The Carroll Tigers extended their current win streak to four games as they crushed Gilbert in Saturday’s regular season contest.
Carroll got off to a fiery start, getting ahead 21-11 after the first quarter concluded. In the first meeting between these two teams, it was a lot closer with Carroll squeezing out the 54-51 victory, but today was much different. Carroll’s offense had a slight hiccup in the second quarter, but still scored consistently and kept Gilbert to a game low eight points. The Carroll Tigers got ahead 35-19 going into halftime. Kaleb Booth for Carroll was a scoring machine as he put up 29 points all together, and had some solid help from Nick Macke who scored 17 total points and Gus Collison who went off for 13 points.
Carroll bounced back from their slight slump with another strong performance in the third quarter. Gilbert was able to figure out Carroll’s plan of attack on defense and put up their best numbers of the game with 18 points. Carroll’s 23 points in the third was enough to keep them ahead by a score of 58-37. Booth’s massive scoring night continued in the fourth quarter as he and his team put up their best quarter yet. They put up 30 points in the fourth quarter alone and left Gilbert with little momentum left to swing the game in their favor. The Carroll Tigers were able to win in a big fashion, pulling away with an 88-55 victory.
Carroll will grab their 10-conference win of the season, improving to 10-6 and 12-8 overall. Booth also surpassed 1,000 career points with his performance in this game, becoming only the 13th Carroll Tiger boys basketball player to do so. The Tigers will close out the regular season when they travel to Harlan on Thursday, February 17th.
