Boys Soccer Results for Tuesday, May 10th

North Polk at Carroll

North Polk 8

Carroll 1

With minimal winds and hot temperatures, the Carroll Tigers played host to North Polk on Tuesday’s senior night in a losing effort. The Tigers were first on the board in the first half as senior Clayton Weitl got an unassisted goal at the 35:50 mark. North Polk’s Tait Heppler was able to get past the Carroll defenders on the right side of the pitch to score a corner goal to tie up the match at 1-1 with 32:38 left in the first half. Carroll’s defense was later able to block a corner kick from North Polk with a solid defensive wall, but that wall was broken down when Seth Sparks was able to get a similar goal to the bottom left corner to give the Comets a 2-1 lead. North Polk continued to keep the momentum and scored another goal three minutes later to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.

The 80-degree weather started to play a factor late in the game as both teams were unfamiliar with playing in warmer temperatures this season. North Polk got on the board first in the second half with a goal at the 33:40 mark and later rode that momentum to score three more goals within three minutes of each other, extending their lead to 7-1. Carroll Head Coach Gary MaGill said the warmer weather played a part in his guys’ playing late in the game as they ran out of steam. North Polk sealed the game with a goal with 6:19 left to play to win 8-1 over Carroll.

The Tigers return to the pitch on Thursday, May 12th when they host Winterset at 5:30.

The Kuemper Knights played in one of the first hot and muggy games of the season against Creston on the road and took plenty of shots on goal but were unable to make any. The Panthers in the first half were able to get past the Kuemper defense in the first half to get up 3-0 before halftime. Head Coach Ken Massey says his guys played well in every way but were unable to attack the ball at times. The Knights in the second half were able to keep the Panthers at bay in the second half and took some shots themselves. Nate Overmohle, Isaac Evans and Tommy Fitzsimmons all had three shots on goal, but were unable to net any of those shots. The Panthers finished out the second half by not letting the Knights score and came away with a 3-0 win.
