Carroll At Harlan- Class 3A Sub-State 8
Harlan 2
Carroll 0
Carroll battled hard, allowing no earned runs, holding the Cyclones to 4 hits, had the tying run on base in the 7th inning but their season came to an end as they fell 2-0. Evan Loew set the tempo on the first at-bat of the game. Loew fell down 0-2, fouled off a a couple tough pitches and earned himself a walk. He didn’t score after Cooper Ludwig bunted him to 2nd base but that first at bat helped set the mood for the game. Harlan put a pair of runners on base in the 1st and 2nd inning but Ethan Loew struck out a batter with runners on 1st and 2nd base in the 1st inning, then got a pop up in foul territory to 1st base with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the 2nd inning. The game was scoreless heading into the 3rd inning and both teams were still looking for their 1st hit.
Harlan struck first in the 3rd inning, getting back-to-back singles to score a run. That run was helped by a couple of Carroll throwing errors. The Cyclones stranded six runners on base through 3 innings and 9 through 4 innings. Carroll had a chance to answer in the 4th inning. Ryan North lined a 1 out single to left field and moved to 2nd base on a wild pitch. Ethan Loew hit a looper that looked like it would drop in shallow left field but Joey Moser drifted back from shortstop, made a nice catch and an even better throw to pick North off at 2nd to end the Tiger threat. Harlan loaded the bases in the bottom 4th and used a Carroll error to score their second run of the game. Loew pitched out of trouble again, getting a pop up to Stone Sibenaller at 2nd base to end the inning with the bases loaded. Carroll didn’t threaten in the 5th or 6th inning but Harlan left a runner on base in both innings and the game went to the 7th inning still 2-0 in favor of Harlan. Ryan North singled for the second time in the game and moved to 2nd base on a base hit by Ethan Loew. Stone Sibenaller came up with two runners on but 2 outs. He grounded to 3rd base and Teagan Kasperbauer fielded the ball and stepped on 3rd base to end the game.
Ryan North had a team high 2 hits and Ethan Loew added a base hit. Evan Loew walked. Ethan Loew pitched 6 innings, allowing no earned runs with 5 strikeouts and 5 walks.
