Audubon and Coon Raids Bayard At AC-GC/Audubon Tournament

Wheeler Head Coach Eric Borkowski picked up career victory 100 in style as his team used two big innings and  great pitching performance to dominate their opening game of the tournament. Audubon scored 7 times in the 1st inning them put the away in the 6th with 13-runs. The Wheelers collected 15 hits, allowing on 6 hits with four players having more than one hit and Mattie Nielsen hitting a home run.

Victoria Asmus singled to drive in a pair of runs in the 1st inning, before Jordan Mulford singled to score two more. That set the stage for Mattie Nielsen, who homered to center field putting the Wheelers ahead 7-0. They added a pair of runs in the 2nd inning, then didn’t score again until the 6th. Addie Hocker singled to score Kylie Hartl with the first run of the inning, Hartl singled later in the inning, scoring a pair of runs. Hannah Thygesen wrapped up the scoring later in the inning with a hard single to left field, scoring Jordan Mulford and Mattie Nielsen for the 12th and 13th run of the inning.

Kylee Hartl and Alexis Obermeir both had 3  hits with Hartl scoring 4-runs and Obermeier driving in a pair of runs. Jordan Mulford and Mattie Nielsen had 2 hits each. Nielsen had a home run and 3 RBI while Mulford added 5 RBI. Kali Irlmeier went the distance, getting the win, allowing 6 hits and 1 earned run with 11 strikeouts.

Coon Rapids Bayard rallied late to reach the semifinals of the tournament, scoring 3-runs in the bottom 6th and 7th innings to earn the win. They entered the bottom 6th, down 5-0 after the Chargers scored 3 times in the top 6th. The Crusaders cut the deficit in half in the 6th, then got a runner to 3rd in the 7th and singled the wining run in.

Kadey Olson and Malia Clayburg both had 2 hits, with Clayburg tripling and driving in a pair of runs and Olson driving in a pair of runs and scoring twice. Emma Hart got the win, going all 7 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits with 5 strikeouts.

The bats went quite for Audubon in the semifinals, getting only three hits, with Michelle Brooks hitting a home run. They scored first in the 2nd inning as Addie Hocker scored on a passed ball after walking on 4 pitches. She moved to 2nd base on a Michelle Brooks sacrifice, then to on a wild pitch. Brooks homered in the 4th to put them up 2-0, but they didn’t score the rest of the game. The Rams rallied with a pair of runs in the 4th inning to tie it, then grabbed the lead with 2 more in the 5th and 4-runs in the 6th.

Michelle Brooks home run was one of the teams 3 hits. Victoria Asmus and Mattie Nielsen each had a hit. Addie Hocker and Brooks scored a run each. Alexis Obermeier took the loss, going 6 innings, with 9 strikouts and 3 earned runs.

Coon Rapids Bayard trailed most of the game, before rallying to tie the game with 6-runs in the bottom 4th but Treynor scored in the top 5th and held the Crusaders scoreless in the bottom half, ending the game due to time limits. The Crusaders finished with 8 hits, highlighted by a double from Malia Clayburg. They allowed just 5 hits but gave up 5 unearned runs. Treynor scored 5 times in the 1st inning, then added 3 in the 2nd inning to build the early lead. The Crusaders answered in the 3rd inning with 4-runs, then scored 6 in the 4th to tie the game.

Malia Clayburg led the offense with 2 hits and a double. Emma Hart, Anna Hart, Breeley Clayburg, Miranda McClellan, Kadey Olson and Aubrey Hofbauer all had a hit. Emma Hart, Breeley Clayburg, Kadey Olson and Anna Hart all scored twice, Miranda McClellan drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. Aubrey Hofbauer and Brooklyn Burmeister both drove in a run.

An 8-run 3rd inning helped Audubon knock off Coon Rapids Bayard for the second time this season and take 3rd at the tournament on Saturday. The Crusaders out hit the Wheelers 9-7 but the Wheelers used 4 unearned runs, 8 walks and 3-hit-by-pitch to take control of the game. The Wheelers went ahead 1-0 in the 2nd inning, then scored 8 times in the 3rd. Coon Rapids Bayard tried to battle bac, scoring 3 in the 4th and 2 more in the 5th but the game ended due to time limits.

Michelle Brooks scored on a wild pitch for the first run of the game in the 2nd inning, but that was just the beginning for Audubon. They had scored two runs in an error and a ground out by Addie Hocker in the 3rd, then Victoria Asmus singled to score Kylee Hartl. Mattie Nielsen drove in another run with a single to right field. Jordan Porsch walked and Kali Irlmeier singled to score two more runs. Jordan Porsch scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Anna Hart homered for Coon Rapids Bayard in the  bottom 4th inning to jump start the Crusader offense. Kadey Olson reached on an error, scoring Breeley Clayburg scored on an error on a ground ball and Miranda McClellan scored the final run of the 4th inning for Coon Rapids Bayard on a ground ball by Bridget Shirbroun.

Jordan Porsch, Kali Irlmeier, Addie Hocker, Michelle Brooks, Victoria Asmus, Alexis Obermeier and Mattie Nielsen all had base hits for the Wheelers. Irlmeier and Obermeier each had a pair of RBI. Addie Hocker doubled and Jordan Porsch scored 3 times. Kali Irlmeier earned the win, going 4 innings, allowing 5 hits and 3 earned runs.

Breeley Clayburg had 3 of the Crusaders 9 hits with Anna Hart hitting a solo home run. Lacie Davis, Anna Hart, Breeley Clayburg, Kadey Olson and Bridget Shirbroun all had RBI.

The Wheelers went 2-1 on the day, improving to 7-9. They head to Missouri Valley on Monday. Coon Rapids Bayard ended the day 1-2, falling to 9-7 overall and will host Ar-We-Va on Monday.
