Merchants scored first but dropped their fifth straight, falling to Clarinda 10-1. The A’s scored 7-runs in the 8th inning to blow open a tight game. Clarinda out hit the Merchants 12 to 5, picking up three extra base hits. Pete Weil had a good start for Carroll, going 6 innings, allowing 1 earned run and striking out 7. That kept Carroll into the game, until the A’s got to the bullpen. Both teams scored a run in the 1st inning, Clarinda added a pair of runs in the 7th inning, then 7 in the 8th.
Kaleb Freeman flied out to centerfield in the 1st inning, scoring Andrew Schroeder. Michael Alt led the Merchants with 2 hits, Parker Ingram, Jordan Matthewson and Brent Hokeness all had a hit and Hokeness walked twice. Kaleb Freeman had an RBI and Andrew Schroeder scored their only run.
The loss drops the Merchants to 16-17. They stay a 1/2 game ahead of Des Moines for 3rd place in the North Division. Carroll host St Joseph on Friday. The Peak knocked off St Joseph of Wednesday and will host Clarinda for a doubleheader on Saturday.
