Audubon turned an early 2-0 deficit into a 20-8 lead at the end of the 1st quarter on their way to their third win of the season, keeping their hopes for a district title and a playoff berth alive. Coon Rapids Bayard lost Lance Clayburg on the opening kickoff and struggled to find their rhythm in the run game, falling for the second straight week, putting their playoffs hopes in jeopardy. The Wheelers found their run game on their second drive and didn’t look back. Coon Rapids Bayard had some success throwing the ball as Cal Heydon continues to develop into a go to player on offense.

Coon Rapids Bayard was forced to punt on their opening drive, pinning the Wheelers on their own 2-yard line. Cal Heydon was able to scoop up a low snap on the punt, making a really nice play to get the punt off with pressure coming at him. The Wheelers fumbled into their own end zone on their second play and Aaron Olsen was able to fall on it for the Wheelers, giving the Crusaders a safety. The Wheelers defense, which played well all game forced another punt for Coon Rapids Bayard after the kickoff and Aaron Olsen and the Audubon offense got things rolling. Olsen scored on a 27-yard run, putting the Wheelers ahead 8-2 with 7:16 left in the 1st quarter. Coon Rapids Bayard responded quickly, driving down the field, scoring on a 23-yard pass from Wyatt Oswald to Cal Heydon who went up and made a nice catch above the defender who had good position. The Crusaders tied the game at 8 with 4:03 left in the 1st quarter. Audubon responded again, Olsen broke off a 47-yard touchdown run on the Wheelers second play of the drive. A punt after a three play drive, gave the ball right back to Audubon and they used a little trickery to score at the end of the 1st quarter. Audubon came to the sideline with around 20 seconds left in the quarter. The Coon Rapids Bayard defense went to their sidelines and Audubon ran out on the field with 10 seconds left, got set and snapped the ball before the Crusader defense could respond. Olsen broke off another run, scoring from 43-yards, putting the Wheelers ahead 20-8. Coon Rapids Bayard opened the 2nd quarter with a punt, setting up the next Wheeler score. Aaron Olsen hit Manny Beisswenger on a 61-yard pass on the first play, Olsen scored on an 8-yard run on the next play and Audubon led 26-8 early in the 2nd quarter. The Crusaders struck late in the half when Wyatt Oswald found Cal Heydon for a 41-yard touchdown. The Crusaders were back in the game, down 26-16 with 3:46 left in the half. The Wheelers were set to get the ball to start the 2nd half so they had a big drive late in the half for both teams. Coon Rapids Bayard needed a stop so the Wheelers couldn’t extend the lead just before half. Audubon took 8 plays to drive down the field and scored on a 5-yard run by Aaron Olsen. The Wheelers led 34-16 at half.

They extended the lead to 40-16 on a 52-yard touchdown run by Manny Beisswenger to open the 3rd quarter. Audubon extended the lead with a block punt on the Crusaders next possession, setting them up at the Crusader 34-yard line. Evan Alt scored the first of his three 2nd half touchdowns on a 8-yard run. The lead had grown to 46-16 with 8:11 left in the 3rd quarter. Alt added a 20-yard run touchdown run and a 4-yard touchdown run on the Wheelers next two drives. Mixed in the middle was a 3-yard run by Raiden Doty for Coon Rapids Bayard. Colin Hartl scored on a 34-yard run for the Wheelers and Omarion Floyd scored on a 53-yard run for the Crusaders to finish the scoring.

Audubon ran for 454-yards on 46 carries, averaging 9.9 yards per attempt. They threw the ball only three times, completing all three for 82-yards. Coon Rapids Bayard threw for 168-yards and 2 touchdowns while running for 159-yards on 36 attempts.

Aaron Olsen went for 222-yards on 24 carries with 5 rushing touchdowns while completing all 3 of his pass attempts for 82-yards. Evan Alt had 11 carries for 99-yards and 3 touchdowns while Manny Beisswenger went for 84-yards on 4 carries with a touchdown and Colin Hartl added 1 carry for 34-yards and a touchdown. Manny Beisswenger had 1 catch for 61-yards.  Gavin Larsen had 10 tackles with 8 solo, Evan Alt finished with 8 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss. Manny Beisswenger added 7 tackles. Sawyer McClain-Toft recovered a fumble.

Wyatt Oswald was 9-17 throwing for 165-yards with 2 touchdowns passes. Omarion Floyd added 104-yards on 15 carries with a touchdown. Cal Heydon finished with 4 catches for 107-yards and 2 touchdowns. Heydon added 9 tackles with 8 of those solo. Tyler Mohr had 6.5 tackles.

The Wheelers improved to 3-4 overall and 3-1 in district play. They head to West Harrison on Friday. Coon Rapids Bayard falls to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in district play and will host CAM Anita on Friday.
