Kuemper At Treynor- Class 2A Region 8
Treynor 57
Kuemper 43
Kuemper nearly pulled off the upset, outplaying Treynor 40-30 in the 1st, 2nd and 4th quarters combined. Problem for Kuemper was they had to play the 3rd quarter. Kuemper led 20-19 at half after a Karsyn Overmohle three put the Knights ahead for the fourth time in the 1st half. The Knights rallied in the 2nd quarter after falling behind 8-1 to begin the game, leading 13-11, 17-16 and 20-19. A Frannie Glynn free throw put Kuemper up 21-19 to start the 3rd, then nothing went right the rest of the quarter. Alexa Schwartz heated up from the outside for Treynor, Brooklyn Sedlak was able to get to the rim and the Cardinals found their rhythm, creating turnovers, getting out on the break and attacking the Kuemper Diamond and one. Treynor went on a 10-0 run to jump up 29-21. A Frannie Glynn bucket cut it to 29-23 but Treynor closed out the 3rd quarter on a 17-0 run. Kuemper battled back in the 4th quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 20-11 but the 23 point deficit was too much to overcome.
The Kuemper defense was very good in the 1st half, after the tough start when they fell behind 8-1, mainly off turnovers they settled in on the offensive end and got aggressive. The defense was containing the Cardinals, creating double digits in turnovers in the 1st half. Kora Thomsen covered Claira Teigland in the diamond and one with some help from Frannie Glynn on baseline screens. Thomsen held Teigland in check. Teigland had 8 points at half but only a pair of those came with Thomsen guarding her.

IKM-Manning at LoMa- Class 2A Region 8
IKM-Manning 47
LoMa 31
The IKM-Manning Wolves shot lights out in the third quarter Tuesday night as their seven-three pointers gave them their first win over the LoMa Panthers on the season and a trip to Underwood in their Regional Semifinals.
The Wolves in the first quarter were plagued with a vast amount of turnovers that the Panthers used to get ahead early. Taylor Ferneding and Macie Doyel were able to get the Wolves ahead with two three-pointers, but LoMa threatened by cutting down their lead to 6-5. Mable Langel was able to keep IKM-Manning ahead at the end of the quarter with a field goal, extending their lead to 8-5. The Wolves’ offense was sparked in the second quarter with Langel getting two quick field goals and a steal. Behind Bianca Cadwell and Lengel’s six-point performances, the Wolves got up 19-9 at one point in the quarter. LoMa capitalized on some costly turnovers from IKM-Manning to go on a 6-0 run and cut down the Wolves’ lead to 19-15. The Wolves returned the favor to end the quarter as they too went on a 6-0 run to get back up to a 10-point lead at 25-15 entering halftime. Langel led the team with eight first-half points.
In the second half, the Wolves were getting the three-pointers to pour from the ceiling as they put up four of them in the third quarter. Morgan Hanson drained two of them while Ferneding and Doyel put up one each to give the Wolves offense another big spark. LoMa started to see struggles on their end of the court as they were unable to get many points off of IKM-Manning turnovers and missed plenty of layups and short-ranged shots. The four three-pointers kept IKM-Manning out in front of the Panthers, leading 39-23 heading into the fourth quarter. The Wolves did the best they could to keep the clock running in the final eight minutes of the game, passing more and handling the ball better. LoMa’s struggles continued to show as they had steals that didn’t end with points scored. After the final buzzer sounded, IKM-Manning was left standing victorious by a final score of 47-31. Langel led the team with 13 points and added nine rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Doyel and Hanson both added 11 points to the Wolves total while Hanson had a solid night with seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
The Wolves will improve to 8-17 overall on the season. They advance to the Class 2A Region 8 Semifinals as they travel to take on Underwood on Friday, February 18th.
