Coon Rapids Bayard used a great defensive quarter and their strength inside to pick up a big conference win. The Wildcats knocked down 8-3’s but struggled to keep the Crusaders off the offensive glass and struggled to score in the lane. The win improves Coon Rapids Bayard to 12-9 overall and 9-6 in the Rolling Valley Conference while Glidden Ralston falls to 9-10 overall and 6-8 in the Rolling Valley Conference. The game was tight after the 1st quarter with Glidden Ralston leading 16-13. The Wildcats were able to establish Paige Klocke and Tiela Janssen on the offensive end. Coon Rapids Bayard locked down on the defensive end in the 2nd quarter, holding the Wildcats scoreless. Breeley Clayburg and Miranda McClellan took over inside and Brynn Bass got going from the outside as the Crusaders went up 26-16 at half. The lead remained between 7 and 12 the entire 2nd half.

The lead changed hands three times in the 1st quarter and was tied three times. Vanessa Koehler found Tiela Janssen for a three, tying the game at 3. Miranda McClellan hit Breeley Clayburg for an early bucket, putting Coon Rapids Bayard up 5-3. A Paige Klocke three gave Glidden Ralston their first lead at 8-5. They extended it to 8-5 after Klocke scored again. A Brynn Bass three tied the game at 8, Klocke scored again for Glidden Ralston, making it 10-8. Megan Gray put Coon Rapids Bayard back on top with a three, Paige Klocke answered with a three and Glidden Ralston led 13-11. Brynn Bass found Breeley Clayburg inside, tying the game but Paige Klocke hit a three to put the Wildcats on top 16-13 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Lydia Hofbauar scored to cut the deficit to 16-15 early in the 2nd quarter and Breeley Clayburg put the Crusaders on top for good with a bucket inside. Miranda McClellan scored a bucket inside and Brynn Bass drained a three, forcing a Wildcat timeout with the Crusaders upp 22-16. Tiela Janssen hit a three to start the 2nd half and Glidden Ralston pulled within seven. They would pull within seven in the 4th quarter but the Crusaders each time built it back to 14 each time.
Brynn Bass led Coon Rapids Bayard with 18 points while pulling down 7 rebounds and picking up 4 steals. Breeley Clayburg finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Miranda McClellan had 7 points and 10 rebounds.
Tiela Janssen led the Wildcats with 15 points along with 5 rebounds. Paige Klocke scored 13 points with 6 rebounds, Vanessa Koehler added 5 rebounds along with 4 assists and 4 steals.
The Crusaders play at Paton Churdan on Tuesday. The Wildcats host Exira-EHK.

The Ar-We-Va Rockets trimmed down Boyer Valley’s lead down to 12 going into the second half but couldn’t keep their momentum up as the Bulldogs pulled away with the victory Monday night.
Boyer Valley’s offense got out to a solid start against the Rockets in the first quarter, climbing to an 18-4 lead going into the second quarter. Ar-We-Va saw a resurgence of their overall game in the second quarter with their offense swinging back at Boyer Valley. Jamie Hausman and Timerblen Koch led the charge on offense with Hausman scoring eight points overall and Koch leading with nine points. Ar-We-Va matched the Bulldogs in points with 13 in the quarter to trail by 14 at 31-17. The Rockets managed to get the Bulldog’s lead down to 12 to start the third quarter, but it was short lived as Boyer Valley continued their offensive attack. The Bulldogs went 12-5 in the third quarter and 11-5 in the fourth to pull away with the victory at 54-27. As a team, Ar-We-Va rebounded well, recording 26 boards. Rockets Head Coach Jeremy Smith says he was still happy with how his girls played against Boyer Valley.
The Rockets will finish out the regular season as play host to CAM Anita on Tuesday, February 8th.

The IKM-Manning Wolves had three girls record double-digit points against a tough MVAO-COU team Monday night, but despite a resilient second half performance, the Wolves were unable to pick up the road victory.
The Wolves and Rams battled it out in the first quarter as both offenses got out to good starts. The Rams had the slight advantage, leading the Wolves by two points at 17-15 heading into the second quarter. Bianca Cadwell in her second game back for the Wolves was a big help offensively as she put up 12 points and nine rebounds. That good offensive start from the Wolves was halted in the second quarter as the Rams gained the momentum. MVAOCOU kept IKM-Manning to nine points as they went 21-9 and extended their lead to 38-24.
IKM-Manning tried to claw back in the second half, but the Rams found ways to stay a step ahead. Both offenses were at a standstill in the third quarter, leaving MVAO-COU with their lead, now at 53-39. While the Wolves had their best scoring quarter in the fourth with 20 points, the Rams were running right alongside them. MVAO-COU closed out their performance with 18 points in the fourth en route to a 71-59 victory. Abby Neiheisel led the Wolves with 17 points while Mabel Langel put up 15 points. IKM-Manning will fall to 7-13 overall on the season.
The Wolves close out the regular season as they travel to take on Western Iowa Conference opponent Audubon on Tuesday February 8th.
