Kuemper At CYO Tournament At Gehlen Catholic
It wasn’t easy but Kuemper claimed the CYO Tournament Championship, going 4-0 on the day in matches and 8-3 in sets. The Knights swept Bishop Garrigan, then had to battle back against Gehlen Catholic, St Mary’s Remsen and Bishop Heelan after dropping the first set in all three matches. Kuemper showed great poise and character in winning all three matches against good competition. They rallied to beat Gehlen 21-17, 15-10, dominated St Mary’s 21-8 in set 2 and won 15-11 in set 3. A heartbreaking 26-24 defeat in set 1 against Bishop Heelan ignited them in sets 2 and 3 as they won 21-16, 15-9. Kuemper had three players make the All-Tournament team, Ashlyn Badding Sophie Badding and Lauren Boell.
Sophie Badding led them with 37 kills and 9 blocks. Kaci Peter finished with 28 kills and 3 aces. Frannie Glynn and Aubrey Heuton each had 14 kills with Heuton adding 4 blocks and 8 aces. Lauren Boell finished with 13 kills. Ashlyn Badding had a team high 68 assists, Macy Simons finished with 47 assists and 4 aces. Kaylie Simons paced the back row with 43 digs followed by Brooke Rohe and Brianna Wittrock, who both had 15 digs.
Kuemper improved to 20-3 overall on the season and will travel to Atlantic on Tuesday for a triangular with Shenandoah.
