Kora Thomsen shined on senior night as the Knights only senior came out firing, hitting a pair of 3’s, scoring 8 points early as Kuemper led 21-13 after the 1st quarter. Every time Shenandoah made a run the Knights found an answer. It was a different player coming through as well. Karsyn Overmohle nailed a 3 late in the 2nd quarter, after the Fillies had tied the game. Catherine Mayhall extended the Kuemper lead to 33-26 at half with a steal and layup right at the buzzer. Mayhall along with Thomsen carried the Kuemper offense early. Mayhall scored all 10 of her points in the 1st half but kept making a huge impact on the game in other ways. She picked up several nice assists in the 2nd half and also had a key steal late in the game. Shenandoah made another run in the 3rd, tying the game, but again Kuemper responded with a run, extending the lead to 7. Aubrey Heuton made have had a coming out party. She was outstanding on both sides of the floor and came up with several clutch baskets and steals. Her offensive rebound and put back while being fouled kept Kuemper in control in the 2nd half. The Fillies cut into Kuemper’s lead in the 3rd, trailing 47-43 heading into the final stanza, but Kuemper kept making plays. Akuet Malek battled foul trouble early but was a force around the rim in the 2nd half, scoring all 8 of her points after half. Frannie Glynn also battled foul trouble but had a good night on the boards. Lauren Boell added a clutch 3 in the 1st half to stave off a Fillies run.
The win snaps a 5 game losing streak, giving Kuemper some confidence heading into the postseason. They improve to 5-16 overall and 3-8 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference. They will host SW Valley Saturday in the postseason.
Kuemper was pretty balanced with Aubrey Heuton leading the team with 18 points while grabbing 7 rebounds. Kora Thomsen added 12 points and 4 assists, Catherine Mayhall added 10 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Akuet Malek finished with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 6 blocks and Frannie Glynn contributed 7 rebounds.

The Tigers picked up a nice win on the road late in the season, playing well from start to finish. It was the defense early that shined for Carroll as the offense struggled to find a rhythm. Hannah Jorgensen jump started the offense, knocking down a some 3’s to push the Carroll lead to 19-10 at half. The Tigers defense held the Toreadors to 6 points in the 1st quarter and 4 points in the 2nd quarters. Carroll struggled most of the half, minus the 3’s from Jorgensen, scoring 8 in the 1st quarter and 11 in the 2nd quarter. The 2nd half went better for Carroll, scoring 16 points in both quarters.
Hannah Jorgensen led the Tigers with 16 points and 5 steals. Addison Klocke had a terrific game on both ends, finishing with 10 points. Madison Tunning and Camryn Schable each chipped in with 7 points.
The Tigers improve to 7-10 overall and 3-10 in the Raccoon River Conference.

The East Sac Raiders came back from a 40-25 deficit at halftime against Southeast Valley to eventually force overtime and win it with a pair of free throws Friday night.
The Raiders were caught off guard a bit from Southeast Valley as they prepared for Kenna Scott to score a lot, but not other players that made an impact. Scott did get the Jaguars off to a good start offensively, scoring 10 of their 16 first quarter points, while East Sac struggled a bit with turnovers. Their passing game was offset with overthrown passes and steals by Scott and Southeast Valley. While Jen Aschinger and Mary Bontrager both put up three pointers, the Jaguars got up 16-8 heading into the second quarter. East Sac ran a 2-3 zone defense in the first half that Southeast Valley was able to get past and score often underneath the basket. Madison Lane sank two three pointers, Alex Kitchen gave the Jaguars options underneath and scored six points, and Breck Mills was a surprise shooter as those three players led Southeast Valley to a 26 point second quarter and a 40-25 lead at halftime. East Sac did find much better success offensively in the second quarter with Makenna Steiger draining two three pointers and Bontrager picking up the intensity and putting down six points, but the Raiders’ defense didn’t have any answers for the Jaguar offensive attacks.
The start of the second half was a complete 180 for both teams. Southeast Valley struggled to get shots to fall, scoring a mere two points thanks to a Breck Mills bucket, while East Sac took the chance to make up for lost opportunities. Bontrager took the lead in the third quarter by putting down seven points to recharge the offense. East Sac was able to cut down the 15 point Jaguar lead down to a seven point 42-35 lead going into the fourth quarter. Just like the last quarter, Bontrager was the biggest offensive threat to Southeast Valley as she put her team on her back. In the fourth quarter alone, she tied the game at 42, 46, 52, and eventually got a bucket to go to tie the game one last time at 54 points with a pair of free throws. Scott for the Jaguars drove down the court with 6.4 second left to play and a chance to win it, but was unable to do so, forcing the game to overtime.
The overtime period was just as much a battle as the rest of the fourth quarter was. Bontrager started the offense with a free throw, giving East Sac the lead at 55-54 and a bucket to take back the lead at 57-56. Southeast Valley continued to attack the basket as well as they could, at one point they got Kitchen underneath for a bucket late in the period. The final nail in the coffin was Aleisha Thayer coming up clutch with a steal and while in the double bonus already, was fouled to bring her to the free throw line. She drained both to give East Sac a three point, 61-58 lead with mere seconds left. Southeast Valley drove down the court quickly, but were unable to drive home the three pointer to tie it again, giving East Sac a close victory on the road.
Individually for the Raiders, Bontrager led the team offensively with 29 points while Meredith Brown aided near the basket with 12 rebounds. Carly Fischer also had a solid night with 13 points, four rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Jen Ashcinger was aggressive on the defensive end, recording a team high four steals. The Raiders will improve to 5-14 overall on the season and 2-9 in the Twin Lakes Conference. They will close out the regular season with another conference game on Tuesday, February 8th against South Central Calhoun on the road.

Crusaders played well on the road, holding Boyer Valley under 30 points while picking up their 11th win of the season. They improved to 11-9 overall and 8-6 in the Rolling Valley. Six different players scored for the Crusaders with 2 in double figures and 2 more nearly in double figures.
Brynn Bass led the Crusaders with 16 points, making 3-3’s. Megan Gray dropped in a pair of 3’s, finishing with 10 points. Mirada McClellan continues to come on strong, scoring 9 points and Breeley Clayburg finished with 7 points.
The Crusaders host Glidden Ralston on Monday.

A slow start cost the Wildcats on Friday as they trailed 21-8 at the end of the 1st quarter. It was a tough night shooting for the Wildcats as the offense only scored in double figures in one quarter. They scored 10 points in the 3rd, out scoring the Cougars 10-7. The loss drops the Wildcats under 500, at 8-9 overall and 6-7 in the Rolling Valley Conference.
Paige Klocke continues her great run of games with a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds). Elizabeth Lloyd had a team high 5 rebounds and Vanessa Koehler finished with 3 steals.
The Wildcats head to Coon Rapids Bayard on Monday.

South Central Calhoun picked up their 15th win of the season, getting another great defensive effort. The Titans held the Cougars in single digits in three quarters, building a 31-21 lead at half. They extended the lead to 41-27 heading to the final stanza. The Titans hit 41.9% from the field but were only 5-19 from three. They struggled at the free throw line, going 7-18. The defense created 16 steals but the Titans turned the ball over 17 times. They did a nice job on the offensive glass with 15 rebounds.
Sayer Steig led three players in double figures with 15 points along with 7 rebounds, Riley Batta added 12 points, 4 steals and 7 rebounds and Kylee Schleisman added 11 points and 7 steals.
The Titans are 15-4 overall and 7-4 in the Twin Lakes Conference. They host Spencer on Saturday.
