The IKM Wolves were holding on against Westwood Friday night, but in the second half the Rebels were able to stay ahead and keep their lead for the win.
Cooper Irlmeier got the offense for the Wolves fired up when he tumbled in the endzone for a rushing touchdown to lead 6-0. Westwood responded with a touchdown of their own and tied up the ball game at 6-6. Both teams did not see a lot of success with extra points or two point conversions. The fourth quarter featured the lone successful two points attempt by either team. Westwood also saw struggles with snapping the ball as IKM-Manning came away with four fumble recoveries. Both teams left the second quarter tied again at 12. Cooper Irlmeier once again found himself with a touchdown to keep the Wolves pumped up.
Westwood was able to win the third quarter as they got another touchdown and stayed ahead 18-12 going into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, Westwood struck first with a rushing touchdown from Jackson Dewald to give them the 26-12 lead. IKM-Manning had 4th and 16 with nine minutes to go at the 17 yard line, Kusel was chased down by some defenders, he scrammed until he fired it to Irlmeier who fought for the last five yards to score a touchdown and keep the Wolves in the game down 26-18. Westwood had another fumble in the fourth quarter that was grabbed by IKM-Manning for one last shot to cut down the Rebels’ lead further. With 4th and 2 at the 30 yard line, the Westwood defense came up with the stop and were able to come away with the 26-18 win.
The loss drops the Wolves to 0-2 on the season. They are on the road this week when they take on Woodbury Central.
