Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Mid Prairie Starts Fast and Holds on in Quarterfinals

Mid Prairie came out hot and then held on as Cascade scored a pair of runs in the 6th and had the tying run on 2nd base with no outs in the 7th. Collin Miller was outstanding on the hill and Cain Brown came in to clinch the win. Mid Prairie scored a pair of runs in the 2nd and 1 more in the 3rd and lead 3-0 into the 6th inning. They out hit Cascade 10-6 but only had 1 hit over the final 3 innings. Casade picked up 3 or their 6 hits in the final 2 innings.

Mid Prairie swung the bat well in the 1st inning and that paid off in the 2nd inning, getting 3 hits to score a pair of runs. Tyler Helmuth tripled to start the inning and scored on a sac bunt by Brock Harland. That came after Dylan Henry reached on an infield single. Collin Miller singled to score Henry, giving them a 2-0 lead going int the bottom 2nd. Harland made a nice throw on a steal attempt to end the 1st inning, then fielded a short chopper up the 3rd base side and threw the batter out at 1st to end the 2nd inning. The momentum stayed with Mid Prairie in the top 3rd. Cain Brown singled and stole 2nd. He moved to 3rd on a ground out by Karson Grout and scored on a single to right field by Alex Bean. Tyler Helmuth reached on an infield single over the pitcher’s mound, putting runners on 1st and 2nd base. Dylan Henry loaded the bases with a hit back up the middle. Jack Carr settled in a got a strikeout and ground out to end the threat, but Mid Prairie led 3-0 going to bottom 3rd.

Will Cavanagh picked up an infield single for Mid Prairie with one out in the 4th inning, then went 1st to 3rd on infield bunt single up the 3rd base line by Cain Brown who stole 2nd base. Cooper Hummel replaced Jack Carr on the hill and struck out both batters he faced to keep Cascade down 3-0.  Cascade finally got going in the 6th. It started with a walk to Tanner Simon who scored later on a wild pitch. Cade Raucsh reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a deep sac fly to left field by Cooper Hummel. Cascade had 2 hits in the inning, giving them 5 for the game and they pulled within 3-2, heading to the 7th.

Mid Prairie stranded an insurance run at 3rd in the top 7th, setting the tone for an exciting finish. Mason Otting walked, and Justin Roling reached on an infield bunt single. Roling was then picked off 1st base for the first out. Will Hosch flew out to centerfield with Otting still on 2nd base. Tanner Simon flew out to right to end the game as the 6th seed Golden Hawks topped the 3rd seen in Cascade 3-2.

Mid Prairie improves to 19-10 and will play ELC in the semifinals on Thursday at 4:30. Cascade ends their season at 20-6.
