Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Carroll Falls in Season Opener That Goes 9 Innings

Missed opportunities hindered the Tigers late as they fall in extra innings in their season opener. Carroll rallied down by 2 in the top 7th to tie the game on a dropped third strike and throwing error on the Rams, sending the game to extra innings. Carroll had runners on base in scoring position in both the 8th and 9th inning but didn’t get the timely hit. Dreylen Schweitzer was on 3rd with no outs in the 8th and Carroll had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out in the 9th and didn’t score.  Greene County was able to take advantage of several infield singles while the Tigers hit the ball hard but at the defense.

Sterling Rodman drove in the 1st run of the game on an RBI single in the 1st but Greene County grabbed the lead with a pair of runs in the 2nd inning. The Tigers responded in the 4th with RBI by Connor Slagle and Evan Loew. Again they weren’t able to maintain the lead and Greene County scored 4 times in the 4th inning. They would never trail again, though Carroll scored Cooper Ludwig on  a passed ball and Mason Vought on a throwing error in the top 7th inning tying the game. Carroll pulled within 6-5 on a 2 RBI hit from Ryan North in the 6 innings.

After threatening in the top 8th and 9th innings Greene County scored the winning run on a walk off single to right field.

The loss starts the Tigers at 0-1 as they host Fort Dodge on Friday.
