Kuemper held on to beat Coon Rapids Bayard after building a 5-0 lead. The Crusaders rallied with 3-runs in the 7th inning and had the bases loaded with 1 out before Logan Sibenaller struck out the last two batters to end the game. The win improves Kuemper to 4-1 as they have won 4 straight. Coon Rapids Bayard suffered their first loss of the season, slipping to 2-1.

This game lived up to the buildup, two very good teams squared off with Kuemper outlasting the Crusaders. Coon Rapids Bayard had a chance early with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the 1st inning and two runners on with one out in the 2nd inning. Those missed opportunities came back to hurt them late as they didn’t score until the 6th inning. Kuemper took advantage of their chances early. After missing a chance with four guys reaching base in the 2nd inning. Kuemper struck first in the 3rd inning. Logan Sibenaller singled, then stole 2nd and 3rd. He scored on an RBI single by Cal Wanninger. Wanninger scored their second run on a base hit by Trevor Rial. The Knights added a run in the 4th when Benicio Lujano singled and scored on a wild pitch. Some rare miscues by the Crusaders defense allowed Kuemper to score twice in the 5th. The Crusaders got on the board in the 6th inning when Preston McAlister reached on a fielders choice. Wyatt Oswald came in to run for him and scored on a passed ball. That set the stage for the 7th. Easton Hays led off the inning with a single, Kolby Culbertson walked and Lance Clayburg singled, scoring Hays. Preston McAlister singled to load the bases with 1 out.  A walk to Tanner Oswald made it 5-3 and kept the bases loaded with 1 out. Cal Heydon drop in a base  hit to score Clayburg and Coon Rapids Bayard  had the tying run on 3rd and lead run on 2nd with 1 out. Logan Sibenaller settled in and struck out the next two batters to end the game.

Trevor Rial and Max Irlmeier each had 2 hits for Kuemper. Rial added a pair of RBI. Cal Wanninger scored twice. Tate Bieret made his first start on the hill, going 4 innings, allowing 3 hits and no runs.

Gabe Obert and Cal Heydon had two hits each for Coon Rapids Bayard with Obert hitting a double. Lance Clayburg scored a run and added an RBI. Clayburg pitched 3 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits.

The Knights host Underwood on June 1st. Coon Rapids Bayard heads to Boyer Valley on Friday.

Carroll At North Polk

North Polk exploded for 10 runs in the 3rd inning on their way to a 15-0, 4 inning win over Carroll. The loss drops Carroll to 0-4 on the season. Sterling Rodman earned a walk in the 4th inning for the Tigers only base runner. North Polk scored 3 times in the 1st inning, added a run in the 2nd and then scored 10 in the 3rd.

The Tigers host Woodward Granger on Friday.

Audubon picked up 10 hits and scored in every inning on their way to a 10-0, 5 inning win at home on Thursday. The Wheelers improved to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Western Iowa Conference. Gavin Smith was outstanding on the hill, holding Riverside to 3  hits. The Wheelers scored twice in the 1st inning, adding a run in the 2nd and 3rd inning. They put the game away with 3-runs in the 4th and 5th innings.

Evan Alt, Braden Wessel and Gavin Smith all had 2 hits with Smith hitting a home run. Alt and Smith drove in 3-runs each and Alt and Wessel both scored twice. Gavin Larsen drove in a pair of runs. Smith picked up the win going all 5 innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 8.

The Wheelers travel to Treynor on Friday.

Boyer Valley At IKM-Manning

The Wolves used a 4-run 2nd inning to take charge while picking up their first win of the season. They took advantage of four walks in the inning with Kaiden Barry singling and Jace Starman driving in a run on a sacrifice. The Wolves did a nice job keeping pressure on the Bulldogs defense. The offense put the ball in play, working on moving runners on the base paths.

Boyer Valley struck first with a pair of runs in the 1st inning but IKM-Manning scored a run in the bottom half, before taking the lead for good with the 4-run 2nd inning. Boyer Valley cut it to 5-3 in the 6th but again the Wolves answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half. The Bulldogs tried to rally in the 7th but IKM-Manning induced a fly ball to left field to end the game.

Kaiden Barry led the Wolves with 2 of their 3 hits. Brody Blom had the other hit. Barry scored twice. IKM-Manning was patient at the plate, earning 7 walks. Max Nielsen picked up the win, going 6 innings, allowing 2 earned runs with 8 strikeouts.

IKM-Manning is 1-1 overall and heads to Tri Center on Friday.
