Treynor at Audubon
Treynor 10
Audubon 9
The Audubon Wheelers were leading by one score heading into the seventh inning against a very good Treynor squad, but the Cardinals were able to come up with a late run to steal the win.
Audubon was able to get up early and grab a 3-1 lead thanks in part to a Jordan Porsch two-RBI single and Michelle Brooks being brought home off a bases loaded walk. Treynor was able to respond with two runs of their own in the third inning to tie up the game momentarily at 3-3. The Wheelers broke the tie and brough in two runners to take the lead back at 5-3. Kylee Hartl knocked a double and reached third base off a wild pitch. She was later brought in by Addie Hocker who hit an RBI single, and then Hocker was brought home thanks to an RBI single from Jordan Mulford.
Treynor continued to find answers offensively for Audubon’s runs as they put up four more runs in the fourth inning to take their first lead of the game at 7-5. Audubon had two rough innings in the fourth and fifth, only getting Hocker to first base in the fifth where she was later tagged out on a fielder’s choice. The Cardinals added to their lead again with a run in the sixth to lead 8-5. Audubon finally had a comeback for Treynor with four runs scored in the sixth to take the lead again at 9-8. Hannah Thygesen scored off an RBI double from Porsch, Porsch was scored off an RBI single from Kali Irlmeier, and Hartl brought herself and Irlmeier home with a two-run homer. The excitement of the lead quickly faded again at Treynor continued to be a pest and put up another two-run to take the lead at 10-9. Audubon’s last chance in the seventh inning started off well with Alexis Obermeier getting to second and Mattie Nielsen knocking a single. But, with a strikeout, and two flyouts to the third baseman, the Treynor Cardinals were victorious by a final score of 10-9.
The loss dropped the Wheelers to 7-11 overall on the season and 3-9 in the Western Iowa Conference. They will continue their busy week with another conference game on Thursday, June 23rd when they host IKM-Manning.
