Boys Class 2A State Golf Tournament- At Coldwater
Maverick Schwabe of Kuemper wrapped up a tremendous season with a 7th place finish at the Class 2A State Golf meet held at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames. Schwabe entered Tuesday in a tie for 6th place, having shot a 74 on Monday. Tuesday he wrapped up the meet with a 76 shooting 39-37. Schwabe shot par on the first two holes on Tuesday on the front 9 before bogeying on hole 3. He battled back with a par on 4 and then bogey on the par 3 5th. As he’s done all season he fought through and birdied hole 6 but followed it up with bogeys on holes 7 and 9 with a par on 8.
The back 9 went well for Schwabe with 8 pars along with a double bogey on hole 13. The sophomore tied with Ashton Martens of Grundy Center and Leo Klapperich of Osage at 8 over par with a 150. Axton Miller of OA-BCIG was the individual state champion, shooting a 145, 3 over to win by 1 stroke over Luke Harwick of Beckman Catholic.
Maverick Schwabe 74 on Monday, 76 on Tuesday for a 150 and tie for 7th place.
