The Carroll Tigers started off trailing to the Carlisle Wildcats in Tuesday’s Raccoon River Conference game but were able to rally from the second quarter on to win.
The Tigers started off the first quarter with the lead, and even got out of the gate with a 4-0 scoring run. That run was cut off when the Wildcats grabbed the lead at 5-4 and extended it to 11-7. Carroll was able to cut the four-point lead down to two with a bucket late in the quarter to only be down 11-9 going into the second quarter. The Tigers saw much better success in the second quarter as they started by tying the Wildcats at 13 points and took over from there. Carlisle was close to tying the game again when they cut down the 16-13 Tiger lead to 16-15 but weren’t quite able to do so. The Tigers closed out the quarter going 5-4 in points to hold on to their two-point 21-19 lead heading into halftime. Camryn Schable led the team with seven first half points, aided by Josie Ayala with six points.
While Carlisle kept the game close in the third quarter, Carroll was able to stay ahead throughout all of the third quarter. The Wildcats were within two points of tying the game three times in the third quarter, at 21-19, 23-21, and 25-23, but couldn’t find a way to tie it up. Carroll closed out the third by leading by four points at 30-26 and needed a solid fourth quarter to stay ahead. The Tigers defense stepped up in big ways in the fourth quarter, keeping Carlisle to a game low in points scoring a game high. After getting up 35-30, the Tigers went on a scoring run that lasted most of the fourth quarter, going 8-2 and eventually taking home the 43-32 win at home. Hannah Jorgensen led the Tigers in the second half seven points.
The Tigers will improve to 9-10 overall on the season and 4-10 in the Raccoon River Conference. They will continue the regular season as they take on ADM on Friday, February 11th.

South Central Calhoun wanted a fast start after the Raiders had given them trouble the past few years in the second matchup of the season. The Titans got the quick start they needed jumping out 7-0 behind threes from Sayer Steig and Kylee Schleisman. Riley Batta scored early in the 1st quarter, surpassing 1,000 points in her career. Carly Fischer hit a three for East Sac to get them on the board, but the Titans dominated the 1st quarter, leading 20-5 when it ended. The Raiders made a run in the 2nd quarter, Carly Fischer grabbed an offensive rebound and scored, then jumped a passing lane and made a layup on the other end to cut the Titans lead to 22-15. South Central Calhoun called a timeout and got buckets from Riley Batta and Kylee Schleisman putting them back up by 11. Schleisman then found Batta inside just before the buzzer and the Titans led 28-15 at half.
East Sac scored to open the 2nd half, but South Central Calhoun went on a 15-2 run to blow the game open, leading 43-19. The Titans finished the game shooting 56.5% from the field including hitting 7-20 from beyond the arc. East Sac struggled from the field, going 11-39 and only 3-16 from three. South Central Calhoun won the rebound battle 26-22 and had 15 steals to the Raiders 5. East Sac turned it over 15 times, the Titans had 11 turnovers.
Riley Batta led the Titans with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Kyee Schleisman added 15 points and Sayer Steig hit 3 of 4 from three to score 13 points. Emma Anderson had 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals.
East Sac got 16 points from Carly Fischer, Mary Bontrager added 10 points and Meredith Brown who became the all-time and single season rebounding holder from the Raiders last week added 8 points and 8 rebounds.
The Titans wrap up the regular season 16-5 overall and 8-4 in the Twin Lakes Conference. They head to Emmetsburg next Tuesday for their first playoff game. East Sac ended the regular season 6-15 overall and 2-10 in the Twin Lakes Conference. The Raiders travel to Manson NW Webster Saturday for their opening playoff matchup.

The IKM-Manning Wolves and Audubon Wheelers closed out their regular seasons Tuesday in their last Western Iowa Conference game, where the Wheelers put up 70 points and Aleah Hermansen and Jaci Christensen both put up great offensive performances.
Audubon held on to a slight lead over IKM-Manning in the beginning of the first quarter, starting with a 5-2 lead. The Wolves got on a lengthy 7-0 run after that point to lead 10-5 in the later parts of the quarter, until the Wheelers cut that lead down to two points with a three pointer. The Wolves held on to that two-point lead at 12-10 as both teams traded buckets to end the quarter. The Wolves continued to ride their momentum in the beginning of the second quarter, but the Wheelers were soon in pursuit. Audubon tied up the game at 12 points and soon took the lead at 13-12 and didn’t look back from there. The Wheelers went on their own scoring run, going 15-4 that took the majority of the quarter, until they put up 22 points and took a 32-21 lead into halftime. Sienna Albertsen for the Wheelers drained two three pointers while Jaci Christensen led the team with 13 first half points. Mabel Langel led the Wolves with six first half points.
The Wheelers continued to drain buckets in the third quarter but allowed IKM-Manning to get back offensively late. Audubon had another large scoring run to start the quarter, this time going 13-3 and getting up 45-24. The Wolves broke that scoring run with some late quarter success as they put up 10 points. Despite that, the Wheelers still had a solid lead at 55-34 going into the fourth quarter. Just like a repeat of the first quarter, both teams were trading bucket for bucket, but this time Audubon had a large lead built up. While the Wolves were only outscored by three points at 15-12, Audubon was able to escape with a 70-46 victory. Aleah Hermansen led the Wheelers in the second half with 19 points and three-three pointers while Christensen put up another 10 points. Abby Neiheisel led the Wolves in the second half with nine points.
Audubon rounds out the 2021-2022 regular season finishing in third place in the Western Iowa Conference with a record of 10-3 and an overall record of 14-8. The Wolves finished 6-10 in the conference and 7-14 overall. Audubon will be hosting their first-round regional playoff game as they take on conference opponent Riverside on Thursday, February 10th. The Wolves will also take on a conference opponent in the first round of the regional playoffs as they travel to take on LoMa on Tuesday February 15th.

The Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders and Paton Churdan Rockets closed out their regular seasons with one last Rolling Valley Conference game Tuesday night where the Crusaders picked up the win and will bring some momentum into regional playoffs.
The Crusaders came out of the gate firing on all cylinders as they got up 14-2 over the Rockets. The duo of Breeley Clayburg and Miranda McClellan saw some great success in the rebounding department, recording 17 between the two of them, with Clayburg leading the team with 10. For Paton Churdan, it was Emma Stream and Carmyn Paup who were rebounding well with 16 boards combined between the two of them, Paup leading the team with nine. The offense for Coon Rapids Bayard came alive in the second quarter and didn’t give up an ounce on defense. Behind Brynn Bass, the Crusaders put up 25 points and extended their lead out to 39-11 going into halftime.
The Crusaders continued to bank in the shots in the third quarter. Along with Bass’ 20-point performance, Clayburg also had a solid night with a 14-point, 10 rebound double-double and Mclellan adding 13 to their total. The Crusaders put up another 19 points in the third to get out to a 58-15 lead. The Rockets were able to get double digit points up in the fourth quarter and show off some of their talents. Carmyn Paup was one rebound shy of a double-double, recording 16 points and nine rebounds along with four assists. Haylee Duckett and Emma Stream also aided the offense with six points each. The Rockets went 16-2 over the Crusaders in the fourth, but the performances from the Crusaders in the second and third quarters was enough to give them the 60-31 win.
The Crusaders close out the regular season with a record of 13-9 overall and finish fourth in the Rolling Valley Conference with a record of 10-6. The Rockets finished with a record of 0-15 and 0-10 in the conference. Coon Rapids Bayard will host their first-round regional playoff game as they take on Tri-Center on Thursday, February 10th. Paton Churdan will travel to take on Ankeny Christian Academy for their first-round playoff game on Thursday.

The Glidden Ralston Wildcats close out the 2021-2022 regular season with a strong performance against the Rolling Valley Conference’s top team Exira-EHK Tuesday night.
The Wildcats didn’t get off to the start they wanted defensively as the Spartans got the upper hand early. Exira-EHK got up 23-10 after the first quarter concluded. Glidden Ralston bounced back in a big way in the second quarter, cutting down the Spartan productivity tremendously, while getting their offense going as well. The Spartans were kept to a game low 10 points while the Wildcats were able to match that offensively. The spark in the Wildcats game was only spoiled by their first quarter performance as Exira-EHK took a 33-20 lead into halftime.
The Wildcat defense continued to keep Exira-EHK at bay in the second half while their offense had bright spots with two more double digit point quarters. The Glidden Ralston offense had some solid output from Paige Klocke, Tiela Janssen, and Vanessa Koehler. Klocke led the team with 11 points and nine rebounds, Janssen put up 11 points, and Koehler had 10 points. Koehler also contributed well defensively with four steals that helped the Wildcats keep the Spartans to 13 points in the third quarter. While the Spartans outscored the Wildcats in all four quarters, the Wildcats showed they can bounce back from big deficits and hold off some high scoring offenses. Exira-EHK escaped with a 62-41 victory.
The Wildcats will finish fifth in the Rolling Valley Conference with a record of 6-8 and an overall record of 9-10. The Wildcats will host their first-round regional playoff game as they play host to Griswold on Thursday, February 10th.

The Ar-We-Va Rockets closed out the 2021-2022 regular season with a home stand against CAM-Anita Tuesday night.
The Cougars were able to keep the Rockets at bay in their second meeting of the season as they got out ahead 15-4 in the first quarter. Ar-We-Va handled CAM-Anita to 18 points in their first meeting, but the Cougars were much more aggressive on the defensive end of the court in this game. That defensive might for the Cougars continued in the second quarter where they kept the Rockets to five points and extended their lead to 32-9 going into halftime. Ar-We-Va’s Sophie Jackson played in her last home game of her senior season and her game included four points and four rebounds. She had some help from her junior leaders, including Maggie Ragaller who put up five points, five boards, and four steals, along with Jamie Hausman who had four points, two rebounds, and two steals.
CAM-Anita continued to stay aggressive with another defensively strong second half. Ar-We-Va managed to up their defensive anty as well, keeping the Cougars to 13 points and 10 points in the third and fourth quarter respectively. While the Rockets fought hard all game long, the Cougars managed to get the win on the road 55-19. Ar-We-Va Head Coach Jeremy Smith thanked Sophie Jackson for her senior leadership this season and was happy with how hard his team played all game long. The Rockets wrap up the regular season with an overall record of 3-15 and Rolling Valley Conference record of 3-10. The Rockets in the first round of the Class 1A Region 2 playoffs will travel to take on Remsen St. Mary’s on Thursday, February 10th.
