Kuemper At Rod Smith Invite At Woodbine
Kuemper had two meets canceled last week, so getting a chance to compete in Woodbine on Tuesday was the season opener for the Knights. They were very solid in relays, showing their depth along with a strong night from their throwers. The Knights finished in a three-way tie for second place with Woodbine and Tri Center with all three schools scoring 51 points. Glenwood dominated the meet that ran until nearly midnight. The Rams won the meet with 177.50 points. Westwood, Sloan rounded out the top five with 38 points.
Kuemper senior Kenzie Schon looked sharp in the throwing events, winning the shot put by nearly three feet. Her 39-01.50 was better than her seed, which was 38-09.75. Ellie Sibbel was also very strong in the shot put, taking 2nd place with a throw of 36-03.50. Schon finished 2nd in the discus (97-02.50), behind Brynlee Arnold of Glenwood (102-05). Catherine Mayhall and Kerrigan Irlbeck scored the rest of the Kuemper points in individual events. Mayhall (who is also playing soccer) won the 200 meters in 27.82, Kerrigan finished 5th in the 200 meters in 29.34.
The Knights scored in five relay events with the 4×200 leading the way. Brooke Rohe, Grace C Hoffman, Megan Scott and Catherine Mayhall teamed up to finish in 2nd place in 1:57.31. The Distance Medley and Shuttle Hurdle both finished 5th. The Distance medley had Megan Scott, Kerrigan Irlbeck, Macy Blum and Kyra Woltermann and the Shuttle Hurdle team consisted of Jemma Hoffman, Sada Gehling, Vanessa Borelli and Hanna Brincks. Kuemper was 6th in the 4×100 and Sprint Medley. The 4×100 featured Macy Blum, Kyra Irlbeck, Brooke Rohe and Kerrigan Irlbeck while the Sprint Medley was run by Kerrigan Irlbeck, Megan Scott, Catherine Mayhall and Aubrey Heuton.
The Knights are scheduled to run in Denison on Thursday.
