 remaining.
The Wheelers finished with 98-yards passing and 3 touchdowns. They ran for 147-yards on 30 carries. West Harrison had 215-yards rushing on 47 attempts and passed for 145-yards on 10-17 passing.
Aaron Olsen was 8-14 passing for 91-yards with 3 touchdowns and an interception. Edward Miller had 6 catches for 65-yards and 3 touchdowns catches. Aaron Olsen ran for 122-yards on 24 carries and Evan Alt ran it 3 times for 20-yards. Alt added 1 catch for 27-yards for a touchdown. Grant Gleason had 12 tackles. Manny Beisswinger added 9 tackles and Gavin Larsen had 7.5 tackles.
The Wheelers are 3-5 overall and 3-2 in district play. They host Woodbine in Week 8.
