Kaci Peter beat out an infield single in the bottom of the 7th with the game tied, stole 2nd and 3rd base and scored on a ground ball by Melinda Schaefer as Kuemper advances into the Regional Semifinals. The game was a battle with both teams finishing with 5 hits and having a one run lead at one point in the game. Earlham left 12 runners on base and Kuemper left 7 runners on base but put the ball in play late when they needed to. Kuemper had 5 players with a base hit in the game, scoring a run in the 1st, 3rd and 7th innings while Earlham scored in the 1st and 4th.

Earlham came out swinging the bat well, collecting a pair of  hits in the 1st inning, scoring Grace Porter who singled and stole 3rd base. Kuemper answered in their half of the 1st inning, with Hailey Ostrander singling to leadoff the inning. Melinda Schaefer had a sac bunt, reaching on an error but moving Ostrander to 3rd base. Jordan Schwabe hit a fly ball to centerfield and Ostrander scored after the throw home squeezed away from the catcher. The Knights took the lead in the 3rd when Melinda Schaefer singled with 2 outs, moved to 2nd on a single by Jordan Schwabe and scored on a single by Kenzie Schon. Earlham took advantage of a pair of walks and an error in the top of the 4th to tie the game at 2. They nearly took the lead in the 7th, with a runner on 3rd and 2 outs, they grounded over to Alexis Diercksen at 3rd who threw the batter out at 1st by inches with the runner coming across the plate. The play by Diercksen kept the run from scoring and Kuemper came up tied at 2. Kaci Peter hit a ball up the middle and used her speed to beat out an infield single. She stole 2nd base, then stole 3rd with 1 out. Melinda Schaefer knew she had to hit the ball to the right side and punched a ball towards 1st base, scoring Peter with the game winner.

Hailey Ostrander, Melinda Schaefer, Jordan Schwabe, Kenzie Schon and Kaci Peter all singled for Kuemper. Schaefer and Schon both drove in a run. Ostrander, Schaefer and Peter scored their runs. Kamryn Venner got the win, going 7 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 2.

The Knights improve to 22-15 and will travel to West Central Valley on Friday on 93.7 KKRL.

Boyer Valley At Coon Rapids Bayard- Class 1A Region 2

It was a tough night for Coon Rapids Bayard as they weren’t able to top Boyer Valley for the third time this season. The Crusaders scored early with Anna Hart hitting a ground ball that scored Emma Hart, who had reached on an error. The Crusaders finished with 3  hits on the night, struggling to get their bats going. The defense made a few errors, giving up 5 unearned runs as Boyer Valley scored 3 times in the 3rd and 4th innings then added 5-runs in the 6th. They held the Crusaders in the bottom of the 6th, ending the game in 6 innings.

Kadey Olson, Malia Clayburg and Bridget Shirbroun each had a hit for the Crusaders. Emma Hart scored their lone run and Anna Hart drove in their run. Lacie Davis and Miranda McClellan both reached base.

The Crusaders wrapped up the season 13-12.

Audubon threatened in the 1st inning with a pair of runners on base but they weren’t able to score. They didn’t advance a runner past 2nd base again until the 5th inning when Mattie Nielsen reached on an error and was stranded at 2nd base. Defensively they were sharp and got a really good pitching performance from Kali Irlmeier but the Wheelers lost 2-0 on the road as Woodbine scored a run in the 1st and added a run in the 5th inning.

Hannah Thygesen walked, stole 2nd base and moved to 3rd base on a wild pitch in the 1st inning. Kylie Hartl was hit-by-pitch in the 1st and moved to 2nd base but both runners were stranded. The Wheelers finished with 1 hit , from Michelle Brooks in the 4th inning. Kali Irlmeier went 5 innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run with 10 strikeouts but got the loss.

The Wheelers finished the season 12-14.

East Sac battled hard and nearly rallied back, after allowing 4-runs in the 2nd inning, pulling within 6-5 in the 6th inning. They fell short of their comeback attempt, ending their season at 5-13. East Sac took a 2-1 lead in the 2nd inning  when Emersyn Mack walked with the bases loaded, then Mary Bontrager had a base hit to score a run. The Rams responded in their half of the 2nd with 4-runs on a grand slam home run by Brylei Clausen. The Raiders began to chip away in the 3rd, Maci Gustavson doubled, scoring Kami Ross. They added a run in the 4th with Gracie Snyder walking and coming in to score one of her two runs in the game. The Raiders were down 5-4, but the Rams added a run in the bottom half of the 4th. Snyder walked again  in the 6th, scoring on a single by Kami Ross. The Raiders had a chance in the 6th down 6-5 but left two runners on base. MVAOCOU added a run in the bottom 6th and led 7-5. Jamie Pierce walked in the top of the 7th but East Sac couldn’t score and they fell 7-5.

Mary Bontrager had 3 of the Raiders 5  hits. She added an RBI. Maci Gustavson doubled and Kami Ross added an RBI single for their other hits. Emersyn Mack and Ross each drove in a run while Gracie Snyder walked 3 times and scored twice. Anna McCollough and Jen Aschinger both scored.
