Glenwood At Carroll- Class 3A Sub-State 8
Carroll 69
Glenwood 57
Carroll was impressive on both sides of the floor as they advanced into the sub-state semifinal on Thursday. The Tigers defense held Caden Johnson to 9 points, 10 below his season average and did a nice job taking away the pick-and-roll. Offensively they had a nice balance with different guys stepping up throughout the game. Carroll only trailed once, at 3-2 when Jayme Fritts hit a three, putting the Rams u 3-2. Nick Macke answered with a three and Carroll never trailed again. Carroll built a consistent 8-10 point lead and held off every run the Rams had in them the rest of the 1st half. Carroll went up 16 in the 3rd quarter, never leading by less than 8 the rest of the game.

Nick Macke, Caden Kock and Evan Hammer were big for Carroll early as the Rams looked to keep Kaleb Booth from getting looks at the rim. The Rams were following Booth everywhere he went and double teaming him when he touched the ball. Macke scored 5 of the Tigers first 7 points, adding 4 more as Carroll pushed their lead to 15-8. Evan Hammer was huge on the boards. He didn’t grab all the rebounds but consistently tipped the ball, allowing a teammate to grab the loose ball. Caden Kock scored 11 of his 14 points in the 1st half, along with a couple key early steals and assist. Carroll led 18-8 after the 1st quarter and maintained that led most of the rest of the half, though Glenwood went on a 6-0 run midway through the 2nd quarter, pulling within 5 at 24-19. Nick Macke scored on a set play for Carroll, then Kaleb Booth found Caden Kock for a bucket and the Tigers were up 28-19. Kock was fouled with 1.3 seconds left in the half. He missed the front end of a one-and-one but grabbed his own rebound and scored just before the halftime buzzer to put Carroll up 30-19.
Glenwood opened the 3rd quarter, trimming the lead to 30-24 but again Carroll answered with an Ethan Lengeling basket and three free throws from Kaleb Booth. Carroll was up 35-26, then stretched it to 46-30 on a Nick Macke dribble drive. The lead was cut to 9 twice in the 4th quarter but also grew to 17 late in the game. Carroll did struggle from the free throw line going 15-27.
Nick Macke led Carroll with 21 points. Caden Kock and Gus Collison each had 14 points, Collison added 6 rebounds, Kock had 3 steals. Evan Hammer had 7 points and 5 rebounds, Kaleb Booth finished with 5 assists and Tanner Gotto finished with 6 rebounds.
Carroll improves to 14-8 with their 6th straight win. They will head to Bishop Heelan, who beat Atlantic 72-47. The game is Thursday and will be broadcast on 93.7 KKRL with pregame around 6:45 and tipoff at 7:00.
