Kierstin Morrow-South Central Calhoun High School
Kiertstin Morrow from South Central Calhoun High School is the first Wittrock Motor Company Student/Athlete Spotlight. Here is the nomination letter that we received from Mark Schaefer AD/Teacher at South Central Calhoun: Kierstin was one of the 2 seniors on volleyball team. She is ranked 3rd in her class with a 3.939 GPA. When we had the COVID year in 2020 and were out of school at the end of the 3rd quarter, our administration told the teachers to give the kids the grade that they had at the end of the 3rd quarter as their semester grade as well. Of course Kierstin was getting an “A+”. That was during her sophomore year in Anatomy and Physiology I. When we were back in classes (face to face) at the start of her junior year, she asked if she could arrange her schedule so that she had a study hall during one of my Anatomy I classes during the 4th quarter of her junior year. I asked her why, and she said that “she wanted to come into my Anatomy I class during the 4th quarter and learn all the information that she missed and make up the work that she missed.” I told her “Kierstin you realize that you’ve already gotten credit for that class and you don’t have to do all that extra work and studying for the tests and you’re not going to get another credit for that class, right?” She said “I know that, but I’m going to need to know this stuff for what I am going into as a career.” So she did the whole 4th quarter of work and tests for no credit and still did “A+” work. That is probably one of the most extraordinary things I’ve ever seen a kid do in all my years as a teacher. I told her mom at Parent-Teacher Conferences that what she did was the equivalent of somebody showing up for work for 2 months without being paid. I asked her mom, who works in Human Resources, how many people do you think would show up for work if they weren’t going to be paid? She said that is easy, NONE! That is how extraordinary and mature Kierstin is. On top of that attitude, she regularly helps other kids in my class that need help. She was also picked as a D.A.R.E. role model as well. She is a wonderful and super pleasant kid. She was given the “Most Inspirational Player Award” on our volleyball team for those types of actions.
