Carroll hurt themselves as they fall to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in the Raccoon River Conference. Carroll had more hits than Gilbert but gave up 1  earned run, due to 5 errors, 7 walks and 2 hit-batters. They still had a chance late, tying the game at 3 in the bottom of the 5th but a throwing error on a pick off attempt at 1st base in the top 6th put Gilbert back up by 2. Carroll was only able to get one runner on base in the last two innings.

Gilbert scored a run in the 1st inning on an error after the leadoff batter, Eli Eldred got on base due to being hit-by-a-pitch. They added a pair of runs in the 2nd inning as Gilbert picked up a pair of hits but scored their two runs on a passed ball and an error. Carroll responded in the 2nd inning with Ethan Loew walking, then scoring on a wild pitch. The game stayed 3-1 in favor of Gilbert until the 5th. Connor Slagle got a leadoff walk, Cooper Ludwig singled and stole 2nd base. Chase Ragaller, who came in to run for Slagle scored on an error that moved Ludwig to 3rd. Ludwig tied the game at 3 on an infield single by Sterling Rodman. Carroll had a chance to take the lead but had a runner thrown out at home to end the inning. Gilbert answered the Carroll inning with a pair of unearned runs in the top 6th.

Sterling Rodman had a pair of hits, including a double and RBI. Cooper Ludwig picked up a base hit and scored once. Ethan Loew, Evan Loew and Dreylen Schweitzer all had a hit with Ethan scoring a run.

The Tigers head to Denison Schleswig on Tuesday, before hosting ADM on Wednesday and traveling to North Polk on Thursday.

Kuemper scored 17 straight runs after falling behind 2-0 to win in 4 innings on Monday. The win improved the Knights to 2-1 on the season.  A 9-run 2nd inning put the Knights in solid control of the game. It started with John Boes walking, followed by a walk by Max Irlmeier, an RBI single from Benicio Lujano, a single by Cooper Pottebaum, a 2 RBI single by Carter Putney, Koby Lampman reached on an error and Cal Wanninger doubled, driving in a pair of runs. John Boes doubled, Max Irlmeier reached on an error, Benicio Lujano had his second RBI single of the inning. The Knights batted 14 guys in the inning. They blew the game open in the 2nd inning, but put it away in the 3rd, scoring another 3-runs. Their 5-run 4th inning clinched the early victory. The 4th was highlighted by a 2 RBI single by Cooper Pottebaum. The Knights finished with 12 hits and 12 RBI. They were aggressive on the base paths with 7 stolen bases.

Carter Putney threw a complete game, 4 innings for the victory. He allowed 2-runs on 1 hit while striking out 4 and walking 3. Logan Sibenaller had a pair of hits and scored twice to go with 4 stolen bases. Cal Wanninger had a double, driving in 3 runs and scoring a run. John Boes had a pair of hits, including a double. Boes drove in a run and scored twice. Benicio Lujano had a pair of hits, drove in 3-runs and scored twice and Cooper Pottebaum had 2 hits, 2 RBI and scored once. Carter Putney picked up the win on the hill but added a pair of  hits, along with 3 RBI as the plate.

Kuemper will host Treynor on Tuesday.

Ar-We-Va got a great pitching performance from Cooper Kock who kept them in the game until late. The Rockets trailed 2-0 heading into the 7th inning and hadn’t allowed a run since the 1st inning. Problem for the Rockets was at the plate, where they didn’t get a hit, having 3 baserunners during the game, with Cooper Kock walking twice and Timothy Dose getting on by hit-by-pitch. The Cougars put the game away with a 4-run top of the 7th inning.

Ar-We-Va falls in their season opener and will travel to South Central Calhoun on Tuesday.

Audubon had a pair of triples and got a terrific pitching performance from Braden Wessel and Gavin Larsen but fell late to Earlham. The Cardinals scored 3 runs in the 4th inning, then put the game away with 3 more in the 7th. The Wheelers scored 1st, pushing a run across the board in the 1st inning. They would not score again until the 5th but trailed 3-2 heading into the 6th.

Gavin Smith and Evan Alt both tripled but the Wheelers were held to 4 hits with Aaron Olsen picking up the other two hits. Alt and Smith had RBI for the Wheelers, scoring Aaron Olsen and Alt scored as well. Braden Wessel takes the loss but gave up no hits in 3 innings on the hill. He allowed 3 runs, all earned while striking out 6. Gavin Larsen pitched 3 innings, allowing 3 hits and an earned run.

The loss drops Audubon to  1-1 on the season. They host AHSTW on Tuesday.

Coon Rapids Bayard improved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the Rolling Valley Conference, getting a solid pitching performance and enough offense to win. Easton Hays and Kolby Culbertson combined on the hill to go 6 innings, giving up 2 hits while striking out 8 and walking 3. They offense came from Culbertson, Lance Clayburg and Gabe Obert. Obert hit a solo home run while Clayburg and Culbertson each had a pair of singles and drove in 2 runs each.

The Crusaders are back in action on Wednesday when they host AC-GC.

Both teams bats heated up late in the game as the teams combined for 25 runs over the final 2 1/2 innings. The Wildcats rallied from down 6-1 to take a 9-6 lead with an 8-run top of the 6th. South Central Calhoun, who scored 5 in the 5th to break open a 1-1 game, came right back in the bottom 6th to score 7 runs, going back up 13-9. The Wildcats weren’t through fighting. They loaded the bases with 1 out on walks by Mark Lensch, Jackson Sklenar and Tyler Brant. Caden Wenck drove in Lensch on a fielders choice, Ethan Olberding singled, scoring Sklenar, then Colby Wallace hit a shot to 3rd base, scoring Wenck and leading to a throwing error on the Titans, scoring Ethan Olberding. The 4-run 7th inning, tied the game at 13. South Central Calhoun came up clutch in the 7th, scoring on a blooper to left field that scored the game ending run.

Kaden Dorman and Andrew Anderson both had 3 hits for the Titans. Dorman drove in 3 RBI and Anderson added 2 RBI while scoring 3 times. Charlie Nattress had a pair of hits and Jayden Soard drove in a pair of runs, adding 4 stolen bases and scoring twice.

Glidden Ralston got a pair of hits from March Lensch and Colby Wallace. Waylon Hein drove in a pair of runs while Jonathan Burgmeier, Mark Lensch, Caden Wenck and Ethan Olberding all scored twice. The Wildcats finished with 11 walks.

South Central Calhoun opens the season 1-0 and will host Ar-We-Va on Tuesday. Glidden Ralston falls to 0-3 and will entertain Boyer Valley on Wednesday.

IKM-Manning picked up a pair of hits in a 4 inning loss Monday afternoon in a game that was scheduled to be played in Underwood on Tuesday but was rescheduled for Monday afternoon in Manilla. The Eagles scored 6 runs in the 1st inning, then built their lead to 12 with a 6-run 3rd inning. They added 4 more in the 4th to end the game.

Treyton Barry and Cooper Perdew both singled for IKM-Manning. The Wolves start the season 0-1 and will host Boyer Valley on Thursday.
