It was a very good night for the nine area wrestlers with eight advancing into Friday with six of the eight moving into the quarterfinals and the other two advancing out of the 1st round consolations. All four Kuemper wrestlers advanced with two on the front side and two on the back side. South Central Calhoun had two of their three move into the quarterfinals and both East Sac and Audubon had their lone wrestler move into the quarterfinals.

Riley Parkis of Kuemper at 120 dropped his 1st round match to Dawson Schmitt of Wapsie Valley. Parkis started slowly and ended up losing by fall at 4:23. He bounced back nicely in the 1st round of consolations, winning a scoring explosion 17-12. Parkis used a late takedown in the 2nd period to take control of the match. He will wrestle against the loser Friday of the quarterfinal between Braden Graff of West Sioux and Preston Klostermann of Alburnett. Jake Irlbeck lost his 1st round at 145, falling to number one seeded Hagen Heistand of Underwood by fall 1:33. Irlbeck roared back in his 1st round consolation matchup against Myles McMahon of Don Bosco. Irlbeck used a late takedown to win by fall 4:45. He will wrestle Friday against the loser of the quarterfinal between Kale Munson of Ogden and Mikey Baker of West Sioux. Shae Parkis of Kuemper moved into the quarterfinals with a 6-2 win over Gunnar Keeney of Alburnett. Parkis was in control the entire match. He will wrestle Gabe McGeough of MFL on Friday in the quarterfinals. Cal Wanninger of Kuemper had to go to extra time to pick up his win at 220. Wanninger took an early 1-0 lead but gave up an escape in the 3rd period. They went to sudden death one and Wanninger was able to score a takedown to win the match. He will wrestle Jayden Soard of South Central Calhoun in the quarterfinals.

Jayden Soard of South Central Calhoun was impressive in his opening match. He worked on a few different things before, taking down Evan Foreman of I-35 and rolling him for a win by fall 3:16. Soard will wrestle Cal Wanninger in the 220-pound quarterfinals on Friday. Blake McAlister gives the Titans a second wrestler in the quarterfinals. McAlister got in a little trouble in the 1st period but had no trouble recovering quickly to pick up a win by fall 1:11. McAlister breezed into the quarterfinals against Jaydon Knights of Mount Ayr. Zachary Trott of South Central Calhoun wrestled two guys that very possibly will end up on the podium on Saturday. He fell by fall 1:16 to Kellen Smith of West Hancock in the 1st round. Trott battled back in the 1st round consolation, wrestling well in his 1st round consolation before losing in the 3rd period. Trott lost by fall at 4:44 ending his season at 40-10. The sophomore says he learned a lot in his first trip to the State Wrestling meet.

Charlie Veit of East Sac at 132 looked really impressive in an 8-0 win over Riley Radke of Missouri Valley. Veit controlled the match from the start, handling Radke on top and bottom. Veit says he was disappointed in the way he wrestled against Radke at districts last week and knew he needed to come out aggressively. He moves into the quarterfinals against Elliot Cooney of Nodaway Valley on Friday.

Cooper Nielsen was equally impressive in a win over Tony Greve of South Winnesheik. Nielsen came out sharp, knowing he wanted to be aggressive and look for his shot. He did that wining by fall 3:09 to advance into the quarterfinals against Jonah Clark of Waco on Friday.
