Carroll at Raccoon River Conference Meet
The Carroll Tigers had one final meet of the season before districts next Thursday as they were at the Raccoon River Conference Meet Thursday. The Tigers as a team finished in eighth place with 23 team points. North Polk was crowned conference champions with a total team score of 186.
The Tigers finished the meet with three top five finishes between individual and relay events. Tanner Pontow was able to secure a fifth-place finish in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.75. In the relay events, Reece Ziegman, Jack White, Remy Richardson, and Zach Dirkx finished in fifth place in the 4X100 event in a time of 45.63. Tigges took the place of Dirkx in the 4X200 event where the relay team placed fourth with a time of 1:37.25. The Tigers are in action next at their Class 3A district meet, which will be held at Denison Schleswig on Thursday, May 12th.

Kuemper at Hawkeye 10 Conference Meet
The Kuemper Knights were able to fit in one final meet before their district meet next week as they competed in the Hawkeye 10 Conference meet Thursday. They were able to finish eighth as a team with 42 points and some solid finishes. Glenwood was the eventual Hawkeye 10 champion with 102 points, beating out Lewis Central by four points.
Michael Pottebaum was part of Kuemper’s four top finishes Thursday. Individually, he was able to win the 800 meter run with a time of 2:03.73 and got second in the 400 meter dash in a time of 51.85. Pottebaum joined Koby Lampman, Trevor Rial, and Logan Sibenaller in the 4X400 relay where the team got fourth place with a time of 3:35.85. Sibenaller and Pottebaum were joined by Garrett Christensen and Tanner Higby for the sprint medley relay where they finished in fourth place in a time of 1:38.99.
The Knights will be at Treynor for their Class 2A district state qualifying meet on Thursday, May 12th.

IKM-Manning, East Sac, Glidden Ralston, Paton Churdan, and Ar-We-Va at South Central Calhoun
After a few delays this season, the Jim Yunek Relays were held on Thursday in Lake City where IKM-Manning, East Sac, Glidden Ralston, Paton Churdan, Ar-We-Va, and South Central Calhoun all competed. The Wolves finished the best among our area teams, finishing in second place with 82 points. Ar-We-Va was next in sixth place with 54 points, followed by South Central Calhoun in seventh with 41 points, East Sac in eighth with 39 points, and Glidden Ralston in ninth with 26 points.
IKM-Manning’s day concluded with six top two finishes overall. Lane Sams and Caden Keller both had solid days in the distance events. Sams got second place in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:08.72. Keller was able to cruise to victory in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. He won the 1600 meter run in a time of 4:50.18 and won the 3200 meter run by matching his personal record with a time of 10:11.59. Sams was also part of the 4X400 and 4X800 relays. Along with Jaxon Doyel, Hunter Smith, and Abe Polzien, the 4X400 relay team got second place with a time of 3:44.17. Reed Hinners replaced Polzien in the 4X800 relay team as they got second place in a time of 8:47.82. Keller joined Doyel, Jase Lueth, and Eli Dreyer in the distance medley relay where they won the event in a time of 3:53.36.
The Ar-We-Va Rockets had another strong showing as they came away with four top two finishes. Cooper Kock went 3-3 in his events, winning the 110 hurdles in a time of 14.70, high jump with a winning jump of 6-00.00, and joined Will Ragaller, and Braeden and Conner Kirsch in the shuttle hurdle relay, winning in a time of 1:08.30. Braeden Kirsch was also in the 110 hurdles and got fourth place with a time of 16.62. Jon Dose was able to have a solid night individually after facing some muscle tightness last week. He finished second in the 400 meter dash in a time of 54.24, third in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.77, and fourth in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.42.
South Central Calhoun’s Jayden Soard helped the Titans bring home three top-three finishes at their home meet. He was part of the winning 4X100 relay team, along with Brock Nattress, Keegan Soard, and Kolby Kraft, where they won with a time of 46.58. Jayden Soard was also able to finish second in the shot put with a throw of 46-02.00 and third in the discus with a throw of 134-11. Nattress, Kraft, Keegan Soard, and Naylan Gulbranson were part of the sprint medley event where they finished in third place with a time of 1:44.05. Tristan Blair was the final individual to record a top three finish for the Titans, finishing in third place in the 3200 meter run in a time of 11:39.59.
The East Sac Raiders came away from this meet with three solid top two finishes. Tyler Schmitt was able to give the Raiders a win in the 200 meter dash as he won with a time of 23.33, and he also got second in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.39. Schmitt was also part of the 4X100 team, along with Landon Grindle, Cale Niehaus, and Asher Lawler, where they finished in second place with a time of 47.24.
Glidden Ralston’s Carter Soyer had a hand in all three of the Wildcats’ top three finishes. He finished in second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:00.49, and was part of the shuttle hurdle and distance medley teams. Soyer, Waylon Hein, Jonathan Bergmeier, and Ethan Olberding in the shuttle hurdle relay finished in second place with a time of 1:09.93. Olberding told Carroll Broadcasting that half of their team had never run this event, but he’s happy with the progress the team has made this season. The distance medley team, composed of Soyer, Lucas Christian, Olberding, and Emmett Snyder, was able to secure a third place finish with a time of 4:00.48.
Paton Chrudan’s Alex Hernandez and Riley Cullum spoke to Carroll Broadcasting at the meet and said they are looking forward to districts coming up on Thursday of next week. Cullum specifically said he’s been getting some tips on his throwing motions in the shot put and is excited to compete among some of the best at districts.
Coming up for all six teams, on Monday, May 9th, South Central Calhoun will host another meet where Ar-We-Va and Glidden Ralston will compete, IKM-Manning will travel to Boyer Valley, and Audubon and Paton Churdan will be at ACGC.

Audubon and Coon Rapids Bayard at Panorama
With district meets on the horizon, Audubon and Coon Rapids Bayard were able to squeeze in a meet at Panorama on Thursday. The two teams finished right next to each other in the team standings, with Coon Rapids Bayard finishing in fifth place with 78 points and Audubon in sixth place with 66 points. Earlham was the eventual meet winner with 127 points.
The Crusaders ended up with five top two finishes at this meet. Lance Clayburg was able to win the discus event with a best throw of 134-04. Gabe Obert secured a second place finish in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.66. Omarion Floyd also secured a second place finish and he did so in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.31. Easton Hays gave the Crusaders another second place finish on the day in the long jump with a best jump of 19-02.50. Hays, Floyd, Obert, and Raiden Doty teamed together in the 4X100 where they secured a second place finish with a time of 44.67.
Gavin Smith for Audubon was once again stellar in the hurdle events. He won both the 110 hurdles event with a time of 15.19 and 400 hurdles event in a time of 56.10. Smith was also part of the winning shuttle hurdle team, also composed of Aaron Olsen, Brandon Jensen, and Carter Andreasen. That team won with a time of 1:02.80. Zeke Konkler had a solid day in the 800-meter run where he finished in second place with a time of 2:10.87.
Up next for both teams, Audubon will travel with Paton Churdan to ACGC while Coon Rapids Bayard is off until their district meet in Audubon on Thursday, May 12th.
