Rodman at 170 went 2-0 on Friday with wins in the 2nd and 3rd round consolation rounds. He came out aggressive in both matches, getting a quick takedown in the 2nd round consolation matchup with Brady Barringer of Winterset. The Titans have scored 34 points, sitting in 13th place, with two wrestlers competing on Saturday. Jayden Soard has a chance for 3rd place, and Blake McAlister will have a rematch of last season’s State Championship match. Kuemper also had two wrestlers competing on Saturday as they sit in 26th place with 19 points. Cal Wanninger narrowly missed making the finals, losing 1-0 in the semifinals. Shae Parkis is still alive, with a chance to finish as high as 3rd place. East Sac’s Charlie Veit has been very impressive at 132. Audubon sits 57th with 4 points, heading into Saturday. Their only wrestler, Cooper Nielsen saw his season come to an end on Friday.

South Central Calhoun entered Friday with two guys in the semifinals. Blake McAlister controlled both of his matches on the day, advancing into the 170-pound championship. McAlister handled Jaydon Knight in the quarterfinals, spending plenty of time riding on the top and not allowing Knight to get comfortable. He had a quick takedown, rolling to an 8-2 win. His semifinal match was a rematch of last season’s semifinal and again McAlister advanced into the finals. He took control early, beating Max Kohl of Lisbon on his feet and rolling to a major decision 14-4 win. McAlister will rematch against Cade Tenold from Don Bosco in the finals. He lost to Tenold last season. Jayden Soard at 220, had wrestled Cal Wanninger twice this season in sectionals and districts. He had won both of those meetings. Wanninger got the first takedown and kept Soard wrestling from behind all match. Soard had a chance down 4-3 but Wanninger answered and won 12-5. Soard bounced back after the loss with his two of his best performances of the season. He was dominant in a win by fall 2:32 in his 2nd round consolation match against Wyatt Hana of Lake Mills. Soard was more aggressive in the 3rd round consolation against Cooper Andersen of Panorama and won by fall in 3:49. Soard looked quick and strong. East Sac only brought one wrestler, but Charlie Veit has been very impressive for a sophomore. He is technically sound, which helped him advance in the backside after a loss to Elliot Cooney of Nodaway Valley in the quarterfinals. Veit can still wrestle for 3rd place Saturday night. The Raiders are in 47th place with 7 points.

Kuemper moved four guys into Friday and nearly had a finalist as Cal Wanninger reached the semifinals before falling 1-0 to Jared Thiry of Don Bosco. Wanninger came off a big win over Jayden Soard (12-5) and looked worn down on the mat in the finals. He had a couple shots at the legs but didn’t get deep enough to take a shot at a takedown or back points. Wanninger fell 1-0 and drops into the consolation semifinals with a chance to still wrestle for 3rd place.  Shae Parkis kept himself alive for 3rd place at 152. Parkis lost to Gabe McGeough of MFL Marmac in the quarterfinals 12-5 but bounced back with wins in the 2nd and 3rd round consolations. Parkis was impressive, with an aggressive attack against Nolan Moore in the 2nd round consolations. He cruised to a major decision 10-2 victory. Parkis focused on getting the first takedown and that fueled him. His 3rd round consolation matchup against McKade Munn of Nashua Plainfield. He was never in any trouble, winning 0-3. Shae Parkis wrestles for the right to wrestle for 3rd place Saturday. Jake Irlbeck at 145, faced off with a good wrestler, Kale Munson of Ogden in the 2nd round consolations, losing by fall 4:00 right at the end of the 2nd period. Irlbeck missed last season with an injury but was very good in 2021-2022, especially down the stretch of the season.  Riley Parkis faced off with Preston Klosterman of Alburnett, losing by fall at 1:04 to end his season.

Charlie Veit competed in the quarterfinals against Elliot Cooney, losing in a tight match 4-2. He was very strong on top, giving him a chance to win. Veit bounced back in the 2nd round consolations with a more aggressive attack, helping his beat Kitt Lundy of Pleasantville by fall 3:29. His 3rd round consolations match didn’t go well for him, partly because he had a hard time controlling the blood from his nose. The match was stopped several times, taking him out of any rhythm.  He lost by major decision 9-1 to Tiernan Boots of Lisbon.

Cooper Nielsen of Audubon was in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon but lost to Jonah Clark of WACO Wayland in the quarterfinals. He tried to bounce back but lost to Conner Reed of Sigourney Keota by fall 0:30. His season came to an end.
