Carroll At Kuemper

Kuemper won an odd game Tuesday, picking up their second win of the season and avenging a loss to the Tigers Saturday at the Ogden Tournament. Kuemper led 10-0 after 3 innings but saw their lead cut to 12-10 in the 5th inning. Carroll didn’t quit and battled hard to get back into the game, but Kuemper found answers every time Carroll made a run. Both teams used two pitchers, and both teams had over 15 hits. Carroll out hit the Knights 16-15 but the Knights took advantage of five walks and two hit-by-pitches. Kamryn Venner and Chloe Venteicher combined to walk 2 batters.

It was all Kuemper early, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Kenzie Schon reached on an error. She scored on the Tigers second error of the inning. They pushed the lead to 10-0 with 9-runs in the 3rd inning. Kuemper started the inning with a hit-by-pitch, error, walk, walk and a sac fly. Kamryn Venner singled to drive in a  run, followed by the big hit of the inning from Kaylie Diercksen, who doubled, driving in 2-runs. Alexis Diercksen singled and Kaci Peter added a single to score a run. Jordan Schwabe drove in the final two runs with a double.

Carroll got going in the 4th inning, scoring 3 times. Vanessa Ayala opened the inning with a walk, followed by an Averi Burke single and an error off the bat of Parker Adams. Makalei Kofron singled to drive in a pair of runs and Brenna Goins sac bunt scored another run but Carroll had a runner thrown out at the plate to end the inning. Kuemper responded with a pair of runs in the 4th to lead 12-3. Carroll pulled within two, scoring 7-runs in the 5th. Ava Gross jumped started the rally with a leadoff triple, Brielle Hinners singled, followed by a Camryn Schable triple. Parker Adams reached on an error (Kuemper had 4 errors in the inning), Makalei Kofron reached on an error, Emma Kuhlman doubled, driving in another run, followed by triples from Alyssa Brant and Gross.

Kuemper again responded in the 5th inning with Melinda Schaefer singling to start the inning, followed by singles from Jordan Schwabe, Kenzie Schon and Kenadee Loew. Schwabe scored on a wild pitch to make it 13-10. The Knights put the game away with a 3-run 6th inning with Jordan Schwabe picking up her second double of the game.

Jordan Schwabe and Kenadee Loew both went 3-4 for Kuemper with 3 RBI each, Kaylie Diercksen added a pair of hits and 5 RBI. Kaci Peter added a pair of hits.

Ava Gross had a pair of triples with 3 hits total for Carroll. Makalei Kofron added 3 hits and a team high 2 RBI. Camryn Schable, Parker Adams and Alyssa Brant all had 2 hits, with Schable doubling twice and Brant hitting a triple.

Kuemper improves to 2-4 and hosts Ogden on Wednesday. Carroll falls to 3-4 and will host Bondurant Farrar on Wednesday.

Coon Rapids Bayard scored 14-runs on just 6 hits and got another terrific pitching performance from Emma Hart in a win over Ar-We-Va on Tuesday. The Rockets finished with 1 hit in dropping their third game of the season. Coon Rapids Bayard scored runs in each of their 4 innings, scoring three in the 1st and 2nd innings before putting a four spot on the board in both the 3rd and 4th inning. Ar-We-Va scored their lone run in the 1st inning.

Miranda McClellan and Breeley Clayburg each had a pair of hits for Coon Rapids Bayard with McClellan driving in 3-runs and Clayburg having a pair of RBI. Bridget Shirbroun scored 3 times while Lacie Davis, McClellan and Lydia Hofbauer all scored twice. Emma Hart got the win, pitching 4 innings, allowing 1 hit and 1 unearned run.

Jamie Hausman singled for the Rockets and Maggie Ragaller scored their run after reaching on an error.

The Crusaders improved to overall and in the Rolling Valley. They head to Whiting on Whiting on Wednesday. Ar-We-Va drops to 0-3 and will travel to Woodbine on Wednesday.

Glidden Ralston scored four runs in each of the first-two innings as they improved to 2-1 on the season with a 5 inning win at home. Vanessa Koehler was outstanding in the circle, striking out 12 batters and finished with a inside the park home run and a double at the plate. The Wildcats finished with 9 hits with Koehler having 3 and Ashlynn Tigges finishing with 2 hits, 2 RBI and scoring twice. Kassidy Wenck continued her good start to the season with a pair of hits and Elizabeth Lloyd had a hit and RBI.

Glidden Ralston is 2-1 overall and in the Rolling Valley Conference and will travel to Exira-EHK on Wednesday.

A 4-run 3rd inning blew open a close game as the Wheelers shutout Underwood on their way to their second win of the season. Kali Irlmeier was outstanding in the circle, allowing 4 hits and no runs. The Wheelers finished in double-digits in hits with 10 and had four different players drive in a run. Addie Hocker, Alexis Obermeier and Michelle Brooks all had an RBI in the key 3rd inning.

Irlmeier wasn’t just good in the circle where she went all 7 innings with 5 strikeouts.  She picked up 3 hits with a pair of doubles at the plate and scored twice. Kylee Hartl added a double with 2 hits and scored twice, Michelle Brooks had 2 hits and an RBI. Victoria Asmus scored a pair of runs.

Audubon sits 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Western Iowa Conference. They host Coon Rapids Bayard on Thursday.

Missouri Valley At IKM-Manning

IKM-Manning hung close into the middle part of the game, but weren’t able to get their offense on track and Missouri Valley was able to end the game with a solo run in the top of the 6th inning and holding the Wolves in the bottom half. The Big Red scored twice in the 4th inning, then opened their lead with a 4-run 5th inning to lead 9-0.

Taylor Beckendorf had the lone  hit for IKM-Manning and stole a base. Jessica Christensen and Ella Richard walked and Carlee Neil was hit-by-pitch.

The loss drops the Wolves to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the Western Iowa Conference. They travel to Riverside on Thursday.
