Ar-We-Va and Paton Churdan at Audubon Early Bird Meet
The first track meet of the season for Ar-We-Va, Paton Churdan, and Audubon took place on a windy Tuesday afternoon with all three teams putting up solid performances.
Audubon in their own meet was able to finish 5th in the team standings with 60 points. The Wheelers came away with three individual top two finishes, a top finish in one of their relays, and a fourth-place finish as well. Gavin Smith got back to form from last season and posted a first-place finish in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles. Smith barely edged out Cooper Kock of Ar-We-Va in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.65. He also matched up well with teammate Brandon Jensen in the 400-meter hurdles as Smith won that event with a time of 56.58 and Jensen got second place with a time of 1:01.17. Jensen and Smith both helped the shuttle hurdle relay team win their event as they teamed up with Aaron Olsen and Logan Schmidt and finished with a time of 1:04.33. Audubon’s 4X800 team, composed of Jensen, Adam Obrecht, Colin Hartl, and Mason Steckler, grabbed a fourth-place finish with a time of 10:22.64. Logan Schmidt was also impressive in the 400-meter dash with a fifth-place finish in a time of 58.74.
Ar-We-Va’s day wrapped up with a 10th place finish in the team standings with 30 points and plenty of potential in their individual and relay events. Cooper Kock, along with his second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdle event, helped his shuttle hurdle team to a second-place finish as well. Will Ragaller, Braeden and Conner Kirsch teamed up with Cock to finish with a time of 1:09.50. Kock told Carroll Broadcasting that he hopes to cut a few seconds off their time from this meet and believes they have the talent to do so. Ar-We-Va had two other top five finishes on the day, Jon Dose finishing 4th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.08, and their distance medley relay team, composed of Will Ragaller, Conner Kirsch, Braeden Kirsch, and Blayne Smith, finishing in fourth place with a time of 4:18.50.
Paton Churdan’s lone top eight finisher on the day was Bradyn Smith in the shot-put event who got his season started off good with a best throw of 38-08.00. The Rockets sprint medley relay and distance medley relay teams both finished in ninth place in their respective events, with potential to grow as the season progresses. Paton Churdan’s Riley Cullum told Carroll Broadcasting that he’s excited to see how this team does this season with the talent they have competing.
