Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: New London Advances with Win over CAM Anita on Monday

New London looked impressive in a convincing win over CAM Anita in the quarterfinals. They finished with 9 hits but used 10 walks and 3 hit-by-pitches to score in every inning on their way to the semifinals on Wednesday. They scored a run in the 1st, then blew it open with a 3-run double in the 2nd and led 5-0 after 2 innings, extending it to 8-1 after the 4th inning. CAM Anita had out hit New London for most of the game but finished with 6 hits.

Josh Catala walked to start the bottom 1st inning for New London, stole 2nd base and moved to 3rd on a wild pitch. Tucker Gibbar walked with 2 outs and took off to 2nd base, beating the throw from Lane Spieker the Cougar pitcher, scoring on the play was Catala and New London led 1-0 after the 1st inning. A 2-out error opened the flood gates in the 2nd inning as New London used 3 walks, an error, a single and a double to score 4 times, highlighted by a double from Dereck Santiago. They led CAM Anita 5-0 going top 3.

Lane Spieker walked with 1 out in the 3rd for CAM Antia and moved to 3rd base on an errant pickoff attempt. Joe Kaufman went to opposite way with a nice piece of hitting to score Spieker and CAM Anita pulled within 5-1.  New London responded in their half of the 3rd, getting a pair of hits and scoring Carter Allen on a wild pitch. New London opened it up in the bottom 4th, 3 walks and a hit-by-pitch extended the lead to 7-1. A dropped fly ball on an infield fly rule scord another run to make it 8-1.

CAM Anita bats came to life in the 5th inning. Seth Henlsey singled and moved to 3rd on a single by Colby Rich. They both scored on a base hit back up the middle by Joe Kaufman, cutting the deficit to 8-3. Those three hits moved them to 6 in the game and Dereck Santiago was relieved by Josh Catala.

New London came back, bottom 5th loading the bases with 1 out. Tucker Gibbnar hit one to deep left field, scoring a pair of runs, making it 11-3 with runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out. Cade Ticknor relieved Joe Kaufman and got the Cougars out of trouble. New London got a pair of walks to start the bottom of the 6th and scored a run on a double by Josh Catala, Seth Bailey was thrown out at 3rd on the play for the 2nd out. Catala moved to 3rd later in the inning when a third strike got away, allowing Kooper Schulte to take 1st base.

Josh Catala had a double and scored 3 times, Kooper Schulte drove in a pair of runs and scored 3 times. Dereck Santiago was tough on the mound, getting the win in 4 1/3 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs with 8 strikeouts. Seth Bailey finished with a pair of hits and scored twice for New London.

Seth Hensley and Joe Kaufman each had 2 hits to lead CAM Anita. Kaufman drove in 3-runs while Hensley scored a run. Colby Rich added a run scored a base hit.

New London improves to 29-1 and awaits the winner of the Newman Catholic and Lisbon game in the semifinals on Wednesday night at 7:00. CAM Anita ends their season at 27-3.
