Boys Basketball Honorable Mention 

Amos Rasmussen- IKM-Manning- Sr

Rasmussen had a solid season after missing last year due to an injury.  He finished second on the team in scoring with 158 points, second in steals with 24 and fifth in rebounding with 63 rebounds. Amos is heading to Morningside to play football this fall. 

 

Ross Kusel-  IKM-Manning- So 

Kusel shows great potential for the Wolves, having started at point guard every game this season. He became a nice threat on offense, finishing third on the team with 157 points, was third in rebounding with 71, second in assists 44 and led the team with 25 steals. 

 

Conner Halbur- IKM-Manning- Sr 

Halbur returned from an injury this season and became an important part of their inside attack. He led the team in scoring with 167 points, led the team in block shots with 14 and was second in rebounding. 

 

Gavin Smith- Audubon- Sr 

Smith wrapped up his career with another season full of hustle, helping him be at the right place at the right time. Smith led the Wheelers in rebounds by 66 rebounds, had a team high 57 assists, tied for the team lead with 11 blocks, was second in steals with 24 and scored 145 points on the season. 

 

Collin Bauer- Audubon- Jr 

Bauer came on strong this season, becoming a threat on the offensive end, finishing second on the team with 195 points while leading the Wheelers with 42 made three point shots. He was third on the team in free throw percentage. 

 

 Carson Bauer- Audubon- Jr 

Carson was a threat to score every time he touched the ball. His ability to knock down shots from deep and attack the rim helped him lead the Wheelers with 281 points. He was second on the team with 105 rebounds and had a team high 27 steals. Bauer was second on the team in made threes with 34. 

 

Ethan Olberding- Glidden Ralston- Jr 

Olberding hustled his way into leading the Wildcats in scoring with 168 points, he also led the team with 49 assists, was second in rebounds with 86 and steals with 21. His quickness out front made him a threat to attack the rim on offense or jump a passing lane on defense. 

 

Joe Carey- Paton Churdan- Sr  

Carey was the focal point for most teams defense, especially trying to force him away from the three point line. He still hit a team high 53 threes and led the team with 251 points. His 62 rebounds was second on the team and his 36 assists was third on the team. 

 

Easton Hays- Coon Rapids Bayard- Sr 

Hays was a key reason the Crusaders made a great run after the holiday break, becoming another scoring option on an offense that already had three. His quickness allowed him to attack the basket, finishing with 157 points scored. His 9 assists was a team high as was his 59 steals. 

 

Conner Kirsch- Ar-We-Va- Sr 

Kirsch took over the point guard role after the holiday break and helped the team become more effective on the offensive end. He was third on the team in scoring with 156 points and second on the team in assists with 57. He ranked third on the Rockets with 20 steals. 

 

Will Ragaller- Ar-We-Va- Sr 

Ragaller did everything well again for the Rockets as he wrapped up a brilliant career. He was 2nd on the team in scoring with 227 points, led the team with 95 assists, ranked 4th in rebounds with 104 and had a team high 35 steals. He was an outstanding lockdown defender as well. 

 

Aden Vondrak- East Sac- Jr 

His play at point guard helped the Raiders finish three games above 500 in the conference and helped keep their offense from becoming too dependent on one player. He led the team with 92 assists, had a team high 43 assists, and was third on the team with 138 points. 

 

Tyler Lightner- South Central Calhoun- Jr 

Lightner had a very good season, attacking the rim along with knocking down the three. He gave the Titans a point guard that could distribute to teammates or score when needed.  He was third on the team with 66 assists, 3rd in steals (44) and 4th in scoring (250) and rebounding (56). 

 

Gavin Batta- South Central Calhoun- So 

Batta was able to stretch the defense with his team leading 54 made threes that helped keep teams from doubling inside. Batta added 98 rebounds, 4th on the team and 51 assists also 4th on the team. 

 

Michael Kasperbauer- Kuemper- So 

Kasperbauer earned a starting job as the season went on and became the leading scorer for the Knights with 246 points. He was fearless attacking the rim and showed great range from deep, making a team high 44 threes. He tied for third on the team in steals. 

 

Evan Hammer- Carroll- So 

Hammer became an important part of a Tigers team that made a great late season run. His ability to keep rebounds alive and block shots were big reasons why Carroll became a tougher team inside late in the season. He finished 3rd on the team in scoring with 177 points, led the team with 146 rebounds and block shots with 20. His 33 assists was also 3rd best on the team. 

 

3rd Team 

Nick Macke- Carroll- Sr 

Macke has always been quick with a quick release from deep. This season he added attacking the basket more frequently to his repertoire. He finished second on the Tigers in scoring with 253 points while being second in shots made and made three point shots with 32. His 27 steals was second on the Tigers and he ranked 4th with 32 assists. 

 

Dawson Gifford- Kuemper- Jr 

Gifford played a number of different roles for the Knights as the season wore on. Early in the season, they needed him to score, he finished second on the team with 235 points, as the season progressed, other players began to score so he distributed the ball more and led the team in assists. Gifford added a team high 59 steals and was fourth with 77 rebounds. 

 

Isaac Evans- Kuemper- Sr

He was one of the most important players for the Knights this season, because he communicated so well on defense, allowing them to make changes on the go. He was also a force inside, scoring 175 points, 4th on the team. He was second in rebounds with 149 and block shots with 16. 

 

Joe Clark- South Central Calhoun- Jr 

Clark didn’t score a lot unless he needed to. He knew the Titans had other guys that could put the ball in the basket, so he did everything else to help this team have an outstanding season. Clark was second on the team in rebounding with 151, in assists with  67 and steals with 60. He shot nearly 50% from the field and over  41% from three while ranking fifth on the team in shot attempts, 77 attempts behind fourth place. 

 

Luke Wright- East Sac- So 

He became an important player for the Raiders as the season went on, giving them another scorer and rebounder to take pressure off Tyler Schmitt. He finished second on the team with 252 points, rebounds (122), while leading them in block shots with 15. He hit 54.7% from the field. 

 

2nd Team 

Cooper Kock- Ar-We-Va- Sr 

He finished the season averaging close to a double-double and continued to be one of the best rebounders in the area for the third straight season. His 208 rebounds led the team by 55. He scored 249 points, second on the team. He had a team high 18 block shots, was second in steals with 28 and third with 25 assists. 

 

DJ Vonnahme- Kuemper- So 

His move to the top of the high low offense helped the Knights thrive on offense because his athleticism allows him to beat players off the dribble, rise above defenders from midrange and find open teammates for open looks. Vonnahme was third on the team with 235 points (11 behind the team leader), led the team in rebounds (151), second in assists (59) and second in steals (44). 

 

Caden Kock- Carroll-Sr 

Plays harder than everyone at every moment of the game. His energy is unyielding, helping him become one of the most important Tiger players on the floor. That doesn’t diminish the amount of skill he plays with. He is terrific getting to the rim and scoring in traffic, finishing 4th on the team in scoring though he missed a couple weeks with injury. He was third in rebounding with 103, steals (22) and fifth in assists (25). 

 

Gabe Obert- Coon Rapids Bayard- Sr 

Started the season slowly due to an injury during football season. By the middle point of the season he had returned to form, giving the Crusaders another outstanding weapon on the offensive end. He finished with a team high 339 points, was fourth in rebounds with 113, third in steals (35). He shot 42% from the field. 

 

Tanner Oswald- Coon Rapids Bayard- Sr 

Was an elite three point shooter, leading the team with 60 makes, 36 more than anyone else on the team. His 314 points was second highest on the team as was his 67 assists, 49 steals and 16 block shots. His ability to penetrate against the defense and see the floor opened up open looks for his teammates. 

 

1st Team 

Lance Clayburg- Coon Rapids Bayard- Jr 

The junior is a force, partly because of how hard he plays all the time. He is terrific on the defense end, rebounding the basketball, allowing himself to become a threat on offense. He finished third on the Crusaders with 312 points, just 27 behind the team leader. His 244 rebounds nearly doubled his next closest teammate. He added 48 steals, third on the team and 48 assists which was also third most on the team. 

 

Tyler Schmitt- East Sac- Sr 

One of the elite athletes in the area, who had one of the best seasons around. He was a double-double machine again this season, averaging 19 points and 10 rebounds per game. His 458 points and 234 rebounds were team highs. He accomplished that with teams knowing he was the focal part of their offense, and trying to take him away. He added 27 steals, second on the team. He made nearly 60% of his shots. He will head to UNI to play football this fall. 

 

 Eli Wheelock- South Central Calhoun- Jr 

Wheelock had a very good sophomore season. He took his game to another level as a junior. He continued to shoot well from the outside, hitting 53 three point shots, second on the team. His 352 points was also second best on the team. He accomplished that while leading the team with 85 assists and his 70 steals was also a team high. Wheelock made 45% from the field and 84% from the free throw line. 

 

Joshua Dietrich- South Central Calhoun- Sr

Dietrich was a force inside, leading the Titans with 408 points, 181 rebounds and 65 block shots. He could dominate a game from inside the paint on both sides of the ball. He wasn’t just good at blocking shots on the defensive end, finishing with 30 steals, fourth most on the team. His ability to score inside made it easier for their offense, allowing their shooters to get cleaner looks. Dietrich will head to Buena Vista next season. 

 

1st Team and Player of the Year

Kaleb Booth- Carroll- Sr 

Took games over when he needed to, helping the Tigers make a deep run in the postseason. His 2nd half performance against Heelan in the Sub-State semifinal won’t be forgotten by Tiger fans anytime soon. Most people think of Booth as an offensive player first but his biggest contribution at times could be his defense. He always guards the other team’s top scorer if it’s not a post player. He never comes out of games and rarely gets beat on defense, even late in games. Booth is also a great scorer and could average more points per game, but he is about winning, not his own stats. Booth led the Tigers with 488 points, and in assists (120), Steals (50), was second on the team in rebounds with 139. He shot 44% from the field while hitting 41% from three and 83% from the free throw line. 

 

Coach of the Year 

Cory Meyer- Coon Rapids Bayard

Coach Meyer finished up his 16th season at Coon Rapids Bayard, going 17-7 overall this season and 11-5 in the Rolling Valley Conference (4th place). His reputation around the league and state is always having his team technically sound on defense and playing very hard. That all paid off this season as the Crusaders entered the season with hopes and realized those hopes after the holiday break.  Coon Rapids Bayard was 3-3 at the break, with a close loss to West Harrison, who made a run to the State Tournament. After dropping two games out of  the break but a total of 4 points, (mainly due to missed free throws) they got on a run and became one of the top teams in the area. The Crusaders won 14 of 15 games with a 10 game winning streak. They avenged their earlier season losses to Exira-EHK, West Harrison, CAM Anita, Boyer Valley and Woodbine when they lost to them the night before to snap their 4 game win streak. The Crusaders may have been the second best team in the league by season’s end. 

 

Wrestling 

2nd Team 

Bradyn Burns- East Sac- So 

Burns was really good in his sophomore season, finishing 33-7. He was at his best at weekend tournaments. He finished 1st at Paul Fuhrman and went 4-0 at the Jerry Hentges Tournament.  Bruns was 2nd at the Doug Wood, Twin Lakes Conference and Audubon Invitational. He also qualified for Districts at 113 pounds. 

 

Brock Nattress- South Central Calhoun- So 

Nattress took himself to another level as a sophomore. He performed well at several tournaments this season including going 3-0 at the South Central Calhoun Dual Tournament. He was 2nd at Coon Rapids Bayard and 3rd at the Doug Wood and Coon Rapids Bayard Tournaments. 

 

Evelyn Kramer- South Central Calhoun- So 

Kramer put together a very good season, wrestling well at the Girls State Tournament where she finished 2-2. She was also very good at the South Central Calhoun Dual Tournament, finishing 3-0. She took 3rd at the Coon Rapids Bayard Tournament.

 

Justin Rohlfing- South Central Calhoun- Jr 

He spent most of this season ranked, ending the year 26-4. Rohlfing was the champion at a pair of tournaments this season. He won the Doug Wood Tournament at Manson NW Webster to start the season and won the Twin Lakes Conference Tournament.

 

Hayden Stout- Kuemper- Sr 

Stout was really good for the Knights as a senior, helping to provide great leadership to the younger kids, along with giving them a chance to win every match at 160. Stout won the Joe Fitch Tournament and went 6-0 at the Ogden Duals. He was 2nd at the Tri Center Tournament and 3rd at the Carroll Invite.

 

Jake Irlbeck- Kuemper- So 

Irlbeck qualified for the State Tournament at 145 pounds, picking up a win on Friday. He finished the season with 36 wins and 14 losses. Irlbeck was solid all season long, going 5-1 at the Ogden Duals, finishing in 3rd place at the Carroll Invitational, Tri Center Invite and Rich Gray Classic along with a 4th place at the Joe Fitch Tournament. 

 

Elsie Dirkx- Carroll- Sr 

Dirkx went out for wrestling for the first time in her career and put together one of the best seasons in the area against female wrestlers. She was 2nd at the Jack Mendenhall in Ames, and went 3-2 at the Girls State Tournament. 

 

Cooper Ludwig- Carroll- So 

The Sophomore was a key member of the Tigers, spending a good portion of the season in the rankings. He finished the season 37-9 with several good tournament runs. Ludwig was 2nd at the DC-G Tournament to start the season. He went 4-1 at the Ogden Duals and was 3rd in the Carroll Invitational, Herb Irgens at Ida Grove and the Raccoon River Conference. 

 

Cael Nelson- Carroll- So 

Nelson qualified for the State tournament as a sophomore, going 1-2 at State but gaining valuable experience. He finished the season 37-12. Nelson went 5-0 at the Ogden Duals, and won the Carroll Invitational. He added a 2nd place finish at the Raccoon River Conference Meet and was 3rd at DC-G and Herb Irgens at Ida Grove. 

 

Dreylen Schweitzer- Carroll- Jr 

Schweizter continues to improve every season for Carroll, qualifying for the State Tournament this season, going 1-2. He was at his best in tournaments, winning at the Carroll Invite, taking 2nd at the Raccoon River Conference and 3rd at the Jack Mendenhall in Ames and Herb Irgens at Ida Grove. Schweitzer went 3-2 at the Ogden Duals. 

 

1st Team 

Carter Drake- Carroll- Sr 

Drake wrapped up a great career in Carroll at the State Tournament, finishing 1-2. He was a big part of the reason Carroll beat Ballard, won a sectional title and pushed for a district title. Drake went 38-9 on the season. He went 5-0 at the Ogden Duals, won the Carroll Invite, 2nd at DC-G and 4th at both the Jack Mendenhall in Ames and Herb Irgens at Ida Grove. 

 

Jireh Gallegos- Carroll- Jr

The junior spent the whole season ranked, finishing with an outstanding 41-5 mark. He was 5-0 at the Ogden Duals along with winning championships at the Carroll Invite and Herb Irgens at Ida Grove. Gallegos was 2nd at DC-G and 4th at the Jack Mendenhall at Ames. He qualified for Districts. 

 

Sterling Rodman- Carroll- Sr 

Rodman saved his best for last, finishing 6th at the State Wrestling tournament and wrestling very well in Des Moines. He ended his season 35-19, bouncing back from an injury last season and a slump late in this season. Rodman was 5-0 at Ogden Duals and took 2nd at the Carroll Invite. He was 4th at DC-G and 5th at Jack Mendenhall at Ames. 

 

Riley Parkis- Kuemper- Jr   

Parkis was one of four Knights to qualify for the State Tournament, finishing 1-2 but performing well. He was one of the best wrestlers all season, finishing 35-8. Parkis took 1st place in three tournaments, the Joe Fitch in Humboldt, Carroll Invite and Hawkeye 10 Conference tournament. He was 2nd at Rich Gray at Interstate 35 and went 3-2 at the Ogden Duals.

 

Shae Parkis- Kuemper- Sr 

Shae wrapped up a great career with a 5th place finish at the State Tournament, going 4-2. That helped him finish the season 42-6. He was crowned a champion four times, winning at the Joe Fitch At Humboldt, Carroll Invite, Rich Gray at Interstate 35 and the Hawkeye 10 Conference Tournament. Shae was 2nd at the Tri Center tournament. 

 

Cal Wanninger- Kuemper- Sr 

Wanninger had an outstanding run at the State Tournament, reaching the semifinals and finishing 4th overall. He went 3-2 at the State Tournament and 45-6 on the season. Wanninger was really strong all season with tournament titles at the Joe Fitch in Humboldt, Tri Center Tournament, Rich Gray at Interstate 35 and Hawkeye 10 Conference. He also went 5-0 at the Ogden Duals. He added a 2nd place finish at the Carroll Invite. 

 

Charlie Veit- East Sac- So 

Veit had a really good showing at the State Tournament, going 3-2 and finishing in 7th place. He is a very technically sound wrestler who should get better over the next two seasons. He finished the season 36-8 overall. Veit was 2nd at the Paul Fuhrman Tournament and the Twin Lakes Conference Tournament. 

 

Cooper Nielsen- Audubon- Jr 

The junior advanced to the quarterfinals at the State Tournament this season, wrapping up his season at 34-12. He won the Western Iowa Conference Tournament and was 2nd at the Riverside Tournament, 3rd at the Audubon Tournament and 4th at the Herb Irgens at Ida Grove. 

 

Zachary Trott- South Central Calhoun- So 

Trott is one of the reasons to be excited about the future. The sophomore qualified for the State Tournament, finishing the season 40-10. He won championships at several tournaments this season. He was 4-0 at the South Central Calhoun duals, along with finishing 1st at the Twin Lakes Conference Tournament and the Coon Rapids Bayard Invite. Trott took 2nd at the Doug Wood at Manson. 

 

Kevin King- South Central Calhoun- Sr 

King had a very good senior season, staying in the rankings all regular season. He went 47-4 on the season and qualified for districts. He was the champion at the Doug Wood in Manson, Coon Rapids Bayard Tournament and the Twin Lakes Conference tournament. King also finished 2nd at the Herb Irgens at Ida Grove. 

 

Jayden Soard- South Central Calhoun- Sr 

Soard was ranked in the top 5 all season and finished 5th at the State Tournament. He was 51-3  on the season, moving between 220 and 285 pounds. He brought home tournament titles at the Doug Wood in Manson, Coon Rapids Bayard, Twin Lakes Conference Tournament and was 4-0 at the South Central Calhoun Duals. Soard took 2nd at the Herb Irgens tournament. 

 

1st Team and Wrestler of the Year

Blake McAlister- South Central Calhoun Sr 

McAlister dedicated himself to wrestling in the off-season after reaching the State Championship match as a junior. It showed this season as he cruised to a 50-2 record, spending part of the season ranked 1st at 170 pounds. McAlister won championships at the Doug Wood in Manson, Coon Rapids Bayard Invite, Twin Lakes Conference and was 4-0 at the South Central Calhoun Duals. He took 2nd at the Herb Irgens at Ida Grove. He was dominant in Des Moines this season winning his opening round match by fall in 1:11, quarterfinals 8-2 and semifinals by Major Decision 14-4. He reached the finals for a second straight season and finished 2nd, wrapping up one of the best careers in South Central Calhoun history. 

 

Coach of the Year

Eric Nagl- Carroll 

The Tigers had a record breaking season, winning a sectional title for the first time since 1988-1989. They advanced to the Regional Dual tournament, falling in a tight match to ranked Hampton Dumont (mainly because they gave up 3 weight classes). The Tigers nearly won a district championship, taking 2nd place. They advanced four wrestlers to the State Tournament with Sterling Rodman finishing 6th at 170 pounds. Carroll advanced all four wrestlers to Friday. The Tigers beat Ballard for the first time in history, winning 39-33.  They finished 4th at the Raccoon River Conference Tournament. 

 

Girls Basketball 

Honorable Mention 

Sayer Steig- South Central Calhoun – Sr 

Steig became a big part of the team’s trip to the State Tournament, becoming a consistent outside threat, along with scoring inside and helping the team on the boards. Steig hit several clutch threes in the Titans win over Sibley Ocheyedan in the Regional Final, finishing the season hitting 39% from beyond the arc. Her 182 points was 3rd highest on the team, while her 141 rebounds was second most. 

 

Meredith Brown- East Sac- Sr 

Brown became the all-time leading rebounder in East Sac history, along with breaking the single season mark. She wrapped up her great career with 227 rebounds, a team high, along with 143 points, third most of the team. Brown also finished second on the team in assists. Her 39 steals was a team high. 

 

Carly Fischer- East Sac- Sr 

Fischer played most of the season battling through injuries but still played and started every game. Her ability to shoot from the outside was critical to keep the pressure off the inside game. She was second on the team in made three point shots with 29 and second on the team with 181 points. Fischer was third in rebounds (74) and  steals (33) and tops in assists with 58. 

 

Bianca Cadwell- IKM-Manning- Sr 

She battled through injuries this season but still provided great leadership to a young squad, showing them how to compete hard at all times. Cadwell is undersized in the post but still scored 178 points, second on the team. Her 135 rebounds were a team high. She was also second on the team with 40 assists. 

 

Akuet Malek- Kuemper- Jr 

She continues to be a force on defense, finishing the season with 126 block shots, leading the state in all classes. Her 159 rebounds were also second on the team. Malek started to score more late in the season, after she started to get healthier. She shot 73.9% from the free throw line.  

 

Addison Klocke- Carroll- Sr 

Worked her way back into the starting lineup after missing most of last season with an injury. By season’s end Klocke  had become one of the Tigers’ go to girls in the post. She finished fifth on the team in scoring with 116 points, second in rebounding (99) and third in block shots. She didn’t shoot many threes but showed great range in their playoff game against Lewis Central. 

 

Hannah Jorgensen- Carroll- Sr 

She started every game for the Tigers this season and was one of their top defenders on the perimeter. Her 34 steals ranked third on the team, while she led the team with 45 assists. Jorgensen finished the season shooting well from three point range, scoring 134 points, third most on the team. 

 

Vanessa Koehler- Glidden Ralston- Jr 

She has a knack for reading passing lanes and uses her speed to swipe the ball away and get out on the fast break. She paced the Wildcats with 74 steals, helping her score 117 points, third on the team. She rebounds the ball well for being a wing with her 92 rebounds being the third most on the team. 

 

Maggie Ragaller- Ar-We-Va- Jr 

Ragaller led the Rockets in scoring (148). Rebounds (109), steals (49) and was tied for the team lead in assists with 34. Her 5 block shots were also second on the team. Ragaller will be an important part of a team that only loses one senior. 

 

3rd Team

Camryn Schable- Carroll- Jr

Led the Tigers in scoring after starting the season slowly. She got hot from beyond the arc and shot it well, hitting a team high 30, 13 more than anyone else on the team. Her 176 points led the team by 16 points. Schable wasn’t just a shooter, she pulled down 78 rebounds, ranking fourth on the team. 

 

Josie Ayala- Carroll-Sr 

Ayala returned to basketball after a year off and earned Player of the Game honors in her first game back, showing she was going to have a good season. She led the team in rebounding with 153, which was 54 more than anyone else on the team. Ayala scored 160 points, second on the team. Her 43 steals, tied for the team high. She will play softball at Simpson next season. 

 

Mabel Langel- IKM-Manning- Jr 

She became one of the Wolves top players as the season wore on, becoming a tough player inside. She finished with 219 points, leading the team. Her 112 rebounds and 43 steals were second on the team. She added 26 assists, which was fourth on the team. 

 

 

Carmyn Paup- Paton Churdan- Sr 

Paup was the focal point of every defense this season but still found the way to lead her team with 211 points. She also led the team in rebounds (119), steals (50) and assists (37). She knocked down a team high 31 threes. 

 

Frannie Glynn- Kuemper- So 

She plays as hard as anyone all the time and should be a force for the Knights the next couple of seasons. Glynn led the Knights with 207 rebounds, 48 more than anyone else on the team. Her 187 points was second on the team. 

 

2nd Team 

Catherine Mayhall- Kuemper- Jr 

There isn’t anything she can’t do on the basketball court. Mayhall is one of the elite players on both sides of the floor. She is very good at anticipating passes, finishing with a team high 107 steals. She can beat you off the dribble with her floater or from the outside. Mayhall scored a team high 311 points, led the team with 105 assists and was third on the team in rebounds with 154. She shot 41.6% from the field. 

 

Mary Bontrager- East Sac- Jr

Bontrager took her game to another level this season, becoming a threat off the dribble and from the outside. She led the Raiders with 257 points and free throw percentage at 70.4%. Her 91 rebounds was second on the team while she was third in assists (33) and steals (23). 

 

Tiela Janssen- Glidden Ralston- So 

Janssen began to grow into her own as a sophomore, becoming one of the top players in the area and Rolling Valley Conference. She can knock down the three as well as score inside and is a tough defender. She scored 275 points, second on the team, added 88 rebounds, fourth on the team, 71 assists, leading the team and 62 steals, second on the team. The future is very bright for her. 

 

Breely Clayburg- Coon Rapids Bayard- So 

Clayburg followed up a fantastic freshman season with an improved sophomore year. She pulled down a team high 253 rebounds, leading the team by 107 rebounds. Scored 221 points, also second on the team. Clayburg was also third on the team with 37 steals. 

 

Jaci Christensen- Audubon- Sr 

She is one of the elite players in the area and will finish as one of the top players in Audubon history. She is the all-time leading rebounder and single season rebounding leader in Wheeler history. She finished her season with 294 rebounds, a team high but 110 rebounds. She was second on the team with 360 points and in steals (59). Her 7 block shots were a team high. Christensen knocked down 70.3% of her free throws, going to the line 138 times. She will continue her basketball career at Iowa Central Community College. 

 

1st Team

Brynn Bass- Coon Rapids Bayard- Sr 

Bass wraps up a great career for Coon Rapids Bayard with 1,073 points, 229 steals and 223 assists. Her first-three years were really good, her last season was special. Bass scored 469 points to lead the team by 248 points. She added 76 steals and 78 assists, both team highs. Her 70 rebounds were fifth most on the team. Bass made 49 shots from three point range, hitting 38.6%. She finished the season, hitting 41.9% from the field and 74.6% from the free throw line. She will continue her basketball career at Iowa Central Community College. 

 

Paige Klocke- Glidden Ralston- Jr 

Klocke was outstanding this season, often playing herself into exhaustion with her effort. She was a double-double waiting to happen every night and it didn’t matter what teams tried to do to stop her. She led the Wildcats with 407 points, 132 more than anyone else. Her 219 rebounds were also a team high by 126. She wasn’t just a scorer and rebounder. Klocke added 49 assists (2nd on team) and 42 steals (3rd on team). Her 32 made threes were a team  high. 

 

Kylee Schleisman- South Central Calhoun- Jr 

Schleisman was a huge part of the Titans run to the State Tournament this season. The junior helped handle the point guard role, leading the team with 100 assists. She is a very good ball handler, comfortable under pressure or on the opener floor. Schleisman has an ability to get to the rim or stop for the midrange jumper while also being a very good three point shooter. Her 305 points was second on the team, her 82 steals led the team lead and her 86 rebounds was fourth on the team. Schleisman knocked down 46 shots from three. 

 

 

Riley Batta- South Central Calhoun- Jr 

Batta is one of the elite players and athletes in the area. She put together a big season for the Titans and was key to them making a run to the State Tournament. She battles hard inside, though she is an undersized post player. Batta scored a team  high 423 points, shooting over 53% from the field. Her point total was 118 more than anyone else on the team. Batta also led the team with 208 rebounds while ranking third in assists (63) and steals (58). Her 32 blocked shots were a team  high. She scored her 1,000 career point this season with one more year to play. 

 

1st Team and Player of the Year

Aleah Hermansen- Audubon- Sr 

Audubon finished the season 16-9 overall and 11-5 in the Western Iowa Conference, in 3rd place behind Treynor and Underwood. Hermansen wrapped up her outstanding career as one of the best players in Audubon history, going over 1,500 points and 500 rebounds. She ends her career with 1, 545 points, 585 rebounds, 281 assists and 287 steals. Her numbers this season were the best of  her career. She led the Wheelers with 461 points, 111 assists and 83 steals while being second on the team with 184 rebounds. Hermansen made 71 three point shots. Hitting 35.1% from beyond the arc along with 74.6% from the free throw line. She will head to Dordt to continue her basketball career. 

 

Coach of the Year

Curt Batta- South Central Calhoun

What a first year for Coach Batta as Head Coach at South Central Calhoun. He helped lead his team to the State Basketball Tournament where they faced Dike New Hartford in the quarterfinals, falling 64-44. They advanced to the tournament with a regional final win over 5th ranked Sibley Ocheyedan, finishing the season 19-6 overall and 7-4 in the Twin Lakes Conference, good enough for 4th place. They won their last four games heading into the State Tournament. They outscored their opponents this season by nearly 14 points per game, doing so by focusing on defense.
