Carroll notched a huge come from behind road win at Ballard on Tuesday, coming back, down two sets to one to earn their first conference win of the season. The Tigers lost a late lead in set one, losing the set to fall behind but came out strong in set two, tying the match at a set apiece. Ballard dominated set three and appeared to have the momentum heading into set four but Carroll came out and forced a fifth set. They held the lead late and won the match on a kill by Katelyn Aden. The Tigers hit .086 at the net with two players in double figures with kills. Their back row was solid all night, finishing with 96 digs for a 19.2 dig per set average. The Tigers had five players in double figures in digs. Carroll was just as strong at the net on defense, finishing with 15 blocks. The all around performance was complete with six different players having an ace serve as the Tigers had 8 aces and served 93.9%.

Shay Sinnard led the Tigers with 14 kills, while Katelyn Aden added 13 kills, including the clinching kill in set 5. Madison Thornock and Camryn Schable chipped in with 7 kills each. Kaitlyn Tigges had a team high 29 assists and Riley Nagl added 12 assists. Madison Tunning paced the back row defense with 24 digs, followed by Shay Sinnard with 18, Riley Nagl 15, Kaitlyn Tigges with 14 and Ava Gross with 11. Camryn Schable and Olivia Rowedder nearly had half the teams blocks with Schable finishing with 4 and Rowedder with 3. Madison Thornock and Camryn Schable each had 2 aces.

Carroll improves to 7-12 overall and 1-3 in the Raccoon River Conference. They host Bondurant Farrar on Thursday.

Kuemper continues to impress with a sweep of Shenandoah at Atlantic on Tuesday. The Knights dominated the first two sets, winning 25-13 and 25-7. The Mustangs fought in the 3rd set but the Knights had too much at the end and pulled out a 25-22 win. They finished with 34 kills, with eight players having at least 1 kill. Kuemper was also solid at the net, finishing with 9 blocks spread between four players. Serving was a strength with seven players with at least one ace and 15 aces total. Six different players had a dig with the Knights finishing with 33 total.

Sophie Badding had team highs with 8 kills and 5 blocks. Ella Pick led the team with 5 aces. Lauren Boell and Kaci Peter both had 7 kills. Brianna Wittrock had 3 aces and a pair of blocks. Ashlyn Badding paced the setters with 20 assists while Macy Simons added 12 assists. Kaylie Simons led the team with 15 digs along with 3 aces. Brooke Rohe added 7 digs.

Kuemper completed their Hawkeye 10 Conference sweep knocking off one of the leagues preseason favorites. They swept Atlantic winning sets one and three 25-17 with set two a bit closer at 25-22. The win is the 12th straight for the Knights, improving them to 22-3 overall and 7-0 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference. Kuemper was again balanced at the net with six players collecting a kill and the team finishing with 41 kills. Those kills came on 41 assists as Kuemper passed the ball well, giving Ashlyn Badding and Macy Simons the ability to find their hitters. They collected 42 digs as a team with six players having at least 2 digs. The Knights finished with 11 blocks and 5 aces.

Ashlyn Badding had a team high 24 assists while Macy Simons finished with 17 assists. Sophie Badding again led the team with 13 kills while Aubrey Heuton had 9 kills, Frannie Glynn added 6 kills and Kaci Peter had 5 kills. Peter, Lauren Boell and Sophie Badding all had 3 blocks. Kaylie Simons led the Knights with 20 digs and 2 aces.

Glidden Ralston fell behind 3-0 in the first set, then responded with a 11-4 run to take control of the first set. The Crusaders battled early as the lead in set one changed 3 times and it was tied 5 times with the last at 7. Gracy Johnson had some strong serves to start the set, giving the Crusaders the early lead but back-to-back kills by Lauren Hulsing cut it to 3-2 and an ace by Summer Toms put Glidden Ralston ahead 4-3. The Crusaders grabbed the lead back at 6-5 but the Wildcats tied it at 6 and then took the lead for good at 7-6. They would build the lead to 22-12  before winning by 13.

Coon Rapids Bayard led 1-0 in set two and went ahead 6-1 before Glidden Ralston stormed back to tie the set at 6 and take the lead at 7-6. Coon Rapids Bayard was able to tie it at 7 but  the Wildcats rolled with 6 straight points before taking a commanding 12 point lead.

Gracy Johnson started set three with an ace to give the Crusaders the lead but Glidden Ralston took the lead at 4-3 and never trailed again. The Crusaders hung tough early, down 8-5 but Glidden Ralston was too strong and pulled away to win 25-13.

Lauren Hulsing had a team high 10 kills for Glidden Ralston while Paige Klocke had 8 kills and Addy Boell and Vanessa Koehler each had 7 kills. Boell added 21 assists and a pair of aces, Hulsing was dominant at the net with 4 blocks and was helped them take control in set 1. Paige Klocke had 4 aces and Vanessa Koehler finished with 3 blocks. Tiela Janssen continues her outstanding season with 21 digs while Summer Toms had 10 digs and Ashlynn Tigges had 8 digs.

Gracy Johnson led Coon Rapids Bayard with 10 digs and 7 assists. Malia Clayburg, Aubrey Hoffbauer and Lydia Hoffbauer all had 3 kills. Jayna Hoffman had a team high 2 blocks. Lacie Davis added 8 digs.

The Wildcats improved to 13-4 overall and 4-0 in the Rolling Valley Conference and will travel to Exira-EHK next Tuesday. Coon Rapids Bayard falls to 5-14 overall and 2-2 in the Rolling Valley. They will host Woodbine on Thursday.

The Audubon Wheelers hung on to win set one against Underwood, but were unable to keep their pace in the four set match Tuesday. 

The Wheelers came out and played well in set one, winning 26-24 against the Eagles. Audubon Head Coach Molly Lange says her team had nice passes and Mattie Nielsen took over at times. Nielsen has continued to gain more and more confidence in the front row as she recorded 24 kills to lead the team. Underwood came back in set two with a close 25-21 win. Audubon kept fighting in set three, but fell short again by a score of 25-19. Kylee Hartl had a solid night defensively, leading the team with 14 kills followed closely behind by Anna Larsen with nine digs. In the fourth set, Underwood had to battle again with a scrappy Audubon team and eventually came out on top by a score of 25-21, winning 3-1 in sets. 

The loss drops the Wheelers to 8-10 overall and 0-4 in the Western Iowa Conference. They close out their week with another WIC matchup with IKM-Manning at home on Thursday, September 22nd.

IKM-Manning was without their main setter against Treynor in a three-set match where they hung well in set one. 

Ella Richards took the place as the main setter for the Wolves and did an admirable job filling the role. IKM-Manning stayed alongside Treynor in set one but the Cardinals came out on top 25-17. Laura McCarville and Kylie Powers led the way for the Wolves offensively with three kills each. Powers added two aces on her night as well. Treynor kept their team rolling in sets two and three with a 25-14 and 25-10 victory to win the match 3-0 in sets. IKM-Manning Head Coach McKaylie Croghan says she was happy with the effort her team put in with the last minute changes to the lineup. Richards ended the night with 10 assists for the Wolves.

The Wolves finish their week of competition with a road game against Western Iowa Conference opponent Audubon on Thursday, September 22nd.

The Ar-We-Va Rockets were in a battle against Exira-EHK and were able to pick up win number two in a five set match Tuesday night. 

The Spartans started off the match going neck-and-neck with the Rockets and ended up winning the first set 26-24. Ar-We-Va had a nice response in sets two and three and got their offense working. Kora Obrecht and Maggie Ragaller had strong games overall. Obrecht finished with 12 kills and led the team with seven blocks while Ragaller had 11 kills and two aces. Delaney Schurke set the ball well for the team with 31 assists and led the team with three aces. The offensive surge from the Rockets gave them a 25-15 win in set two and 25-18 win in set three. In set four, Exira-EHK gained the momentum back and while Ar-We-Va tried to push back, the Spartans ended up with another close 26-24 win. In a determining set five, both teams went back and forth, and eventually, the Rockets were able to take home the 15-11 win and the 3-2 match win. 

The win elevates the Rockets to 2-9 overall on the season and 1-2 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They return to the court on Tuesday, September 27th with a road game against Paton Churdan.

Paton Churdan at CAM Anita

The Paton Churdan Rockets did a nice job of improving throughout their three set match against CAM Anita Tuesday night. 

The Cougars were able to get off to a very quick start and kept their pace in set one with a 25-5 win. Paton Churdan started to make some adjustments and were able to put up 11 points in the 25-11 loss in set two. Rockets Head Coach Makayla Sparr thought her girls made lots of adjustments throughout the match even and kept fighting against one of the top teams in the Rolling Valley Conference. Set three was by far the best set for Paton Churdan. CAM Anita was getting points off of tips to the doughnut and the Rockets adjusted well to their attacks. As the Rockets communicated more, they saw success as a team. Even though they fell in set three 25-19, the Rockets came away with bright spots for the rest of the season. 

The Rockets wrap up their week of competition with a road Rolling Valley Conference game against Exira-EHK on Thursday, September 22nd.
