Carlisle at Carroll

The Carroll Tigers had three exciting sets against Carlisle where each team put up 20 points in each set. The Tigers were close to victory in each set, but the Wildcats came out victorious. 

The Tigers started off set one with a nice 7-1 lead early over the Wildcats. Carlisle would bounce back and keep up with the Tigers throughout the set. Carroll had the lead at 16-12 before Carlisle went on an 11-0 run to get up 23-16. Despite a late set rally from the Tigers, the Wildcats were able to hold out for the 25-21 win in set one. Set two was just as close as the first set with Carroll this time having to rally back. Carlisle held a 19-16 lead late in the set when the set was all tied by the Tigers at 22-22. Katelyn Aden had a solid game for the Tigers finishing with seven kills and had some nice sets from Riley Nagl who ended the night with 10 assists. The final three points belonged to Carlisle and the Wildcats were up 2-0 in sets with a 25-22 set two victory. The third and final set was just like the two prior, close up until the end. While Carroll continued to play well, Carlisle found opportunities to gain the lead and they were able to squeak out the final set with a 25-22 win and the 3-0 match win. 

Other stat leaders for the Tigers include Camryn Schable who ended up with four blocks and Madison Tunning who had a solid 17 digs. The loss drops the Carroll Tigers to 9-21 overall on the season and 1-6 in the Racoon River Conference. They have one game next week and it’s on the road against conference foe ADM on Tuesday, October 11th.

AHSTW At Audubon

Audubon got a huge win in three sets at home on senior night, having to fight late to win sets two and three and show great character in doing so. The match had 29 ties and 16 lead changes with the Wheelers finding ways to win. Harlow Miller had a big block in set two to end it, that came after a Addie Hocker made a nice dump kill to put the Wheelers ahead 25-24. Mattie Nielsen’s kill ended the match in set three but the Wheelers had several players step up big in both sets. They won the battle of staying in system and were the aggressor most of the night. Their serve(90.7% with 11 aces) kept the Lady Vikes out of system, allowing the Wheelers to get a lot of free balls they used to their advantage. The Wheelers finished with 43 kills and a .196 kill efficiency while holding AHSTW to 20 kills. The defense was sharp minus a couple of lulls in sets two and three. They finished with 47 digs, averaging 15.7 per set.

Set one was tight for a while, with six ties and four lead changes, but Audubon took the lead for good at 9-8 and didn’t look back. They used a 5-0 run to build a 12-8 lead, then extended it to 21-12. Anna Larsen and Harlow Miller each had a service run while Mattie Nielsen and Harlow Miller swung well at the net, finishing with 6 kills and 5 kills respectively while Addie Hocker had 15 assists. Set two was much tighter, finishing with 11 ties and 5 lead changes. Audubon fell down 3-0 but battled back to lead 4-3. The Lady Vikes called time out, then answered to lead 6-5. Their lead grew to 11-8 but Audubon answered, tying it at 12 and taking the lead at 13-12. Anna Larsen led that run at the service line, keeping the Lady Vikes out of system. Her ace put the Wheelers up 16-12. The lead hung around two to four points until the Lady Vikes pulled even at 19. They took a 20-19 lead but an ace from Addie Hocker put the Wheelers up 21-20. The teams tied at 21, 22, 23 and 24. Harlow Miller gave Audubon a set point with a kill, putting them up 24-23 but the Lady Vikes tied it again. Addie Hocker had a beautiful dump kill, putting Audubon up 25-24, they won on a block by Harlow Miller. Addie Hocker had back-to-back aces early in set three as Audubon went ahead 4-2, but the Lady Vikes responded with three straight points and led 5-4. The third set was tight all the way through. Audubon largest lead was 21-15 while AHSTW led by 1, five times. The set changed leads seven times and was tied twelve times. Audubon took the lead for good at 14-13, taking control on a Kali Irlmeier block that put them up 15-13. AHSTW pulled within 23-19 late but never got any closer and Mattie Nielsen finished off the match with her 14th kill.

Addie Hocker was outstanding all night, finishing with 35 assists, along with 5 kills, 5 aces and 7 digs. Her top hitters were Mattie Nielsen with 14 kills and Harlow Miller with 10 kills. Madison Stecker had 5 kills and Kali Irlmeier finished with 4 kills. The back row was strong most of the night, led by Audrey Jensen who used her speed well to cover the donut and finished with a team high 14 digs. Mattie Nielsen added 9 digs, Kylee Hartl had 8 digs and Anna Larsen added 4 digs. Larsen added 3 aces and Jensen finished with 2 aces.

The Wheelers improved to 12-13 overall and 2-5 in the Western Iowa Conference. They travel to LoMa on Thursday.

Glidden Ralston at West Harrison

The Glidden Ralston Wildcats continued to sharpen their skills as they cruised to a three-set victory against West Harrison Tuesday.

The Wildcats are currently behind the CAM Anita Cougars in the Rolling Valley Conference and were able to keep up their momentum in conference play going up against West Harrison. They set the pace of the match with a strong set one win at 25-13. Vanessa Koehler continues to lead the Wildcat offense with a 14-kill performance in this match. Glidden Ralston kept up their dominant pace with their best set of the night, winning set two 25-11. West Harrison had some better success in set three where they started to figure out the Glidden Ralston offense. The Wildcats had to battle until the end and eventually they ended up victorious with a 25-20 set win and came away with a 3-0 match win.

Addy Boell continued to be a great setter for the Wildcats coming away with 29 assists. Tiela Janssen had a team high 16 digs and Boell led the team with four aces. The win elevates the Wildcats to 16-4 overall on the season and 5-0 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They have Pack the Gym night on Thursday, October 6th when they host Ar-We-Va.

The Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders played well all throughout their five set match against Exira-EHK but were just a bit shy of picking up the win. 

The Spartans got their offense going in the first set and were able to cruise to a 25-16 win. Coon Rapids Bayard fought hard in set two and their efforts rewarded them with a 25-22 win. The Crusaders had some playmakers in this game, Gracy Johnson being one of those players with seven kills, 24 digs, and six aces. Coon Rapids Bayard was able to keep their pace up in set three and came away with another 25-22 win. Coon Rapids Bayard Head Coach Marissa Dembinski said even though they started slow, they found some fire in the middle set. The Spartans came back in set four and were able to find the momentum to win 25-15, forcing a set five. Coon Rapids Bayard had glimmers in set five, but Exira-EHK was able to close out the match with a 15-8 set victory, winning the match 3-2 in sets. 

Other stat leaders for the Crusaders included Malia Clayburg who had four blocks and Lacie Davis who had 28 digs. The loss drops the Crusaders to 5-18 overall on the season and 2-5 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They have their senior night on Thursday, October 6th when they host Paton Churdan.

The Paton Churdan Rockets were able to hold their own against Woodbine Tuesday night but were unable to take home the win.

The Rockets came out with some nice offense and stayed with the Tigers for a majority of the set. Woodbine was able to stay ahead slightly and win set one 25-22. Paige Teeples led the Rockets in this game with four kills and had a solid five aces from the serving line. Set two solely belongs to the Tigers as they were able to cruise to a 25-12 win. Paton Churdan was able to bounce back in set three and kept the set interesting. Despite the comeback, Woodbine was still a step ahead of the Rockets and pulled out the 25-17 set three win to defeat Paton Churdan 3-0 in sets. Other stats for the Rockets included Becca Anderson who led the team with 10 digs and Emma Stream who had seven assists and two blocks. 

The Rockets are back on the court on Thursday, October 6th when they take on Coon Rapids Bayard.

LoMa at IKM-Manning

IKM-Manning was able to bounce back from a rough set one to play well in sets two and three against LoMa Tuesday night. 

The Panthers came out with a strong set one statement cruising to a 25-13 win. IKM-Manning shaked off that loss and played very well in set two. They were able to put up 21 points, but fell 25-21 to LoMa. Kylie Powers led the offensive push for the Wolves and ended the night with five kills. Amber Halbur had a solid time setting the ball and ended up with 12 assists. Set three for IKM-Manning was still good but LoMa was still able to keep the momentum on their side. The Panthers ended up victorious with a set three win at 25-17 and won the match 3-0. 

IKM-Manning wraps up their week of competition with a road game on Thursday, October 6th against conference foe Riverside.

The Ar-We-Va Rockets had a tough battle Tuesday night when they took on Rolling Valley Conference frontrunners CAM Anita. 

The Rockets were able to hold their own in set one against the Cougars, but despite a good effort, they fell 25-22. CAM Anita had their best performance in set two cruising to a 25-13. Maggie Ragaller had another solid performance for the Rockets leading the team with 10 kills. Delaney Schurke was also solid offensively with 18 assists. Ar-We-Va had a nice comeback in set three and were able to stick with CAM Anita. The Cougars were able to get the advantage late and won 25-20 taking home the match victory 3-0 in sets. 

The Rockets fall to 3-11 overall on the season and 3-3 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They will travel to Glidden on Thursday, October 6th when they take on Glidden Ralston.
